Re: #qdx Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed) #qdx

Restart of the device seems to "cure" it, but it's not really a typical way to deal with a hot-pluggable device.? Whatever happens at startup should happen on hot plug, I suspect.? This all pre-supposes that there is room for the code to do so.? MCU devices carry with them trade-offs due to limited capacities.

Re: Possible Rev 5 Suggestion - Multicolor LED

It can (for some) be difficult to count the flashes as well.? I have struggled with this depending on lighting conditions and radio positioning.? Three flashes fools me into believing it's two flashes and then I have to stop everything to carefully count.? Blue Power, Red TX means low audio, and?Green TX means all is well!? Something like that maybe?? The user wouldn't even have to focus on the device, only note the color change.

In the meantime, reducing the LED brightness may make the flashes easier to count also.

It's nice to catalog things like this for later revs.? They aren't show-stoppers but they make the device more user-centric for some lines of code to set GPIO levels (I'm sure it's a bit more than that ;) ).

Brad,

Have you looked? The flashes are continuous, 3 fast - miss one or two flashes - 3 fast.
Same with 2 flashes.
On continuously..
I'm not sure that colours would help, apart from being pretty:-)

Re: Possible Rev 5 Suggestion - Multicolor LED

Hans,

In my opinion the blinking mono color LED requires observation at the exact time of activity to count blinks, where a multicolor LED would not require such attention. A casual glance would alert the operator to the condition.?

This is one of those Human Systems Integration pieces that just improves the overall usability of the machine. Not a ¡°must have,¡± but a nice to have.?

I hope no offense was taken at the suggestion.?

Re: QSX Stuck in Firmware Update Mode

Thanks, Al. I don't think that's the problem. Other aspects of the QDX seem to be working well. I can use telnet and do other things.

Re: QDX LED Flashing Continuously #qdx

Well, I sort of figured it out. I can go through the firmware update process. At least, I *think* it's updating. After that, it seems to be operating normally. But whenever I power it up, it goes into firmware-update mode. I can't get it out of that mode unless I go through the update process. Yes, I've tried to remove and restore the power. I really don't want to have to install firmware every time up power up the rig!

Re: No Serial Port? (QDX on Mac OS) #qdx

Still having problems. Let's see if I can document things properly. QDX version 4. Firmware 1.05. Mac OS Monterey 12.6.

Here's a screenshot of flrig:

I can hear audio from the device "QDX Transceiver". I did have to crank up the flrig volume a bit.

Here are two screenshots from WSLT-X:

The "Test CAT" does nothing, but eventually causes a runtime error.

Does anyone see any obvious problems from the configs?

Two problems:
  1. There's no audio getting to WSJT-X.
  2. The audio I do hear from flrig is just noise. Now this is a different (and perhaps greater) problem that I'll have to address once I get WSJT-C working. I have a feeling there's a more serious problem with the QDX receiver since unplugging the antenna causes no change in the audio I hear. And I can't hear any kind of traffic -- just noise.
But I think I should solve #1 first, then attack the receiver problem.

Re: Possible Rev 5 Suggestion - Multicolor LED

Hello Brad

Doesn't the existing LED already indicate Power on, TX and insufficient audio drive??

Subject: [QRPLabs] Possible Rev 5 Suggestion - Multicolor LED
Good afternoon all.? I was talking with another fellow about the lack of indications with the QDX and that got us thinking about the possibility of using a multi-color LED instead of the current mono-color.? Would be nice to have an RGB LED to indicate Power On, TX, and ???.? Maybe insufficient output audio?? Due to the additional lead(s), it would require a new PCB.? With a bi-color, you can probably get away with the current PCB layout.? Not sure about voltages though.

Shack in a box #50wpa

I'm investigating a shack in the box based on a 4SQRP Bayou Jumper plus Hans's 50 W amp. The BJ has a manual TR switch- should I attach the PTT line there? Or is it bad to leave the PTT line high even if the transmitter isn't active?

Also, if I want to run barefoot (5 W), can I transmit through the amp? Or do I need a bypass switch? (Can this switch be ordinary or do I need a fancy coaxial switch/relay?

Thanks for your time!

Re: LPF kit and 50W amp

Everything went fine. 40m is putting out about 45w and 20m is a little low at about 30w both at 20v. Bias doesn't change with band. Make successful tests on JS8 and packet tonight.?

Doug,

That is the newest. I'm using it as well.

Just had a thought, Monterey is likely more picky with things than Mojave. Check in the Mac System Prefs in Security & Privacy to be sure something isn't being held up there.

Flrig will have no effect on sound except that you can raise the sound output from the QDX via the slider in the GUI.

I believe you said you were able to see the sound card in the Audio Setup in Wsjtx, correct?

There is a thread a few months back on navigating the QDX's menu on a Mac (symptom is ctrl-Q does not work).

Re: QSX Stuck in Firmware Update Mode

Sounds like the CPU memory isn¡¯t surviving a power cycle, probably not something Hans tests for, as it should be pretty unlikely. I think this is the second one I¡¯ve heard of on this list.

Hans will make it right!

?When I power up my QDX, it's in Firmware Update mode. (LED flashing ~5Hz). The QDX drive appears on my Mac, but no files appear in the folder. I then drag the 1_05.QDX file to the folder and EEPROM.QDX suddenly appears as well. The LED starts flashing more rapidly, suggesting the firmware update is underway. After a bit, the LED turns solid red and the QDX seems to work.

However, when I then turn the QDX off and back on, it re-enters firmware-update mode. Powering off/on again and it's still in update mode. So the only way I can get out of update mode is to go through the update procedure each time I power up. QDX pcb rev 4.
