Re: Diagnostics fail with no BS170s installed

My QMX has been running nicely with the replaced MS5351 but last night I managed to knock the MS5351 off.? Running with no case...
It took a couple of the pads off so another repair is going to be a problem.? Still it showed SSB working.
?
I've ordered a QMX+ kit, It's been something I've been planning to do for some time.? Toroid winding time soon!

Hi All
?
Just noticed another firmware update. beta 1_01_0021. Bug fix: Update year to 2025 on terminal and LCD splash screen
2. Bug fix: Incorrect percentage completion status in phase error Calibration 3. Bug fix: Changes to SSB drive level did not take effect until leaving config 4. Bug fix: SWR protection was enabled in SSB even when SWR was disabled in menu! 5. Bug fix: CW memory keying activated with Tune DblClick during SSB mode 6. Bug fix: Hardware tests / Audio sweep wasn't working 7. Bug fix: Lockup when entering VFO modes menu on terminal ?
?
Cheers

Excess current (but only a little)
#qmx
Another happy QMX customer, I admit that the built was challenging, but the excellent instructions and various tips from this group made it manageable, with first time switch on. This is a 12v mid band version, where getting the wires into the holes for L401 is very difficult if not impossible in the case of the 2 common wires from the a and b coils. I do think that if the holes were slightly bigger, then the wires could be tinned, easing considerably the uncertainties over wire stripping and proper solder connection of the toroids.
?
I do however observe ~100mA current drawn on receive on all bands. ?I have measured this various ways using different meters and via the voltage across a 10 ohm series resistor; so I think that this is accurate. ?The device powers up correctly, I have loaded the firmware, tested the transmitter and as far as I can tell is working properly. ?So, I don't think this is a problem, but 20mA is a significant percentage over the expected value and so I wondered whether there is something wrong, or is it within the observed tolerance seen by others?

Hi all I just updated the QMX SSB Beta firmware page with release?1_001_002 which fixes a number of reported bugs, as follows:
Thank you for all your support and testing! I am extremely pleased with how well SSB firmware is working for many?people.? 73 Hans G0UPL |
Re: QMX Power on/off loud pop (wife warning update)
Thought I send out an update on my fool proof warning system detecting
the wife heading towards the shack with her “to do list”
Hans had some great suggestions but I came up with something that cost?
nothing and works 100 % of the time.
I hung a sign on the outside of the closed door to the shack that reads,

She’s never made it through the door since!!

Hi Randy ?
Thanks - the same thing was also reported by Muhsin TA1MHS and I have reproduced it here, and fixed. I will release a new beta version shortly.? 73 Hans G0UPL |
Hi Brien ?
Thanks, I have now fixed that bug and will release a new beta version shortly.? 73 Hans G0UPL |

I can certainly hear the difference.? Can I ask how you got the recording?? I would like to try on my own device.I'm using an IC-7200 that has a built in USB sound interface.? I made a recording of testing SSB on my QMX HB on 17M:
?
The setup is QMX transmitting into dummy load and IC705 receiving near by. Overall it sounds pretty good, but there's a tone of 2kHz whenever the noise gating is not in effect (can be seen on IC705's waterfall). When my voice is loud, it seems the 2kHz tone will be attenuated, but otherwise it's quite obvious. Noise cancellation doesn't help - in fact, it raises the background noise by about 10dB. I have some other findings but they're relatively minor. For this 2kHz tone, I'm not sure it's from hardware of software. I'm planning to build a QMX+ to test again.

Re: .6mm wire included in new kit
Hi Dean ?
It's nothing to do with the wire diameter. There must be some other reason. There is always variation from unit to unit anyway. In my tests for whether or not the wire diameter made any difference, I was extremely careful. I used a QMX+ which was the SAME throughout. I removed the choke and replaced the wire on it with 0.33mm. Then made power measurements (oscilloscope Vpp) and spectrum analyzer measurements (for harmonics) on all 12 bands. Next, changed the output transformer too, and re-measured. Finally, changed the SWR bridge and re-measured. The measurements were also done on a 9V QMX. By changing only one component at a time, I could be sure that no other build or components variance parameters could influence the conclusions.? 73 Hans G0UPL |

Re: QMX+: what does an 'S' in the Practice Mode space mean?
开云体育I’ve gotten it a couple of times on my QMX. ?I assume it means that you’ve triggered the SWR protection on the rig. Don WS9Q On Mar 19, 2025, at 7:24?PM, Bruce K1FFX via groups.io <rosen.bruce@...> wrote:

Re: Can't get SWR sweeps to be 1:1 with dummy load
Actually one more question here. I tried the q508 voltage tests again with a 10 volt supply. I get a reading of 9.33 volts on transmit, which I think implies that this FET is "leaky" in that current is flowing even though the RX logical signal successfully pulls down to zero volts?
?
I'm wondering if this is actually the source of the problem, in that the FET is only partially protecting the receive chain during transmit.
?
Sounds like I should plan to replace the FET as well, correct?
?
Thanks,

Beta Bug:
I've run into the following bug in 1_00_001:
QMX+: I upgraded from 027 to 1_00_000 then 1_00_001.
QMX: Upgraded from 027 directly to 1_00_001.
Symptom is, upon entering the "VFO Modes" menu location from PC, the radio locks up. No response from Putty, no response to button presses. Resolution is to remove power and restart.
?
This is repeatable every time from the serial interface. It does not lock up if accessed through the front panel buttons.
