This is Allan VK4HIT with news from Ipswich and District Radio Club.

If you know someone keen to get on-air with a Foundation licence,
registrations are now open for the first course of 2022 commencing Tuesday
January 25 to be held at the Ipswich clubhouse.

The course will run seven weeks and end with an assessment day on Saturday
March 12.

The course itself is free, however the Foundation Licence Manual can be
purchased on the first night for $20.

There are other costs associated with the exam and licence application -
these are set by the Australian Government.

Cost details will be provided on the first night of the course. All that
is asked from students is a commitment to learn and enjoy. The club’s
volunteer instructors will commit to students and provide the best
information and knowledge to give all on the course the highest chance of
passing the final exam and assessment.

The number of students will be capped at five.

Hello, I’m Geoff Emery, VK4ZPP, and I’ve been thinking.

You really don’t know what to expect when it comes to the weather over
Summer. A week or so back the potential outlook for Christmas was for
“reasonable” weather and two days before the holiday we have the promise
of inland storms and possible rain along the coast. The one good thing
about observations is that the space weather which
effects radio propagation is a little easier to describe ahead of the
happening. It may be the start of the great Wet for VK4 this coming week
but with the solar flux hitting triple digits as a result of several
visible sunspots, radio could be wonderfully entertaining for the next few
days. However, we may also suffer some blackouts if the solar flares hit
the upper atmosphere at the wrong time.

So it is that Boxing Day is one where many households get to have the cold
cuts left from Christmas dinner. It is a day for relaxation, listening to
cricket and recovering from the excitement that surrounds Christmas. I
hope that people found pleasure in the traditions that their family
brought to them and the gifts were well
appreciated.

I can’t really give credit to a marketing figure why drives a hyper-sonic
conveyance powered by arctic herbivores. Apart from which we didn’t manage
to erect an imitation tree to collect wrappings and packaging around. I
spoke of getting an “Outbacker” mobile antenna and the fact I no longer
had a base for one. Shortly after the news went to air I took a call from
another amateur and the base has been
united with the antenna. Many thanks again to the wonderful group of
people that we share this service with.

There are a number of new pieces of equipment gracing shacks from what I
have gathered. I trust the static crashes are far, far away and the HF
bands are bouncing signals well today. So whether you are relaxing,
enjoying family time or even one of the people working to keep things
going, I wish you the best as I go to enjoy some family time today as
well.

Just a reminder that there are many natural disasters around the
Indo-Pacific regions and we should ensure that emergency traffic is not
disrupted by our traffic.
