Re: R17 and R24 values ?
Congratulations on your QCX-20 completion.? I too have the QCX-20 and can only work weekends due to the fact that 20m shuts down by the time I get home from work.....? I did manage to work MS, central Canada & Mexico as my first 2 Q's.? Antenna is a 133' 80m doublet up about 35' to a tuner.?? 72; Kurt - W2MW ps.? May have to sign up for a QCX-40 or?QCX-80?so I could play QRP radio at night. -k-

Re: R17 and R24 values ?
Tnx Hans
Problem solved ! I used the 20k trimmer at R24, and replaced R21 by 10k I didn't have to change R49 because by coincidence, I did receive an extra 10k resistor in my kit. Rig powers up fine and I could do all the adjustments as described. Now have to wait for 20m to open up and make a first qso ... I couldn't hear any CW signal this evening, also on my IC7300 the band was completely dead. 73 - Luc - ON7DQ |
Re: FSKCW on U3S QRSS 30m in preparation for New Year's Eve
Over the past couple of days I've tried a few things to help clean up my signal. First, I added a small cardboard "Quonset hut" over the Si5351a daughter-board in an attempt to dampen thermal issues. I also improved some of the internal wiring by shortening power supply cables and using miniature coax for the main RF out. I've also added some shielding to the underside of the synth board in hopes it might keep any hash being radiated from the main board out.
Pictured below is a locally received trace using Argo of my U3S (barefoot) running on a 12V battery.?I'm still a bit ragged looking, but I think this is going to rule out questions of the regulated supply. Ok, I still have the LM7805 regulator board installed. In probing around yesterday with my oscilloscope I was surprised seeing so much RF on the 5V supply during transmit. I did what I could to keep it out of the power supply board, but monitoring the 5V line going to the GPS module it's rather pronounced(sorry no pix). I'll probably keep trying a couple more things before the big event on NYE, but I think will run it with low power, 200mW. Cheers!! --Al |

low Si5351A voltage
I have built the Ultimate 3s and am in the debugging phase. It seems that the voltage on my Si5351A clk0 is extremely low, on the order of 150mV p-p but still has a reasonably correct frequency on my oscilloscope. I've taken it out of the circuit and hooked it up to an Arduino to try and isolate. I'm not sure what could be causing this besides a bad chip but thought I'd throw this out and see if anyone else had solved this problem. Thanks

Jess Gypin
I meant not remembering you or anyone calling out Q6. If you did I missed it, sorry.
I measured Q6 back to back and it appears shorted. A couple of ohms both ways. Since it is a standard npn/on type resistor (I didn't look right now to see which one) should get forward bias, reverse bias indications. Pulled it out and same thing, appears shorted. Do you think it could be powered up with it out of circuit just to see if the controller boots and the menu appears? I will get another either locally or online. Just doesn't look like it will make it in the air anytime soon. And don't know if Q6 failed because of another problem somewhere or just a bad part, hummmph....... Did I miss an email somewhere? I don't remember anyone mentioning Q6. As I said, maybe I have a bit of tunnel vision because almost all of not all of the problems I have had with builds in the passed have been misplaced parts, poor solder joints, cold solder joints or solder bridges. I am spoiled because 90+% of the kits I build work at first power up as I am really careful during the build. Just have to make up my mind that this old dog can learn new tricks. Sorry if I am taking up too much bandwidth but I personally enjoy following others journey with kit builds and success and fixes. But I should not assume.........?

20m QCX Serial #249 will not setup
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI once spent a couple of hours trying to work out a problem like this only to find I had used a push to break switch not a push to make. ? Cheers ? Paul ? M0pnn ? ?
? From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Tim and Janet ? Along with Art I would recommend checking the switch itself and the associated connections.?? I had an intermittent switch that was in the enclosure kit for a U3S.? I wasn't sure if a bit too much heat caused my issue or not and replaced it. I have a 20m QCX kit in shipping now.? Re: [QCX] Still no 40 meter joy
Alan,
Yes I agree. ?Maybe Q4 is stuck on and one of the amplifier FETs (Q1 Q2 or Q3) are shorted. I would go back to the 12 volt main supply line and check voltages from the input then IC11 (pin1) and the 5 volt supply line (pin2). ?Something is pulling the main power source down. ?Pages 125 and 126 in the manual would be a good guide to check 12 volt test points. Re: [ProgRock] Serial port programming issues
Alan: Great minds think alike! I have a flakey switch. The all-important No. 2, which corresponds to BCD 4, is temperamental. As you know, it must be closed for serial port configuration. Last night, on startup, it was working...but this morning it had opened up. Anyway, my terminal is now full of fun information. Thanks all. - Richard, WB5NEN

Re: [ProgRock] Serial port programming issues
now, I no longer even receive the ProgRock firmware statement upon power up. In fact, I can't even get it to print the firmware version with previous (incorrect) terminal settingsRichard, You did startup with the correct switch setting? I'm not sure but if so maybe a bad switch could explain your problems setting frequency. You could check the switches and pushbutton with an ohm meter. When you got the message you were probably just CR-LF away. 73 Alan G4ZFQ . ProgRock won't talk to me. Of course, I receive the "Monitoring serial!" Line from the Arduino, as I should. So, thinking my ProgRock had died, I checked...yes, it is still outputting my two programmed frequencies. |
