Re: Output vs. frequency behavior QCX 30m
Thanks all for your reactions. I have built my QCX for 30m. The fact that its output power is higher on 40m is unintended and not the result of some sort of deliberate compromise. My new LPF should be OK if you look to the PDF file: -3dB @11.3 MHz, and already virtually flat at 10.170 and lower. So the transmit behavior - gradually increasing output with decreasing frequency - is likely not the result of the LPF. I hope Steve, MW0KST, will conduct his experiment with L4 any time soon. Very curious to see what will happen.

Vernon, here is my U3S barefoot outputting 200mW and received locally on SDRplay RSP1 and piped into Argo. AGC is off in the RSP1. I did reduce the sensitivity of Argo to get a bit cleaner trace. But, it looks about the same as with the amp. :-(? --Al WD4AH |
Re: Ordering parts without outrageous shipping costs
You don't even have to mail in your Digikey order, just the check. You
can assemble the cart online and then choose to mail a check to pay. You wait a bit longer for your parts but you save money. On Wed, Dec 13, 2017 at 12:21 PM, D. Daniel McGlothin KB3MUN <kb3mun@...> wrote: On 12/13/2017 11:54, zfreak@... wrote: |

Re: Progrock
Hi Dave You have the fuses wrong on the blank chip you programmed.. The default fuse settings for the Tiny84A have the divide-by-8 clock flag enabled. So your ATtiny84A is running 8x too slowly, this explains why you have serial communication at 1200 baud not 9600 baud.? I think that you should correct the fuse settings - I am not sure if there may be some other undesirable side-effects if the clock is 8 times too slow.? 73 Hans G0UPL On Wed, Dec 13, 2017 at 8:39 PM, Dave Miller <ve7hr@...> wrote: Hans or anyone else, |
Re: Ordering parts without outrageous shipping costs
This inductor is not at all critical. Just use any inductor from the junk box!? 73 Hans G0UPL On Wed, Dec 13, 2017 at 8:21 PM, D. Daniel McGlothin KB3MUN <kb3mun@...> wrote:

Try squeezing / pulling out the turns on the yellow filter toroids. This made a? massive difference on my 20m QCX and I was able to go from 2.1W to 3.8W by doing just that.
We'll ignore that fact that it has now stopped TXing - that's another thread! Steve G0KYA |
Progrock
Hans or anyone else,
I am testing out my Progrock with the pr1.01a.hex file. I cannot connect to it with 9600 Baud but works perfectly on the communication side with 1200 Baud. Has anyone seen this? Note I did program the Tiny84 myself from a blank IC. Are there any setting I need to adjust when programming. I have not looked at the output yet. Thansk Dave Ve7HR |
Re: Output vs. frequency behavior QCX 30m
Steve K1RF,
How critical is the resonant circuit C30 and L4 for single band performance? ?Are we looking at a broad bell shaped curve response or a sharp peak? ?I think I read somewhere Hans picked the values by experiment because of the "floating" capacitance from the FETS etc. ?Maybe a mica capacitor would be in order for C30 if the original were heating up. while Hans said it was easy to remove L5, my went kaput also (not many days before your attempt) !? it my case it was mechanical stress.? I found a 25 uH inductor in my stash, made decades ago - a little toroid coil encapsulated with leads.? the higher Q of this inductor seems to not be an issue for this application.? see if you have a ferrite core in your stash, and see how many turns in might take to get into vicinity of 25 uH.? meanwhile - I was also check the firm mentioned as my stash in pretty lean on RF chokes of the smaller variety.? it was a good result - previously on some power ups the QCX VFO resolution could not be adjusted - as it would go to a different menu item when I pressed the button on the tuning knob - now it seems to be working, based upon just a few trials. ? Re: Ordering parts without outrageous shipping costs
Kurt,? I like . They stock modern parts, and will ship via USPS. My last order of mostly surface mount parts shipped for less than $4. I can always find stuff to add to my cart to help me justify the four bucks shipping. I think we're all spoiled by the cheap shipping we can get from Asia. I am still amazed that I can buy something for $0.99 and get it shipped to me, albeit slowly, for free from halfway around the world.? Regards, Mike M. Re: Ordering parts without outrageous shipping costs
TaydaElectronics.com - they have a $5 minimum order requirement, but shipping is very cheap. Just get the bill up to $5, and chances are?that you will pay $1.50 or close to that in shipping. They don't have everything, but it's my go-to place for run of the mill stuff. Shipping might take a little bit longer than your Mouser or Digikey order, but I usually get my package after about a week (give or take a couple of days).?

Ordering parts without outrageous shipping costs
Greetings all;
? Well I was attempting to make the L5 inductor (100 micro Henry across pins 7 & 20)? mod when I apparently overheated it having it to fall apart... one of many boneheaded maneuvers on my part.? Last night I went to several on-line parts places only to find state side shipping costs on items less than $1 can go upwards of $10.? THAT"S CRAZY!? I can see spending $1-$2 which is still high for 5 axial inductors.?? Where do you order your parts from?? Is there a cheaper place I might be missing? 72; Kurt - W2MW |
