Not
criticizing, but we have seen this phenomena several times in
the past.? There is
nothing
keeping you from starting your own group.? There are already
several of these
groups
existing, but not particularly active.? This situation exists
with both the QRP-Labs
group and the BITX20 group.?
I'm
not sure which is worse...having too much email from an active
and concentrated
group,
or having to go to several groups to see all the relevant
information.? End result
is
probably about the same message load but having multiple
groups for a specific interest
may be a less efficient way to access all the relevant
information.? The message load
can
go way up if you have well-meaning persons re-posting the same
information on
both
Facebook and discussion group forums.? There are people who do
that and think
that
they are helping.
Facebook
is a public forum.? You cannot control who posts to your group
and you
cannot
control what they post.? Facebook does support subscription
groups, but this is
easy to bypass.?? On Facebook you have very limited ability to
put an abusive poster on
moderation or to ban that person from unwanted posting.? Most
group moderators will
eventually face this problem because people are different and
see things differently,
thus the need for moderation capability.
On
FB you have to scroll through all the advertisements, and only
some can be blocked.
No,
I am not anti-Facebook.? I have my own non-technical Facebook
ID that is used for
humor,
politics, photography, and family events.? I once had a
Facebook group for
QRP
Technical Topics but discontinued it for reasons already
mentioned above.
The
idea of moving non-technical discussion to another group does
have merit.? Problem
is
one of how to divide what goes in one group versus what goes
in the other group, and
then
how to enforce that division.
