Re: QMX Failure Discovered...and new problem

I got the Q108 transistor and replaced it with no issues. Testing board out of circuit showed no problems. I took one more look at the p/s's and found that I had knocked off D105 from the 3.3 V board. I replaced it with a leaded 1N4148. So, p/s repairs done - not pretty, but functional.?
?
I then tried the radio again and it fired up just fine at 7 volts. Self test through the USB port showed everything working correctly. Display and control board operating properly. I ramped the voltage up slowly to 12 volts with no problem. Radio powered on and off multiple times with no problem. Current somewhat high at 200 mA.?
?
Voltage down to 7 volts again, paddles, headphones, and power meter/ dummy load hooked up. Tested power out on CW - approximately 1.6 W on 80-30m and 1.2 W on 20. Ramped voltage (slowly) up to 10 V, receive only, and smoke came out, display turned off, and weird noises from headphones. I removed power immediately.?
?
On inspection, IC403 has a hole in the top. No other damage that I can see. So more problems. Not sure if this is related to the p/s problems. I hope it is not indicative of more failures. I'll get this repaired and report back.?
