Re: Help with QMX+ on CW
Stan, turns out it was the voltage protection. So, thank you. I sure wish the voltage readout on the radio had one more digit to show voltage to tenths of a voltage, as other QRP rigs do.?
I've heard others recommend two silicon diodes. Is there an advantage to using those, versus a cheap little voltage regulator module? Do the diodes consume power by converting it into heat, as a resistor does??
I might use 7 rechargeable lithium batteries, as a possible 10.5v solution, to see if that works. Any thoughts on that?
Thanks again! |

At least from 2 V up at gate of Q101 the voltage at drain should be near 0 V. You see 2.6 V at the gate, enough. Please check voltage at drain of Q101 (or at gate of Q102). If voltage at gate of Q102 is lower than voltage at source of Q102, in worst case 2 V or more, voltage at drain of Q102 should be close to voltage at source of Q102. Which voltages do you see?

And voltage at drain of Q110 should also be near 0 V.

Re: Qmx plus rev 2 not powering up
Dear Stan
Now makes more sense this all thing.
Basically I do have continuity between the drain of Q102 and In of IC101, NO ISSUE on the Via as you and Ludwig mentioned.
Further debugging, I measure the LIN_REG_EN and I get 2.6v when the button is pressed meaning at gate of q101 i have now 2.6v not the previous 5v (something else seams to be wrong now).
Can some one guide me on debugging LIN_REG_EN?
Thanks

Re: Max Voltage for QMX 9V
Thanks, Allision, for the definitive answer here. I've been using a buck converter to run my QMX off a 12V battery. I was hoping to come up with a ~9V LiFePO4 battery so that I can remove the buck converter from my setup but since so many people have kept suggesting it, I'm now looking into ways of integrating it into this DIY battery that I'm working on. Re: Something new happened on the QMX receive audio doesn’t blank when mic is pressed.
So tonight I did a reset and calibration and the problem is gone. It was actually gone after performing the reset and a power cycle. Interesting thought on the power possibility. I was running it on a battery pack today when I noticed it. However, after connecting it to a power supply at 12 volts it did not correct. ?It looks ok now..
Thanks for the reply.

开云体育Something like that happened to me when my battery got close to the end. Seems that at the initial key down there’s a power drain beyond my limits. ?Changing batteries fixed the problem. ?I was using 9v rechargeable and it was depleted.John KK4ITX? Visit: ?. ? ? Has anyone else seen an issue where the receive audio stays on during transmit? I noticed it today. It happened on all bands and when I key the mic the receiver audio doesn’t blank. It’s not receiving but just a hiss like listening to a dead band.
Im able to receive fine. I was able to make ssb contacts too.
I figured it was my powered speaker but I switched it to my QMX+ and it works fine.

Anyone?

Re: QMX+ Right button Diagnosing as "on"
Check that the tab on the display is bent over and not shorting the capacitor on the PCB. ?I went round and round on this symptom until I found it. ?You will have to carefully remove the display from the pcb to correct it.

?I’ve seen this 3 times now. ? It’s an easy thing to overlook.

Re: Tone or birdie every 500 Hz in USB mode
Stan,? Yes, I'm sure about that. After I read reports of that I checked for tones and birdies. I found a few birdies here and there, but not these tones. They also were not there at first with the SSB software, but appeared after I started experimenting with band settings and calibration. I noticed the case got very warm after about 2 hours of trying different configurations, and then at one point I got a high pitched, very loud screech on one band. I noticed these in and off beeping noises after that, and it seemed like the birdies became more noticeable too. Something changed.?

Re: Windows WSJT-X audio input level adjustment
If you recently used the QMX+ system menu to switch from USB to LSB, that could be the problem.? If you did, and it is set back to USB, try setting it to LSB again, exiting the menus, then go back in and set it to USB.? I had one occurrence of changing back to USB not 'taking', and had to toggle it again.? Perhaps a firmware error, and perhaps associated with me changing CW-R mode at the same time. |
Re: I just ordered a QCX+ kit
Mike and Gary, Thanks for your comments. Building and then repairing the QDX was the most I could do. I'm using a soldering station set to 750°F with a very fine tip. I've carefully studied the QCX+ manual; the PCB is low-density, and I'm familiar with through-hole components. I plan to mount all the ICs on sockets. What I also like is the multitude of pin header pads, which will allow me to experiment with a circuit I understand well. As for choosing the 20M band, solar activity will start to decrease, and at my age, the higher bands will become permanently unaffordable, even if the 10M band is currently very active; it won't last. Hi!

Re: Help with QMX+ on CW
If you are using a fully charged bioenno "12V" lifepo battery,? you are likely putting in well over 13V to your QMX+, and your voltage protection is disabling your transmit, which also disables the sidetone.
?
Turn on the QMX+ battery voltage display by going into the 'Display/controls' menu, selecting 'Battery display', then enable it in voltage mode,? and set 'Batt. full' to 12,000 which I think is the default.? Exit the menu and you should see the measured input voltage in the upper right corner of the display.? The dots under the number represent additional 10ths of a volt.? If the number is flashing, your voltage protect has triggered and is inhibiting tx.
?
You don't want to run your QMX+ at over about 12V.? A couple of simple silicon diodes in series will probably reduce your bioenno output to a safe voltage.?

Don't forget to run the button and knob checks as well as the paddle check. Be sure the setting for what paddle mode you are using is set in the menu and that your paddle plug matches the required pin out to the paddle jack. Another item that might need checking is whether the menu is set to expect a GPS input on the paddle jack.? And ... There are numerous warnings in the docs to not exceed 12 volts (or 9 if built for that), essentially ... ever ...
