Lloyd, With power off, check the resistance from TX to ground. Is it low/shorted? Check for continuity from the MCU TX pin to the '08 TX inputs. Is the solder joint at the MCU pin good? JZ

Please say what do you mean by "confused state". What are you referring to as the "normal" initial screen? It isn't clear to me what you are experiencing that is a problem. To do a hardware reset
