Re: Loading the Ultimate3s Firmware
Len GM0ONX
Did my first one this afternoon using an Arduino to program it on the board.? The information for the settings including the fuses are here?/g/QRPLabs/files/AVR%20Programming and reading the aVRDundess1.pdf file.
The programmer I used was this one?http://prajankya.blogspot.com/2015/11/programming-standalone-avr-with-arduino.html but I used the onboard ISP rather than the breadboard and oscillator shown here. |
Re: QSX radio + 630m :)
Look up "The Old Tech Guy" on YouTube.? he builds several versions and it could save you a lot of trial and error.?
Brady kd8zm Your comment was so vague I decided to go to that Youtoob collection. After looking at a bunch of soso videos and all.? ? What did he build to solve which problem? Allison |
Thought I would share a more detailed video of the QCX Enclosure to be able to use the S1 switch without having to take the enclosure apart to get to it.? This is for the times that you might forget to pack your straight key or your paddles to operate in the field.? This is a great QRP rig and I appreciate that Hans has done such a great job and that BamaTech has made a great enclosure for it.? But, I think this little modification makes the enclosure absolutely perfect now.? Markus at BamaTech was very interested in this modification that I did, I sent him the pictures as well as the measurements.? Don't know if they will incorporate this into future enclosures or not, but he seemed very interested.

Alan, how do youset the fuses?? It's all new to me also.Carl For the values read here /g/QRPLabs/message/24845 I'm not a regular Avrdudess user so best if someone else guides you. 73 Alan G4ZFQ |
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýJohn, ? 1.5 SWR on the Pixie is great.? However, the output impedance of your QCX might be something else which would give you a high SWR reading. ? I¡¯m not familiar with your antenna so can offer no advice there.? I¡¯d tune it into a dummy load and see what power I was getting out.? If it was satisfactory, then I would concentrate on matching the antenna to the QCX according to your antenna instructions or with a tuner.? Care must be taken with the tuner though.? Others are no doubt more knowledgeable about this than me.? Is the antenna a ¡°balanced¡± antenna like a dipole? ? K8AXW ? From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of John ? The SWR on the Pixie said 1:5. So would need to shorten most likely, cut it a little longer than instruction said. Antenna is a qrp-guys no tune ended. |

All nifty work. Time to start learning cw by sound, but since you are sending you must be on your way. If your brain hears dah dididah and without counting anything, translates it to TU, which means thank you, you are progressing. Learn to grab numbers the same way. Also learn about antennas, make a dipole to match your rig. Of course learn the theory and regs to pass that test. If you can use straight key, join skcc when you get your call. It will be great to have another cw ham on the air, of course other modes are okay too but cw is special. Curt |
My first time QCX build - fail.
I finished my QCX 40 this morning and no go. I guess these 72 year old eyes failed me. It powers on, display is good but when I plug headphones in I get a loud tone and nothing else. According the display, it appears to tune the band and I can get all the menus. I hooked an antenna to it and briefly hit the key and could hear a signal on another receiver.
I had to leave but am going to keep checking for solder bridges, cold joints, etc tonight unless someone has any suggestions. Thanks for any help. Jim - K9DD |

Time to slow down a bit. I am wondering if you have a non connection in one or more LPF inductors, as this would cause weak reception and not much transmit. Check these connections with dc turned off, with a dvm for continuity. Check pad to pad without touching wires. Do examine schematic while checking with dvm. I recommend getting receive working with, with fully successful alignment before any more transmit tests. Also use your dummy load instead of an unknown antenna. 73 curt |

Had the wire in the house so that could also be a reason for the high SWR. I did hear a faint signal on 14.074 (FT8). So it does receive, audio level is also pretty low so also have to look into that. Haven't really used it so far other than with a dummy load attached so don't think I already blew my finals. Was my first build after a short while of absence from electronics. Before that I only repaired the audio section of my uBitX (famous TDA2822 smoke). Somewhere next week will get the scope out and see what's going on. John |
