Re: QDX Firmware Request: LED brightness

Al, I had the same experience with the Nino TNC except it used multiple LEDs of different colors and at night it lit up my house like a disco.? Even worse, the LEDs used a resistor array so I couldn't easily solder in higher value resistors. In the end I added a switch on the array's ground to turn it off if I wasn't troubleshooting the radio's link.?

If Hans doesn't get around to it, add a potentiometer or resistor in series to your LED.

Joshua?

Hello Al

Why not! Sounds fun! I will take care of it with some firmware changes and a few hardware ones in the next PCB revision.?

Re: QDX Firmware Request: LED brightness

I have some really cheap LEDs from China. I think they were $3 for 100pcs in assorted colors including shipping. They are really dim. I just swapped one in. You could also lift a leg and add a resistor.

My QDX firmware is v1_05, and the board is PCB Rev 4.? AFAIK this is all the latest, I ordered it in late October and received it from Hans the beginning of November.? I built it on Nov 5.

About the FSK issue, I would like to try repeating the tests using a longer QDX frequency measurement period than the default 100 per second.? With the WSPR symbol rate being so slow there's no reason that it couldn't measure more audio cycles and get a more precise frequency measurement.? That way we could tell if the error is due to the measurement, or to the S15351 divider setting algorithm.? (Although I believe that Hans already knows which is the case, likely the divider setting).? Certainly the default frequency measurement method *should* provide far better accuracy that my measurements were showing.

Re: QDX for 40-10m - Should I wait? #qdx

Hi Eric

How do you mean, wrong addressee??

We had over 100 U4Bs ordered since Friday. All of them have to be programmed (bootloader and application firmware), tested and calibrated. Since we had a staff change since the last batch (the person who did it last time isn't here now) I have to get another colleague to do it. And we are one person down this week as one of the team is on holiday. So it's taking a few days to get the 100+ U4Bs ready and shipped out.?

QDX Firmware Request: LED brightness

Hans,

Something to put on the list of "wouldn't it be nice" items for future releases of firmware.
?
Yes, it's very eye catching in it's present state. But, it would be nice to be able to tone it down some. Maybe something like the backlighting feature in U3S with stepped decreases, but never totally out.?

Thanking you in advance!

Re: My QDX and Hardrock-50 Experience

Thanks, Bruce. On my setup, I run the QDX at 7.5V and the HR-50 at 11.5V to get the bands I'm on (40 - 15m) all around 30 - 35 Watts.

Re: QDX, JTDX audio levels

Every time I go to try to install and test JTDX I seem to get frustrated, so I haven't gone there yet.

I know what you mean about "normal," I've had the same experience with WJST and having to boost levels in QDX, especially 20m.?

For now I'm just leaving QDX levels about at the default and ignoring JTDX's level meter.?

There are a lot of little adjustments to make in JTDX. I've sort of made it act similar to WSJT. I rely on JTAlert a lot and it seems to be working very well with JTDX.?

Re: QDX, JTDX audio levels

That sounds like a normal change to me.? Remember, each "band" is a different audio level setting.? The ambient activity will raise the overall level in my experience, so if a lot of QRM/N and a lot of user activity, that meter will rise.

I cannot comment on JTDX, only WSJT and FLDIGI which behave as "normal" in my world at around a setting of 70-75 in QDX band configs.? I usually target FLDIGI's diamond to just turn green as the base audio level.? That seems to work fine for WSJT and by extension JS8Call.

MItch,?
I just now tried that, going from 54 to 40 on 80 meters in QDX. After rebooting there's really not much change. I do notice some change in the waterfall background level. It goes to black and not light blue; signals are not as distinct.?

As a test I switched frequencies in JTDX to 3.585 MHz, a frequency with absolutely no activity on it and now the Rx Level showing in JTDX is ~120. That seems crazy.

Thanks for the suggestion!
