Re: progrock on power up
To followup, I found the issue with the progrock blinking three times rather than four: a sagging 9V battery I was using for testing. I plugged it into 13.5V from my Astron and it operates as it should. Thanks to Alan and Mike for their input. Best, Chris, VO1CKD ?

Alan, I though of taking a video and slowing it down but...that just takes time away from building more radios. :) I'll check the synth on my home receiver tonight. So long as it works :) Best, Chris.

Re: QCX 20m LPF investigation
Fabrizio Menghini
Hi Bob,
For my qcx20meter I measure with a precision lcr meter every toroids. The L4 for 20 meters on red amidon 10 turn is over the 0.40microH. I found 9 turns is pefect. After initial calibration I measured rhe output power on 14.020 with a scope and a diamon sx600: for 13.8V there is 3 Watt on 50Ohm. The lowpass filter on yellow toroid turns are right on my lcr meter. Hope help you. Best Regards Fabrizio |
Re: QCX 3D print
Dear Group - added new version of the case to??
This version is to G8MXV's specification and includes more room for the lipo, an on/off switch, battery supports to stop the lipo wandering and no microswitch or DC apertures.? This version has been printed and assembled.? Everything fits!?? Details in zip file on Thingiverse plus photo in main file section. 73, Dave, G8XUL |
Re: Snap, Crackle, Pop!
I imagine you have tested this with another rig, as I had a similar sound on my 30m QCX when I had a bad connection between feedpoint and doublet dipole. So I imagine you must have eliminated it being something other than the QCX itself. Hopefully someone else listening to the recording may have an idea what could be causing that.

Re: QCX Troubleshooting - Please can you help?
Can you check and let me know what voltage you are getting at Pins 9 and 10 please? I get no DC voltage at all, and no 20mhz signal either.Julian I've avoided jumping in because I cannot really help. But it seems to me if the display is showing something the 20MHz must be working. I've no idea about voltages but a scope put on the crystal pins will most likely stop oscillation. The way to confirm is with a RX not connected to the device. 73 Alan G4ZFQ |
Re: QCX modification for 40 Meters
The idea is to use two SPDT toggle switches instead of the rotary encoder and emulating the behaviour, the signals is described here: or here You will get the feel for the pattern you need to make with the switches after some practice (:2017-12-08 14:50 GMT+01:00 Joel Fournol <f6cht@...>:

Re: qcx gps interface issue
The GPS data lines are the same as the CW/Keyer signals.
So be aware the QCX starts transmitting.? (No open antenna , use a dummy load.) I found every first transmision in wspr/beacon mode the BS170 became very hot. High current about over 500 mA but NO HF output. Blowed 3 BS170. Now on a heathsink no problem. |
qcx gps interface issue
If I plug in the gps it is powered, but something in the qcx is overheated. So I quickly unplug it.? gps is working fine still with 3S.? no shorts to ground on the pins. Getting 3.3k ohms between plus and minus power connection to the GPS. I am not readily seeing much in this circuit, I think I will check the regulator area.?
I did move the inductor as suggested, my strange behavior with the vfo resolution seems to be cured. Everything but gps interface is okay in qcx. Curt |
Re: FT8 for U3?
David Bowman
Hi Ernie.
Sorry, is this still the FT-8 discussion we were having? I don't have a beacon 3a.? Re: FT8 for U3? From: Ernie Hollingsworth Date: Sun, 10 Dec 2017 06:05:47 PST Is your beacon day or night? I'll look for you.

Re: New Year's Eve Operation (how to configure your U3S)
开云体育Hi TrueBlue (that’s an unusual name),Thanks - I enjoy getting all these modes running in the same frame. It’s entirely dependant on band as to the number of spots. ?At the moment my U3S is transmitting on 10m and has been there since early this year - There are some grabbers operating on 10m and the Knights QRSS group are reasonably active with a lot of discussion this year about meteor scatter where pings have been seen from a few stations. ? It’s not all about the instant gratification of WSPR :-) I don’t expect many spots of JT9 on 10m but it’s seen fairly often on CW. ?I tried the TEST call but I seem to remember there was an issue with some feeders to the RBN totally ignoring the transmission when I used that and others reporting it multiple times. ?I was advised to use CQ as well as TEST (hence CQ G6NHU G6NHU TEST) and that works well. Speaking to Hans at Newark, he did say that he’s managed to get RTTY in the firmware but it still needs debugging. ?I have no idea how close that is on the U3S but I’m in no hurry. ?And yes, RTTY is still used. ?I’ve had over 1,500 Qs this year using RTTY and that’s not just contest Qs. 73 Keith G6NHU
