Re: Which Pi to use with QDX?
New PiZero2w as fast or faster than my?older 3b and for comparison I have 3b, 4, and new zero 2w. I would suggest you run Buster until Bulleye is fully vetted. I¡¯ve run both OS?and it took some doing to get Bulleye to work and even then I can¡¯t connect to my rigs at times, not sure why.?

That being said the Zero is quite the Pi given the fact Itnis only $15. I¡¯d suggest at that price that you should consider that after you?get it working w the qcx,?make it dedicated to run that?rig and your specific?application, not unless you love endless fiddling every time you make a change. I have WSJTx broad cast the logged contact on my home network and my computer logging program picks it up and logs it for me on my main log. Pretty cool.? Have fun! Johan-
Thank you for the reply, very helpful! I can't duplicate it, but the image problem seemed *possibly* intermittent once today. Right now the QDX is happily running solar-powered remote to the shack, I'll do more testing later. 73 Andy WM8Q |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýWell, as Hans pointed out, it doesn¡¯t make a lot of sense to have multiple QDXs since it¡¯s a multi-band rig.? Hi Evan- Thanks for the reply.... right after building it, my scan looked great. Today, not so. I also noticed that the image rejection looked like it went to more normal after I unplugged the USB and re-connected it.... but no power cycle. No explanation?for that (yet). 73 Andy WM8Q On Sun, Dec 19, 2021 at 2:12 PM Evan Hand <elhandjr@...> wrote: Hello Andy, |

Re: What is on your work bench ?
I've got 100 of TA7642 to test.? This is a replacement for the ZN-414 three-pin AM receiver chip from the 1970s, and Ive always wanted to play with them.? I got them for next to nothing from ebay and China.? I hope that at least some of them work ... and aren't re-marked floor-sweeping NPN trash-sistors.
So I've got a protoboard laid out and schematics on line, and I just need to build up a test jig.? I'll let you know how they turn out. 73 Jim N6OTQ |
Re: Which Pi to use with QDX?
Hi Jake,
Wish you luck in getting the QDX. I have run WSJT-X on my Raspberry Pi 4, and it is slower than my I5 laptop.? If possible I would suggest the Raspberry Pi 4. I have not tried the Pi Zero 2, but based on my Raspberry Pi 3 experience, I do not think it will have enough capability for FT8.? Since RTTY is not doing the deep decoding that is in the FT modes, I believe that any of the Raspberry Pi versions can do that. 73 Evan AC9TU |

What version should I get??RPi 4's, and the new 2's are unfortunately hard to obtain. If you can get one then FLDIGI, WSJTX and other well known stuff should work well with the horsepower that they provide. But since they may be a bit difficult to obtain then something like an RPi 3B+ will do perfectly well. I know because I own three of them, and run FLDIGI, WSJTX, QSSTV and others perfectly well on them. Anything less might be a struggle in my *opinion*. |
Re: Which Pi to use with QDX?
I tried running wsjt-x and JS8Call?on a Pi Zero 2 W and they seem to be working fine, much better than on an old Pi Zero. I need to do more testing, to properly connect it to a smartphone (vnc kinda works) and make a truly portable rig with QDX. Haven't tried fldigi yet.

Re: ATmega328 unavailability due to global semiconductor crisis
Hi Hans,
I had a letter from my gas supply company (for all my cooking and central heating) to say my average annual bill will be rising from ?996 pa to ?1995, due to a 250% increase in gas prices and demand. I had a good laugh at the minute increase of yours¡¯. I will be saving some of my alcohol costs used to dampen the pain towards my next qrplabs kit. Building them has almost as much calming effect, (except maybe at first power up!!). merry xmas to you and your fam. ken g4apb? |

What version should I get?? Does the new Pi Zero 2 W have enough horsepower to run FLDigi with acceptable performance?? How about other digital modes like JS8Call?
Thanks, Jake N1EDC |

Hello Andy,
I am not aware of an adjustment for image rejection, as that is in the software unlike in the QCX line of transceivers where it is analog.?? What is the Audio Sweep showing as far as image rejection?? When I do my scans with a dummy load connected I am seeing better than 60db rejection. I would also make sure you are on the latest version of firmware 1_02. One last point, I remember one of the changes of version 1 to version 2 of the hardware was adding bias resistors to the BPF switch to help with strong signal rejection.? No, I haven't tweaked it but I measured it. I found the unwanted sideband response 24kHz below dial frequency on 40m and it was about -50..-55dB below the wanted signal. Quite good in my opinion, considering that the rig has no means to adjust I/Q gain/phase balance in the hardware. Gain balance can be adjusted by trimming either R26 or R27. Phase balance is affected by the tolerances of C44 and C45 but I haven't paid much attention to how much it can contribute. However, R26/C44 and R27/C45 puts a -3dB lowpass corner at about 1.6kHz (1 / (2*pi*R*C)). This sounds a bit low to me since the IF is picked at 12kHz. The IC7 gain at 12kHz IF is about 17 or 18 dB down compared to the gain at zero beat/DC. Maybe this is a design tradeoff, to prevent the ADC from seeing to much strong signals. Anyway, the QDX RX still works great, much better than I ever expected :)

Re: What is on your work bench ?
Recently removed from bench... a 30m QCX+ and a 30m 50w amp, both just built and working first time.
Put onto the bench is a 20m 50w amp that didn't work first time. I put this aside and have now revisited it. It is now working after I spotted my mistake and corrected it. I was checking through the voltages and found I had a negative voltage on the drains of both IRF510's.... strange it should be a positive voltage. Put up the manual and checked T2 which has a bifilar winding and supplies the voltage to the drains. Yep !? I had put the leads in the wrong holes. Leads de-soldered and re-soldered into the correct holes and the 50w amp is working. That's good 'cos it will go with the 20m QCX+ I just ordered.??? Nothing on bench now apart from a couple of leads to make up so can play at operating instead of constructing???????? >:-) Reg???????????????? G4NFR |
