Re: Boxing the QCX

Martin,
I visited your facebook page to have a look...
The use of graph paper patterns for the initial layout and adjustments, and building a full-size wooden mock-up of the case to ensure the fit prior to cutting any metal are excellent techniques!
The "Midnight Blue" anodizing of the case looks especially good with the light leakage via the plexiglass (perspex) acting as an edge-light conductor of the display's blue backlight.
Great work!

Re: qcx problem

unfortunately the display is illuminated but the welcome message of the version does not arrive the bf either I turn off, I turn on , still nothing, I act on r27 the contraste works with these white rectangles,
Joel,

Starting at Section 6 of the manual:-
How far do you get? I guess 6.3 top row of blocks?
This shows that IC2 is not controlling the LCD.
If all voltages are correct on IC2 then maybe the 20MHz crystal is not oscillating.
Use a RX with a short antenna wire to find a 20MHz signal from the QCX.
Is it there?

[The Si5351 is not involved in these first tests.
]

so I decide to control all the tensions as the manual
everything is ok except clk1 and clk2 0vlts I control c2, d2, regulator e/s ok, I think that si5351 is hs why ????, have you an idea, I am disappointed because I invested a lot of time in the assembly of the box, bought a lipo battery that I wait, in short I have since September and it does not still not working, I ordered the firmware 1000e, waiting too, if I can change the si5351, because I think it is the failure, tell me if I can do this operation, thank you for your response, cordially joel f6cht.

Now this is what I've been expecting to see and makes complete sense.

Well done!

Re: Boxing the QCX

Great job Martin.? Look forward to seeing it in the flesh.

(Like the morse paddle :-)? - for others that may be interested this was printed from?

Martin's clever modification was to use foam rubber instead of the spring for tension)

Hi Dave - glad you were able to use the STEP files.? Could you let me see the changes you made (STEP would be great) in case this would help others.? I'd also love to see a photo.? Perhaps you could document a 'I made one'? on Thingiverse.

Re: QCX Off Board Mounting wire

Wes,

I used multi-colored ribbon cable, splitting it up as required, mounting the LCD and controls off board with liberal lengths of cable. All the cables run to DIP pins on the board -- I chopped up female headers to make plugs.? ?I ran the RF out through RG316 (likely a waste of time and effort since 3 or 4 inches of twisted pair at 7 MHz won't change anything) and the power in through heavier red/black wire.?

I found no issues with mounting controls off-board.

?Good luck with your project.

Re: LM317LZ Regulator Circuit on ProgRock

Robin,
Just in the process of building up a progrock and getting similar numbers. ?
I trust my TEK DVM. ?Also measured a fresh AA cell and it was 1.595 so think the meter is good. ?
The kit is using non precision resistors. I put a 1% 1K in and brought 5V down to 5.1 something. ?I will see what other precision resistors I have in junk bin. ?Hardly ever do thruhole these days so lots of dust will be moved. ?
How is yours working with slightly outside the data sheet voltages. ?I suspect it’s just fine. ?

QCX CW TRANSCEIVER problem.

QCX CW TRANSCEIVER. When I turn on the transceiver I do not receive anything, but I only listen to a sound like a self-oscillation. I attach the audio file. Some idea ? Thank you.

Yes, Jan ... it was the same tracking VK3YT Picospace balloons across the Pacific over the last 2-3 years.? Several stations receiving out to 2000km, then a few to 3000km, then just me for another 5000km or so.? After two F2 hops (8-10,000km) it gets difficult to receive a 10-20mW signal unless the balloon is near our antipode.? Check the WSPRnet.org results for VE3KCL (U3B-12) and K4JCW (HIRFW-6) over the past 2 weeks and see that the same applies in the Northern hemisphere with just a few stations receiving past 3000km.

We have a very quiet countryside location on a hill top with negative horizon to the east, and the RX is on a 4 WL long Beverage RX antenna pointed at the location of BB01.? The difference between a Beverage antenna and any other wire antenna I tried was like night and day. The closest performing RX antenna was the Flag antenna ... it was only about 4dB worse.

I note that you are the only one receiving BB01.
I know that you have extremly sensitive ears.
But is this what you would expect ?

Re: DVM/RF detector header Question

HI Barry,

That is very low indeed. Please double check the solder joins in the LPF, especially on the toroids, make sure the enamel coating is removed.
Also check for continuity between the PA mosfet output to the antenna connector...

My 40m on 13.6v gives me 5.2w.
