Re: QDX - Named Hamlib Support ? #qdx #cat

In MY case, it is because I have access to TS50 when we run field day or other events with a friend and use 'his TS50'.? Since the TS50 actually runs at 4800 baud and the RS-HFIQ runs at 19200 baud, I need 2 files.

But why?

It's just a matter of RTFM. Set it to Kenwood an all is fine, as the QDX control set is compatible.

It's been the same with the printer drivers in the old das of the last millenium. You know your printer dues "Proprinter" or "PCL Level X" and then you set it and all works. - Why blowing the software up when there is no genuine need?

I am not a software person, but I do not believe that HAMLIB specifies the rigs.? It provides a standardized means of sending the proper data to the rig for CAT control.
Digging through the HAMLIB folders on Linux and/or Windows, and there are no 'rig specific files' provided.
The software (lWSJT-x, FLDigi, etc.) specify the rig options/information that they have programmed to interact with HAMLIB, not the other way around.
In some cases, you can copy the Kenwood files (usually XML or INI) for the radio that works and create your own QDX file.? I have done this with FLDigi and the RS-HFIQ (HobbyPCB) radio that uses a Kenwood TS50s configuration with a different baud rate.

QCX mini Backlight Dimming

Hello,

First off, I want to say just how awesome the QCX Mini is!! It is an incredible rig by any standard and I am really enjoying using it!!

Now my question... Is there a way to change the brightness of the back light for the display? I just find it way to bright in low light conditions.? I have done a little digging and haven't found much other than a reference to R48 controls the brightness of the display (?).?

I am now looking at the schematics and the layouts but while I am, just looking for others experience with dimming the back light.

Thanks es 73,

Allowable input voltage for QCX+

I just got a BK300 power station, a battery back up unit by Xiegu. ?Output voltage is 15V. ?Is it safe to feed my QCX+ a diet of 15V? ?or do I have somewhat complicate the setup and use a buck converter to make it 13.8 and below? ?Many thanks!

Re: RPi 4 Stock

Anecdotal evidence received here is that just about every major
retailer like RS / Farnell etc are leaving their website up with
"out of stock / 999 week back order" messages just to cover their
arses.

Putting in an order has resulted in some surprising results, like getting
them in as a little as one week.

Not guaranteed, but it has been happening.

Re: Installing a TCXO in an already built unit

I did as Al suggested and butchered the crystal, then took half out at a time with a solder sucker and iron.? Fitting the TXCO afterwards was no issue.

Re: Installing a TCXO in an already built unit

The biggest problem might be getting the crystal removed, depending on your equipment. I've done a few retrofits, on QCXv1 and U3S' and I my desoldering equipment consists of solder-wick and my iron.

If the crystal is flush with the PCB it can be a struggle to remove without damaging the board's plated through pads. In one case I used a Dremel with a grinding wheel to cut the crystal in half. It wasn't pretty but it worked and I didn't damage much other than the crystal.

Inching it out by heating one pad at a time is doable, but you'll have to go slow.

Good luck!

Re: #QDX T1 heat; thermal design #qdx

Hi Dean,

If you are concerned about heat dissipation of the whole transceiver than I recommend you my solution.
First change the 5V linear regulator with a SMPS one in SIP3 capsule (look after my previous messages on the list). This will reduce a lot the heat.
Second, use the metal plate over the T1 as has been should in the previous picture.
With only these changes you will be on the safe side. I run QDX 24/24h for weeks without any issue and after half an hour of key down the whole case got stable to around 40C in about 28C room temperature.

PA MOSFETs are not a problem in terms of heat dissipation therefore they don't need more heat sink on top of the existing one.

Can't we use some thermal pads to dissipate heat to the aluminum case?
This helps for the heat generated by the transformer but what about the 4 Mosfets heat? Anyone come up with a better idea for these? I've seen something about someone suggesting using a U shaped piece of copper under the Mosfets but has anyone tried this yet? Does it do any good being in the enclosure unless it's attached to the case? Heat is generated by these Mosfets for sure.
