Re: Hi SWR, sometimes
Ludwig,
?
That is very interesting. I will check again on the frequency. Maybe that explains this:
?
Working POTA around 7.060. I complete the SWR tune function and transmit with 1.5 no problem. I then move up to 7.118 and SWR protection kicks in. I clear the S and retune to get a 1.5 reading again. Try to transmit on 7.118 and protection kicks in. I retry the procedure again and the protection kicks in and no transmit. I gave up and went back down to 7.060 and transmit no problem.
?
So what you are suggesting is that in the SWR tune I should turn the encoder to the frequency I want?

Re: QDX Low Receive but Xmit fine

The version of QDX is 1.4 John, I'm not sure what this means? A Rev 4 PCB, or the 1.04 firmware?
Either way, you need to use a terminal program to go into the QDX settings and change the audio levels there if everything else is maxed out on your computer audio. You can also have the QDX perform self-tests there to make sure each band is receiving OK. Not sure on Macs if Putty is available, or if you need some other program to do this. ?
I'd also recommend using the radio as a "QDX" in WJST-X....that's been updated in the last few years.

3 cell lipo battery, how to use it anyway
By doing this you recharge the pack with storage function and will have only 3.85 volts per cell at the end of the charge for a total of 11.55 volts.?
Another my hobby is rc airmodell and normally put in storage mode the cell packs when finished the flights. I use charter M6 by toolkitrc.?

I hear this claim repeated from time to time. I wonder what the basis for the claim is. Did Edison write a patent, or is there some other documentation?

Re: New QMX+ Calibration victim
I bought this device from Amazon:
DollaTek ZK-4KX CNC DC Buck Boost Converter CC CV 0.5-30V 4A Power Module Adjustable Regulated?
Cost ?12.99 in the UK, It's probably better to search for that description in your local Amazon account, or Google it.
?
It seems to be able to take a variety of DC power supplies and generate? what I specify.? Gives me the voltage and current I specify.? I bought this over a year ago and it's still working.
I connect everything using power pole connectors so it's easy for me to mix and match power supplies, converters, and connectors.
?
There's a thread "Why I think QMX Calibration Kills PA" which suggests that the reason why people are reporting failures after SSB calibration is that the SSB calibration process doesn't do any envelope shaping when making test transmissions and the rapid power changes could cause PA failures.? Hans responds here /g/QRPLabs/message/144737 acknowledging this could be a problem and promising that a future firmware version will have envelope shaping on SSB calibration.
?
I'm not going to run SSB calibration until this is implemented, even though I have done so with no issues, something that may be because I always run with a current limited power supply.

Re: QLG2 GPS
The GPS board will fit nicely inside the standard QCX case although you will need to do some careful measuring and drilling. ?
You also need to add a switch on the two data lines (low current gold contacts ideally) as the gps signal data interferes with key/paddle signals in some modes? |
Re: QMX won't start after firmware update to 1_02_000
What he was trying to describe is this:?
Some QMX units, immediately after installing the new firmware, fail to automatically restart into normal operations mode.? They remain unresponsive until you disconnect the power cord, which powers them down out of firmware update mode.? Then you reconnect the power cord and turn them on, they wake up in normal mode, and all is well.
It sounds like you have done this, so that was not your problem.
?
This is certainly not a common issue.? I have not heard of it happening before.
Did the QMX operate at all after the firmware update??
What did you mean when you wrote in your previous post "- With new upgrade all HW tests worked fine"?
Were you able to run HW tests before it failed?
?
I'm sure you've checked, but is it possible that your QMX is somehow still in firmware update mode?? If you connect it to the computer with USB cable, does the QMX drive come up again? maybe after pressing the power-on button?? If so, copy in the firmware file again, and see if it works.? Don't try to delete existing files on QMX drive, just copy/paste the new file in.
?
The next thing to do to help understand the problem is to measure how much current draw the QMX has in these three situations:
1) QMX initially plugged into power supply (before power-on switch pushed)
2) While pressing power-on button
3) After releasing power-on button
