Re: QCX & Ant Tuning

The G5RV is not cut to a resonant point on any ham band.? Close though.? It is cut to a length giving a reasonable SWR when fed at a specific point along the antenna on any of the bands.? Let's face it, a resonant dipole is in most cases is not resonant either because we are given bands and not specific frequencies and we all roam around the bands.? The G5RV was used as an example and not used to hijack the topic.

My point was not to put anyone down.? Nobody purposefully gave false information.? Lack of knowledge produced some of the statements.? Antennas are a BIG topic.? There are always many exceptions to many conclusions for good reason.? A few correct comments can be taken out of context and have one plus one seem to equal five.? Someone wanting to learn about a subject does not need to hear initially of all the exceptions and reasons for these exceptions.? He needs to get down to unencumbered, for the most part, BASICS. Then he can go on to the "except for and howevers." A newbie does not need to hear from those wanting to impress upon him how much he knows. ? My points are:

1.? It's false to assume a resonant antenna always has a low SWR or match.

2.? It is false to assume a resonant antenna is a better radiator and has more efficiency then a non resonant antenna.

One line comments and suggestions can get you in big trouble on this vast topic.? I am fearful what I have said somehow will produce a flame war.? Not the intent at all.? Just trying to set the record straight.? I don't plan to add anything more to my comments.? Don't wish to get into any kind of know more then you contest.? New guys need basic facts and don't need false impressions or assumptions. I think it would be good advice for those wanting to understand antennas better to read up on why I said what I said in my two points at off site references.
