yep, I strongly suspect not only do they rely on the precise hardware layout inside the phone, but they will be driven with some quite serious waveform shaping (equalisation etc) in order to cater for their most likely very non-flat frequency response. ?So do not be surprised if they sound pretty bad once extracted from a phone ;-)
