Re: looking for non-US keyer chip

Thank you to everyone who replied,

it took some time to follow up on the links and suggestions. It
would have suited me well to have found a good compromise keyer kit
with enclosure, a real time saver, something basic but with a
potentiometer speed adjustment. Fortunately, I think I have parts on
hand to build a version of the K3NG, I'd like one with sidetone output
to use as a practice oscillator for the bug and straight key. I'm a
SKCC member from years ago, but in need of practice before going on air
to torture other CW ops :-)

As good a device as it was, there are better ways to get there today.

It seems that W3PM has an Arduino sketch program for a W1EL Winkeyer Arduino clone. I don't know any more about it other than what I find on this web page:

Digikey is the way to go. Orders to a Canadian address of more than $100 CDN ship free ( Purolator or Fedex, can't remember which ), under $100 a flat fee of less than $10. I can order early on Monday and often have my package on Tuesday. All customs are taken care of and shipped from Winnipeg. Plus they have nearly anything and everything you might want - products from Sparkfun, Adafruti, Raspberry Pi, and so on;? I wouldn't surprise me on day to find QRP Labs stuff too ;)

Digikey - PayPal - inexpensive flat fee shipping or free - delivery to your day by courier and I suspect that is even true in Yellowknife and you know you are getting good prime parts and products.? As good as Amazon, maybe even better in some respects.

cheers, Graham ve3gtc ( near Ottawa )

Invitation to the AGCW QRP contest on March 09, 2024

Hello,
?
on behalf of the AGCW I hereby invite you to participate in this year's QRP contest.
The contest will take place on Saturday, 09.03.2024 from 14:00 to 20:00 UTC on the bands 80/40/20/15/10 meters.
?
The complete rules can be found here:
?
The long time period (6 hours) and the 10m-80m bands should allow every participant to?
find their way without stress and by using different propagation conditions,
to make QSOs and have fun.
?
QRO participants are also not excluded, in this class there are points for QSO's with VLP/QRP/MP.
?
The log upload (Cabrillo V2 or V3, with immediate header and log check) is done via the page:
?
It is also possible to upload images.
?
The Claimed Scores will be available immediately after the log submission deadline (March 31),
The publication of the Final Scores will also take place promptly after evaluation.
?
One point of criticism from some participants was the partial overlap with other contests.
I would therefore like to propose that the QRP contest be moved to the 4th Sat in March from 2025 (i.e. from next year).
?
?
Have fun and success with the contest and 73?
?
Tom

Re: #QMX #Finals...did I kill it? #qmx

Well, no, that was someone else's suggestion...which means it's probably right. I don't know my butt from my elbow on the circuitry, I just followed the instructions on assembling. Good luck sir!

Thank you very much for the help, I had 6w on 20,17e 15 mt and 5w on 12,11 and 10 mt, I tried to transmit with the qmx connected to an ammeter to measure the absorption, in TX it absorbs 190 mA and RX 90 mA, therefore 100 mA it absorbs when I transmit, I don't know what it could be, according to you I should replace the c510 and c 526 capacitors, I don't know.? Thanks anyway, I'll try PUTTY.? 72

Re: #QMX #Finals...did I kill it? #qmx

I think we have different root issues, Giuseppe...I do still have RF coming out, it's just a tiny fraction of what it was.

If you're running a windows OS, go to Start button, Run Program, and type 'putty', then hit run. It should have Putty already on your computer.? Then when it pulls up the window to determine which port you want to access, select 'Serial' then type COM* where * is the number for the comport your QMX registers when plugged into your computer.?

I'm not very good at explaining things, and I'm not a computer geek, sorry if this doesn't help.

Re: #QMX #Finals...did I kill it? #qmx

My QMX is reading <.5w on all channels in the Putty diagnostic.? I have a QRP power meter that outputs to my DVM and that showed the QMX at almost 4w on 20m!? Below is the schematic for the QRP power meter.? My cheapo SWR/Power meter shows about the same.? It's a rainy day here in Mobile, AL and I'm gonna reflow all the toroids and transformers.

good morning everyone, a similar problem happened to me with the high band qmx, after 10 hours of transmission and in wspr 10 mt, it went from 5W to 0w, the RF no longer comes out, I replaced the bs170 mosfets and nothing has changed , how can I access PUTTY to control the qmx, I don't know how to do it.? Thanks 73

Re: #qdxm QDX-M - new single-band version of QDX available #qdxm

Hi,
I made my mono a dual band QMX-M: 12m and 10m. I have set my QMX-M for High bands instead for Mono band so I got settings for all 5 bands from 20m to 10m in the setup menu.?
I suppose you could do the same also for the low band version and than adjust the parameters to your needs.

Mordan42,

Hans sells BS170s in his component area:

High insertion loss / early rolloff 6m LPF

I've assembled and tested the LPF kit from 160m to 6m. All the filters work as expected without adjustment except 6m.

The 6m filter starts to roll off very early and has a high loss in the 6m band (over 4db at 52Hz).?

I've checked for solder bridges and cold joints, continuity is good through the inductors and all the pads that should be connected. I can't find any shorts anywhere.

Any thoughts?

Re: #qdxm QDX-M - new single-band version of QDX available #qdxm

Hello Nate?
The QDX-M firmware displays only a single entry in the Band Configuration screen. The single entry is configured automatically by the firmware for the band you choose to build the kit for, controlled by your choice of jumper wires (install following the instructions in the assembly manual).?

If one is to build a QDX-M for a band lower than 20m how should they set up the jumpers? Or does it not matter, as you can change it all in the band configuration in the Terminal program?
(I'm thinking 160M, which I know the band name needs to be 160 to get the receiving set up properly.?

The firmware doesn't have defaults set up yet for all those other bands. So you would need to set up the band you want, manually, in the terminal.?

Re: QMX Band Pass Filter (and Band pass filters in general) question

Hans ,? Jonathan says? -? "I am not even sure if a single resonant band pass filter is the best option for my use.."

This has some ambiguity? - does it mean a single resonant cct, one per band. ? That's marginal . SW Labs used that type of cct as the input to a mixer in many of their? ccts? (Dave Benson) years ago. It worked ok but was not state of the art. It only worked because it was backed by a Ladder filter further down the Rx chain. This sort of design only works with? a transformer input LC coil? ie it needs impedance transformation from the antenna? and it also needs to be decoupled from the forcing function as per all SHM resonators.

OR?
Does it mean a single filter with multiple resonant? band pass elements which sounds like a technical contradiction but is similar to your two band? LPF designs.?

FYI I sent him an old Arrl? design with three off? diode switched dual tuned? BPFs and a? bipolar? wideband booster at the far end.? THere is in fact a fault with the schematic x 3? which I pointed out to Jonathon.? If you want? Simple, buildable with no prototypes and decent performance, this is hard to beat.

Re: #QMX #Finals...did I kill it? #qmx

Mordan42,

How is it doing on receive?

Check C510 and C526 to see if they are damaged. If either have cracked or have been overstressed by high RF current, output power will be very low.
