Re: #qmx #Firmware release 1_02_000 #qmx #firmware

Starting from a non-SSB version, I just installed 1_02_000 on my QMX and ran the SSB Calibration process directly from the QMX (no PC).?
The display shows "10m L SYNC, Optimum 46", and has FROZEN there.? I do not know what to do next.? Please advise.
I watched one recent video on this calibration process, but they didn't get stuck here.

Re: Scripting language?

Jerry, could you use a microcontroller to speak CAT to the QMX and read the band info that way?

Re: QMX+ Build - No Power on Diagnostics screen (pressing T) #power #test #troubleshooting

I have the dummyload from QRP Labs, which has a + and - for measuring, but I still get 0.0 volts. (checked AC and DC, just in case...)

Re: New QMX+ Calibration victim

Update:

Visual inspection showed that Q108 was broken as it had its case cracked. Cannibalized another unbuilt QMX+ board and replaced it. Measured and found D108 shorted and replaced it as well. Now with PSU set to 7.5v and current protection set to 350mA I dared to test to start the QMX again. Now it starts up but it¡¯s quickly visible that some voltages are not right as the contrast is way to high on the LCD. So I quickly unplugged the power. (For a brief part of a second the display shows the startup information correctly before turning black probably as the 5v? rises to too high. Maybe the SMPS regulation isn¡¯t working)

Open and greatful for further ideas on how to continue troubleshooting ?

Re: QMX+ Build - No Power on Diagnostics screen (pressing T) #power #test #troubleshooting

So you might have a problem in the power sensing area (T507 I think).

Do you have a dummy load, or any other way of measuring output externally?

Re: Ultimate 3S Issue

Based on 27MHz I¡¯m assuming you are using a crystal reference synthesiser rather than the TCXO
?
its possible the crystal or 5351 is failing but try setting the frequency back to nominal and see if it transmits on frequency OK and cleanly ?
?
Also try another GPS antenna if you have one and see if the GPS attribute ?display looks good?
?
Beyond that the cheapest fix that also an upgrade is a new synthesiser board with TCXO option as an easy-build ?plug in swap ?(just needs the freq changed to 25MHz in the Ref freq menu?

QMX+ Case - Screws #QMXplus

Can anyone kindly inform about the M3 black screws used in the QMX+ case ? what'is lenght ? 6 mm 8 mm ?
This afternoon after assembly and performed all tests i was presented with 8 black screws that dit not fit, they are M2.5.
In the assembly manual is stated they are M3 but no info about lenght.
Ahh, by the way the QMX+ worked first power on but with a garbled screen.
Had to disassembly the front panel and retouch the LCD pins. Its a big PITA to properly solder them by the manual.
Now everything is ok.

Did you install the jumper behind the BNC (JP501 I think)?

I checked several patch cords (between radio and dummyload) and they all are working correctly, but still no power.

What should I be checking now? Is there a test procedure for this specific issue? There has to be others who have encountered this before...

Hi Eric - I would like one of your $15 assembled/tested mics in orange (or any available bright color) for my QMX. - How do you like your payment?

Hi Ken

Using SSB without calibration is perfectly acceptable, the audio is still good. Calibration just makes it even better.

Re: How to use ProgRock2 in an oscillator?

Hi Steve,
If you look in the Kenwood Hybrids, Kenwood TS-940, or Icom Classic fora, you may find where I've posted circuits for replacing a reference oscillator with a TCXO.? You can use the ProgRock2 instead of the TCXO.? Another approach is to couple the ProgRock2's output into the crystal oscillator's base, gate, or grid, causing it to lock to the ProgRock2's frequency.? Just a few pF capacitance is usually enough.? With the ProgRock2 unpowered, adjust the crystal oscillator's trimmer so that it's close to the ProgRock2's output frequency.? When you turn the ProgRock2 on, it should lock to it.? This should eliminate the concern about the waveform.? But usually the circuit you're feeding from the crystal oscillator will filter out the harmonics.? Can you be more specific about the Colpitts oscillator you're working with?
Cheers

Ultimate 3S Issue

It has been a while since I've used my Ultimate 3S for WSPR and it has worked flawlessly in the past. However now, no signal seems to be transmitting and the oscillator calibration with GPS keeps increasing the frequency constantly. It is now up to 27,011,491 and climbing. This can't be right. Any ideas of what the problem may be??
