For a receive only situation many would say the mag loop would be your best bet. With your application being receive-only much of the concerns raised really effect transmitting and matching.

Vince, You are not receiving WSPR signals. What do you see if you remove the audio lead from the RX? Do not take it out at the computer end, that can confuse if Windows thinks there is nothing there.
