Failure to align
I finished my 40 meter kit last night. When I powered it up (using 10 AA battery pack with 14.8 Volts) I was not able to align it. While calibrating I was able to maximize the out on 4.7 at 9 although it didnt change much as I turned the Resistor.? The problem is with the 3 parts that require the moving of the 3 blue potentiometers. They all show 0 (with a few bars which cant be balanced) which I suspect is due to a build failure.? Also the volume of the sidetone during this testing (and other times) is very low and raspy. I tried reducing the sidetone volume to 50% but then it was hardly audible. I put it in practice mode and the sidetone is still almost not audible.? Also the volume control potentiometer does not change anything. I did not see any obvious cold joints.? A few suspects: This was my second kit build. I had a solder glob come through on T1 that I cant tell if it shorted the smaller secondary above the primary.? I had some problems attaching the volume potentiometer. I'm still not sure if it is electrically connected.? Any help would be appreciated? Jared KE7OPT |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýJared-My build did the same thing with the exception of the volume being extremely loud. If I turn the gain off the lowest wetting, it is painfully loud.? I¡¯m watching your post for answers, as well.? Good luck, Walter NR3E

FYI thought I would give an update. I fixed my failure to align problem. Seems the problem was caused primarily by a poor connection to my headphone jack. The circuit would open then if i put enough pressure on the jack it would start working. ?The solution was to take pliers and grab the jack and resolder the headphone kack while pressing down. It resolved the probelm and it alligns.?
By the way, as per the instructions, 8.7 is before the volume control and will be ridiculously loud. 8.8-8.10 respind to the volume control R36. I was getting 0 on 8.8, 8.9 and 8.10. The resoldering resolved that.? 73 Jared #align |
