Just wanted to share.? This was my first attempt at a radio from a kit and it seems to be working. The only thing I've built before this was a dummy load so this was a little scary early on.? The directions were wonderful though. So much work went into making them clear enough for a noobie like myself to be able to understand. I know 17m is dead right now but this was a practice radio before tackling the 40m version that is on the desk waiting to come to life.? ?

Bob corrected me, he picked me up on his beverage antenna while he was listening for his balloon. On Fri, Dec 22, 2017 at 5:14 PM Ted Timmons <ted@...> wrote:

QCX T1.00e.hex won't save
I can write the T1.00e.hex file to the QCX but if I turn off power to the QCX for more than a couple of seconds it blanks the screen out and I have to re-write.? It is possible that I forgot to turn on the power to the QCX while programming.? I wonder if that could have destroyed permanent storage?? It is more likely I am doing something wrong but not sure what.? I am using AVR DUDESS? and checking all the boxes that Simon, VK3ELH shows on his examples.? An suggestions?

That is certainly good logic and the place to start. Those points you mention, or a solder bridge/short (possibly to ground) along the path from the drains of the PA FETS to the antenna socket.? Make sure those L1, L2, L3 toroids all had the enamel on their wire legs stripped and soldered properly, several builders have commented that this is where they had an issue.? For a start there should be a direct (zero ohms) path from the antenna socket center pin through to the junction of C29/C27/L3, and no path between the antenna socket center pin and GND. GL, Bob? Away for Christmas/New Year
Hi all I'm away from home for Christmas/New Year vacations. Back 03-Jan-2018. QRP Labs shipping operations are not affected, since I'm not involved directly. I do have internet access, though not continuously like when I'm at home. The main limitations are lack of time while travelling with XYL and kids. So please forgive me - private emails and responses to QRP Labs group posts will be slower than usual, and in many cases, not until I'm back home. 73 Hans G0UPL? ? |

Well, Got the new transistors from Mouser/ Replaced Q6, Q1,2 and 3 because I could. They did not get warm on power up, as expected, as they did before now that Q6 is not shorted. Let it idle for a while. Receiver is still working good. I grounded the radio and now don't have any random hissing or popping in the receiver. Now with grounding no popping or scratching when dialing the frequency. I still get feedback when the audio gain is increased passed 1/3. Keyed the radio briefly with an antenna connected. Got side tone, got no power out. Q1, 2, and 3 get very warm with just a second or less of key down. No indicated power out. I looked over the transmit section briefly but nothing apparent. I can assume from that that Q6 is switching on and there is something getting to the PA, otherwise the transistors in the final would not be getting warm to hot. And I do mean warm right away. Second or less of keydown. I get TX/RX switching as the receiver does mute. Thoughts anyone on where to start looking? I do have a couple of spare transistors but I doubt they failed right away. I am thinking caps or toroids or an open between the final and the antenna out, causing high mismatch. Jess AE0CW |
QCX ... T1.00e.hex loaded ... but how to save program to QCX
Hi,
I managed to get the program T1.00e.hex loaded but it goes away after turning off the power to the QCX.? I know there is a save on the Cheat Sheet but unless I did it wrong it did not save the hex file.? How do I do this? Thank you, Jim Ford N6JF |
Re: [QCX] Oops! Think I fried my audio amplifier?
I replaced Q7 with no change, unfortunately.? It did look damaged on closer inspection - One of the corners looked like it had chipped off somehow.
When I'm referring to Ch 1 and Ch 2, I'm referencing the audio channels in the Test Equipment menu - Page 102 in the manual. I looked at the schematic, and on a hunch checked the volume pot.? Not sure how, but somehow it seems to have gone out - I shorted two of the volume pot pins to check and got a tone. Next time I go out I'll get another volume pot and see if that resolves everything. Thanks! |

the class E amplifier. But many designs get more drive capability another way: using multiple CMOS gates in parallel. 74x00 NAND gates come four to a package, so it's often simple to use two or three of the gates to get more current. On Sat, Dec 23, 2017 at 4:52 PM, G0DZB <g0dzb@...> wrote:

Re: QCX Bricked AT328P
I encountered a very similar message when I flashed my QCX. If I'm following you correctly you just need to select the 328P in the drop-down box. The instructions point to selecting the Atmel 328, but as you found out you have a 328P. It's in the list of processors.
Does that help? --Al WD4AH |
QCX Bricked AT328P
I was trying to follow the directions to upload the latest firmware T1.00e.hex using the Arduino Uno ISP and DUDESS and managed to erase the T1.00b.hex file but I get this error code.? I am using COM4 for both the DUDESS and Arduino ISP program..
Reading | ################################################## | 100% -0.00s avrdude.exe: Device signature = 0xffffff avrdude.exe: Yikes!? Invalid device signature. ???????????? Double check connections and try again, or use -F to override ???????????? this check. avrdude.exe done.? Thank you. I took the label off the processor and I have a 328P.? A blue line shows up over the Flash Box sometimes which I guess means the path to the hex file is OK but not sure. Any ideas what might be wrong? Thank you, Jim Ford N6JF |
