Measured U3S power on 2200-160m
I am pleased to report I finally found time to "finish" my U3S build. Well, almost. I haven't built the OCXO yet. Truth is, I probably don't need it anyway since I have the QLG1 and will only be using

Re: Power output on 20 meters.
Sound about right for an average of 1.3db, plus minus individual measurement error / construction technique on the coils. ( close wound or spaced). Just think, a 3.5w rig might really be? a 5w one

QCX nulling
Hi all, What sort of null readings are people getting with their QCX? I read somewhere that nulling to zero is possible. I get nowhere near this (unless the vol pot is on zero). All but 8.7 BPF

Re: Power output on 20 meters.
HI Andy Good points made. On 20M with turns on L1, 2 & 3 as manual using original toroids; and using test feature 9.2 the output was 2.2 watts, with 1 turn off each it was 2.8 watts. Suggestion ~

Re: Toroid winding numbers and measurements
Great news! I took off L4 and rewound, as I had reduced windings to just 8 (!) thinking it was part of the LPF of L1-L3 and trying to make the QCX work on both 30m and 20m... I put back 4 turns,

Re: Power output on 20 meters.
I agree with Hans. I think the LPF values are derived from the W3NQN designs for standard value components, and are also reproduced by the GQRP CLub literature. I found that the design was just a

Re: Power output on 20 meters.
Hi Hans Thanks for the reply and I did take note of your comments in the manual about accuracy. The problem is that there appears to be a problem on the 20M version and we need some guidance about

Re: Power output on 20 meters.
Ben, Joel, all If the power output is less than expected, and if other test equipment is not available, then I suggest removing a turn or two from each of the toroids, similar to what Karsten DL3HRT

Re: Power output on 20 meters.
Hi Mike The 9.2 RF Power meter is not bad, but not fantastically accurate. But it is important to realise, this measurement is an RF detector, it will only display a correct power reading for a

Re: Power output on 20 meters.
Hi All Results on 20M using 9.2 RF test feature...... Output from L1 with 50 ohm load on output = 2.2 watts approx Input to L3 with 50 ohm load on output = 5.2 watts approx Input voltage on load

Re: 11. Potentiometer tuning for the Ultimate3
Hi Hans, I have been analysing this problem by setting my U3S to transmit the Analogue input channels 0-4 & 8 using the MESSAGE menu and TX CW mode. An undocumented feature I found is the actual

Folks, I Just want to shed light on the effect of spreading or squeezing windings on inductance of toroids. The Micrometals app note entitled "Iron Powder Cores for High Q Inductors" states: "Another

Lee Are you you using a standard, does either of these meters give the correct result? "More costly" does not necessarily mean more accurate. Paul says get an Ebay meter, can anyone recommend one
