Re: is there anyone who would be willing to replace the si5153a synthesizer chip on my qcx?

add excessive solder on both sides of the ICThe use of a low-melting point alloy such as ChipQuik will be a tremendous help in getting the solder to flow without excessive heat.? This is the process we used on hi-rel spacecraft boards as it was the safest for the boards, the ICs were sent for failure analysis or scrapped so trying to keep them intact was pointless. Good stereo magnification is immensely helpful. 73, Don N2VGU |

Hi Randy,
Are you starting transmission by pressing the right encoder or the left (select) button?? The QMX works the same as the QCX series in that the left button repeats but pressing the encoder only sends once. I have experienced a lot of glitchiness with the QMX messages.? In my case it appears that most of the problems were due to corrupted message configurations from editing in the terminal with my backspace key set incorrectly.? However, after a factory reset and configuring the messages using the CW decoder it does appear that repeat works properly.? Firmware 1_00_009. Jonathan KN6LFB |

I use one of those inline USB voltage/current meters to check mine and see what the power bank voltage looks like under load.? I will need to measure how much resistance it uses for its current measurement someday but the voltage drop seems minimal.... 73, Don N2VGU |
Re: QDX - Stuck in transmit mode when using VOX even after disconnecting PC.
I know it may not seem like an RFI problem, but it still feels like an RFI problem from the given symptoms.

One of the problems that can happen is that the RF doesn’t make it out of the radio, but reflects internally, and causes things to get wedged. I would check the entire output path from the final transistors through the output transformer and the low pass filters, including the BNC connector and whatever cables and adapters you use to connect to your dummy load, and even the dummy load itself. Good luck! Intermittents are the worst! 73, Willie N1JBJ On Aug 27, 2023, at 1:53 AM, jlloydham <captlloyd@...> wrote: |

Hi Billy
QMX is USB-2. Just uses a USB-C connector to carry it. So a USB-2 and adapters is fine.

Re: #qmx video: 52 tips for building your QMX successfully

Here we found it easier to achieve precise alignment of the SMPS boards if the spacer nuts are NOT drilled out. The reason is that drilling them out, or shoving a soldering iron through them, either way distorts the shape of the nut so it no longer sits precisely. This is based on experience trying both ways here. So I will update the manual to remove the bit about drilling out nuts.? 73 Hans G0UPL On Sun, Aug 27, 2023, 5:02 PM N1EDC <dragonfanatic90@...> wrote: So to clarify - The manual at Rev H currently says to burn or drill out the center of the spacer nuts on the power board - That is no longer recommended according to the video? |

Hans says it’s best to do it as he shows in the video to keep the boards properly oriented. Looked really easy to do the way he demonstrated. It’s an ongoing process of finding the best solutions and updating the manual.? Message repeat doesn't
#qmx
Perhaps this has already been reported, but in the Message menu, setting Interval to 7 seconds, and repeat to 3 only sends the message once (Message 1, if it matters). 73, Randy, KS4L |
Re: QMX 9 volt current consumption and a 9 v upconverter?
That’s my plan too. Got the QMX but upconverter is on the slow boat from China… PD seems risky. Another post about the PD negotiation and starting on 5V then a fast increase kills the QMX. Should be OK if plug the QMX in last. Any way gonna test the upconverter cable too first before use.

A Great Source for Power Supplies (FREE)
I recently had a problem with my home internet. I noticed that when he replaced the modem or modem/router, he reused the existing power supply (wall wart). I asked him if I could have the unused power supply. It was a 12v 1A regulated supply (not class 2's which are unregulated). He said that I certainly could have it and, in fact, he literally had a bucket full of them in the truck. He happily gave me a dozen of them. Most were 12volts but there were several different amperages. He said they just throw them in the trash at the end of their day because they don't recycle them. All of the supplies had the usual barrel connector that perfectly fit my QMX.
