#QMX+ ongewenste eeprom initialisatie

Secondly, I have added a configuration in the System Config screen (accessible on both the terminal and the LCD). This is a "list" selection so use the left/right arrows to select a value in the terminal, or the Tune rotary encoder to select a value when adjusting it on the LCD. The possible values are:
  1. USB Audio sound card and ONE serial port, as previous configurations
  2. USB Audio sound card plus TWO serial ports
  3. USB Audio sound card plus THREE serial ports and potential future USB Flash drive
Only the third of these makes use of ghost USB endpoints.?

Note that I also discovered an error in the USB Hub Device Configuration Descriptor in the area of the potential future USB Flash drive. On my Linux system it just worked anyway, but it's possible different Operating Systems are more fussy. Re: QCX-mini LCD top row is blocks, bottom row is blank

Thanks Ron, I re-worked a few solder joints and was able to bring things to life. Performed alignment and places in case, but now have a couple of other issues to troubleshoot. 1) on power-up, LCD looks normal but text slowly dims to nothing and no functions work. Power-cycling right away brings up LCD with no text and no function. Waiting a few minutes to power-cycle brings up LCD with text which then dies away as before. 2) I performed a factory reset to see if that would help but now on power-up I have a LCD that is not lit but has text 'use original ic' and no functions work. I can see this is going to be a journey!

#qcxmini BPF Alignment Issues #qcxmini

I just finished my first kit, the QCX Mini. I have very little experience with soldering, other than a few arduinos and such, so I'm pretty new to this.
?
When I go through the alignment steps I find that the BPF readings are very low, around 3-4 max. I've checked continuity on T1 legs and they appear to be fine between each pair. I did heat them up again just to make sure the enamel was burned off. A strange behavior I have found is that if I apply a little pressure on the display board towards the top edge of the screen or bottom edge, as indicated by the circled areas in the picture, the scale goes up to 8ish and is adjustable. I tried a hack to test if this made a real difference and wedged a little bit of paper in the spot, while in the case, to see if it held true but it didn't. Before I desolder and rewind T1 is there something else I should check? I do not own an oscilloscope, only a DVM.

Laptop computers often have power saving features that
can be configured to turn off some of the power hogs when
they are left unused for a while.

You might look at your power saving settings, and change them
to leave your USB and com ports turned on.

Last Sunday I made a couple of SSB contacts on 20m with my handheld QMX and the EFHW antenna, using the inernal mic only.
?
I also joined the net on 14.300MHz to ask how I sound over SSB. I got 58 from CA to WA and the net control said my audio was good. So I guess the internal mic still works okay as it is, without an external mic?

Re: QMX+ shutdown problem #qmx #QMXplus #shutdown

Ok, replaced Q102 and D109 and at least the symptoms are different, but still not working.
Quick synopsis here and I'll start documenting the waveforms and voltage levels.
Replaced Q102 and D109 (Q111 drain still lifted) and tried powering on. I could see a nice waveform out of Q108 and Q109 now, but they would drop after 2-3 seconds. I think the processor gave up on 3V3 and dropped LIN REG EN at that point. Since Q102 was no longer a shorted device, everything shut down.
Got brave and reconnected Q111.?
Now I still get the nice waveforms, but LIN REG EN stays on probably because ADC 3V3 is sitting at 1.4v. And the source of Q111 is 3.8 so we still have that mismatch. ADC 3V3 should be reading 1.9 based on 3.8 at Q111.
It is drawing about 210ma at 7v.
So, with that I'll go into full measurement mode. Unless someone says "oh, well in that case it has to be x".
?
Again, thanks for all of your insights and to Hans and additional contributors to the excellent wiki collection.?

jeremy, you should check for continuity between IC2 Pins 2,3,4,5,6 & 27 to LCD pins 11,12,13,14,6 & 4 respectively.? If any are missing check soldering on the LCD, IC2 socket, and pins and sockets on the connectors between the main board and the display board. Those board interconnections are where most of the soldering issues occur. Good luck ... Ron

Re: QMX SSB : Does a Baofeng Micro works ok ?

Angelo,
There are a number of different factories that produce microphones for Baofengs.? I have bought 6 of them so far and everyone is made differently. I had one that didn't work at all on the QMX, so I got the mic element from DigiKey that Hans mentioned on the QRP Labs website, and replaced the one in the Baofeng mic with it. I found that another Baofeng mic worked just as well as that mic element from DigiKey. I did have to cut off the connector and rewire a new stereo connector, so the ring to ground is the mic connection, and the tip to ground is the PTT connection. I just isolated the speaker wires and I'm not using the speaker. It is only 8 ohms anyway and the QMXs work better with at least 32 ohms.

Re: QMX: C107 burned

Since I still had a 5V SMPS board available, I decided to try installing it in the QMX along with the 3.3V SMPS board and turn it on. At first, I only used 7V and limited the current to 200mA. And it's hard to believe, but the QMX works.
This means that the 3.3V SMPS board is not defective despite the burn spot visible in the photo. I was able to scratch it off. So it's probably just a piece of the capacitor that burned and fly off.
Then I tried it with 9V and a limit of 1.2A. That also worked without any problems. The diagnostics screen displayed the following:
?
?
I can't see anything unusual when transmiting either:
?
?
The current consumption was 140mA when receiving and 850mA when transmitting.
How do I proceed now? The QMX works, although the resistors on the mainboard without SMPS, control and display board indicate a fault:

PWR_HOLD to GND: 242 ohms
ADC_3V3 to GND: 9.5 kOhm
VDD to GND: 461 Ohm
?
I could explain VDD by saying that there is a solder bridge somewhere that I cannot find. But PWR_HOLD and ADC_3V3 only lead to the MCU. Can anyone explain this?
