I guess you mean "in phase"? If they're out of phase, it should measure
around 5 volts AC.
I would encourage anyone to use needle probes with their test gear, even
make them yourself. Too many faults are caused by testing..
One handy (footy?) thing I'm using is a foot switch. It connects the
supply to a separate socket (via the contactor). It's good to securely
place the probes in circuit and only then, for a brief moment, apply
voltage.
...of course in this case it wouldn't be of much help, as QDX has to be
powered and TX-ing... but in many other cases it helps.
