Thanks to W1NC!
As I described in this post, what started as a harmless part exchange resulted in a dead QMX, so I sent it off to Jeff, W1NC.? He not only fixed it, he sent me a detailed explanation of what he had to do to repair the radio.? Total turn around was 11 days door-to-door.? I spent several minutes looking over the PCB before I could positively recognize it as the one I had sent him - he cleaned up all of my poor soldering and even removed all of the scorch marks!
I would definitely recommend contacting Jeff if you get to a point where you can't fix it yourself.? While damaging my radio wasn't a good thing, working with Jeff was definitely a great experience!

humbly thinking that this statement is wrong. Wrong in so many ways... Perhaps I did not include enough detail?
I'm referring to C106 and C107.
The parts supplied in Rev 1 were rated at 6V.
The parts supplied in later revs were rated at 10V.

Re: QMX+ WSPR
So, replying to my own message. I ran beacon mode this morning and it failed within 2 hours when spots ceased.. Power cycling the rig resolved the problem for a while until it failed again around 2 hours later. This time, I did see JD38 reported befor all spots ceased again.
I videoed the screen for a both good transmission and a corrupt (no reports received) transmission. There were differences in the first 10 characters between the good and bad transmission (There may well be further differences. It's tedious to work through the whole 160 characters, but I will do so if it helps?).?
The transmitted characters I recorded were as follows (first column is the corrupt and the second is valid):
?
3 1 *
0 0
2 2
0 0
2 2
2 0 *
2 2
1 1
2 2
2 2
?
Which seems to confirm that the problem lies with the QMX+/QLG3 combination.
Hans, please let me know if there is anything I can do to help you solve this.

Re: QMX+ WSPR
Hi all The beacon function in QMX is very old, it originated in the Ultimate WSPR kit, which became Ultimate2, then Ultimate3, then (10 years ago) the Ultimate3S (a.k.a. U3S) see . This is how QRP Labs started. Later, the functionality was ported into the QCX, and eventually QMX.? I suspect the problems are in my QMX firmware, not WSJT-X or WSPRnet.org or anything else.? The issue with WSPR locator squares suddenly changing is on my list to investigate, and one of the developments?I want to make for QMX is a complete virtual U3S which can do everything U3S can do, and more. Band-hopping included, Ken. 73 Hans G0UPL On Mon, May 12, 2025 at 10:35?AM geoff98uk via <g3wpd=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: QMX+ WSPR
I have had the same issue, with a QMX+ and QLG3 combination and have stopped using beacon mode because of it. The setup will typically behave well for a couple of hours before I start to see random JD38 spots and a much reduced total number of spots. A restart of the QMX+ immediately restores normal behaviour, which suggests to me that the problem lies with the transmission and not with the decoding/reporting system.
I didn't realise I could video the screen to record the encoded WSPR transmission - I will try and do that and report back on the results.
I am also in IO91. Is the problem unique to this square I wonder, or if others have experienced it?

QMX receiver went deaf
Last night while playing with my qmx the receiver went deaf. ?This happened after txing on ssb with IQ mode on and panadapter open. ?I was using a mic connected to the radio. ?The S meter with antenna dropped to nearly nothing and I can only hear white noise now.?
?
The radio will still put out 5w. I ran my little signal generator into qmx and on receive I hear nothing at -33dbm. ?At 0dbm (I know quite strong) the signal will get through. ?Any thoughts? ?
Thank you
Ryan?

Re: Feature Request
Hans,
while on this subject, is there any reason the WSPR band hopping as on the U3S could not be incorporated on the QMX+? I really use that feature a lot. I wondered as you have the ¡®Preset¡¯ channels already on the QMX, maybe an option to cycle through these in Beacon mode could be made?

Re: Running Hardware Tests Menu From Windows 11
I'd suggest a program such as PuTTY rather than PowerShell. For starters, it's got a GUI which makes it a lot easier to create connections and save presets with the appropriate settings without having to learn a bunch of CLI syntax. I actually use MobaXterm, but you can't go wrong with PuTTY. I believe it's what Hans uses and recommends and it will keep you out of that rabbit hole!

My Windows 11 PCs recognize my QMX+ immediately upon plugging it in. Try a different USB C cable, some of the cheap ones are flakey and can cause the kinds of problems you're seeing. |

Running Hardware Tests Menu From Windows 11
I built a version 1 QMX+ transceiver which I really like. It seems to work well on the channels I use which is 40-20-15-10M. I recently updated the firmware to version 1_02_000 and I am impressed with the SSB reception. At this time I took the opportunity to connect the transceiver to the Ham Radio Deluxe software which definitely helps me to scan the bands. But I have a reoccurring problem in that my computer does not always recognize the QMX+ and I will get a Device Malfunction when I connect up the patch cord? I have rectified the problem by rebooting both the computer and QMX+ which seems to work.?I have a new HP 64 bit laptop running Windows 11 Home software. I was hoping someone could tell me if this is normal?
?
I would like to run the Hardware Tests Menu and I was hoping someone could walk me through using the Windows 11 PC Terminal Emulator. I understand that I should use the Windows PowerShell Terminal App? I opened the Terminal App and realized it is DOS based with which I am very rusty. It has been 20 years since I have interfaced with DOS and I don¡¯t want to jump down the proverbial rabbit hole. What commands do I use and is it fairly straightforward?
?
The QMX+ is my third QRP Labs kit as I previously built a 20 M QCX-mini and an upper band QMX transceiver. ?Also have a lower band QMX kit coming so I have something to build this summer. Always amazed at how well these kits perform without adjustment. I built a Heathkit HW-16 in High School which was a blast but I had to get a friend who worked at the local TV station to tune it for me.?
