Bluetooth and FT8cn
10
The q900 radio has Bluetooth built in. My Android tablet sees this Bluetooth. But when I try to connect to it from my tablet it asks for the PIN. It suggests 0000 or 1234 but neither of these work. The FT8cn software claims that it can connect to the q900 radio via Bluetooth. However I'm at a loss as to how that can be when I can't get my tablet to connect with the radio via Bluetooth without entering the correct PIN which isn't listed in the user manual or anywhere else online that I can find. Do any of you have any suggestions?

FT-8 on the Q900
4
When running FT-8 or JS8-Call, my CAT control periodically disconnects. Usually a "retry" or toggling of IFG in the RF menu reconnects. I'm pretty sure my Windows 11 laptop setup is good, and I'm using a high quality, "IF certified" USB cable with chokes at either end. I'm keeping the radio 3' from the laptop. Anyone else have a similar issue, or thoughts on a solution?

Recommended GPS Antenna for Q900 (v4)
6
I purchased a Quohetec Q900 v4 with all modules (GPS, DMR and Compass). When I received it, it didn't have a GPS antenna. I contacted the seller and they responded that the Q900 with GPS module is no longer includes a GPS antenna. The manual simply states that it should be an "active" antenna. Seaching Amazon I see many active GPS antennas with a SMA connector. They all seem to require 3-5 volts. So far I haven't been able to obtain any information regarding what GPS antenna specifications are required. Does anyone have a GPS antenna that works properly on a Q900 v4 or what antenna would be recommended. Chris - KE8VOD

Q900 ALC
Let me know if this reaches you. I’m old and retired out of the communications field. I hired people to do the IT stuff so am now playing catch up. My computer skills are poor. I had to hire someone to get me onto your site. That said……. I’ll keep it short to see if this works. I have bought three of the Q900’s. None work properly. The last one I feel is just a software issue. The main thing that I am chasing is it appears the ALC does not work or is extremely out of adjustment. I put a .01 across the cartridge thinking maybe it was RFI at first. Then padded the audio way down as the MIC gain seems to have no effect. It has the latest firmware. When I finally got a beautiful wave form and it sounded great I looked at the watt meter and realized I was only putting out a couple of watts before over drive. I have more but let's test the water. HOW to use DMR with the Q900 or even program it?
3
Hello, I did a quick look through the group using DMR in the search filed. But didt find much I have a version 4 q900 with the DMR module, How do you even program this with the Q900? is there software? I saw a reference of the Q900 software site, but that 3-part RAR file is a mess and no executable in fact part 2 of the RAR contains nothing. I saw reference CHIP, but I don't think the eQ900 is supported or even how would one connect it to the radio for programming? On the channel programing note, what are folks using to just plain ole program the radio, for repeaters, etc. I managed to get a couple in manually through the front panel, but what a PITA. any recommendation would be greatly appreciated/ Rick N8SDR

Why I like my q900

On a whim, connected it up to some random speaker wire and a key, and started working stations from atop my piano. Try that with your TS-990… de kt8dx

Has anyone found the manuals yet?
16
Hello, I finally decided myself to purchase one and BTW I can recommend this shop: https://fr.aliexpress.com/store/5891678?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.7.ef7b5e5bLi4t6o ordered 24th Feb arrived today. Funny enough AliExpress still says "Awaiting shipment" but at the same time I contacted the seller it arrived in my mailbox. Anyway after power up and playing with the Rx a little bit in CW mode (the item came with the CW filter selected) I would like to go a bit further. And it seems difficult to explore at random. Alas! Guohetec seems to have done a little mess up with the docs on their site: https://www.guohedz.com/DOWNLOAD since the link to the doc points to the rudimentary specs of TBR-119. Has anyone been successful in getting the Q900 manual? Thanks! Edouard. Brgds, Edouard.

Q900 Controls

Can anyone explain the "CMP" control on the AF menu? The manual's "MIC companing ratio" description doesn't help me much. Any suggestions on its best setting for SSb voice and for FT-8? Thanks in advance!

Programming
2
For everyone’s awareness, I’ve been underwhelmed by GHterminal as a programming tool, therefore filed a ticket to have it supported by CHIRP. https://chirp.danplanet.com/issues/10796 If you support this idea, please let them know. Would love to have good software support for this radio. Thank you, Nick

Gen 4 released
15
A new V4 Q900 is being released. It adds single antenna tx/rx on V/U via the sma connector, and hf/6m through the other connector. Also higher audio out for headphones and the 70 MHz band. Also DMR fixed. If anyone buys this and tests the functionality it would be nice to see what the results are. I’m curious as to whether dmr will work through hotspots and repeaters.

Can we add files and maybe a wiki?? as a repository?
3
Hi Admin, Can we put in a files section? so we can find information on versions, tests, etc.. more easily.. Im asking as it is a PITB to find stuff in the whatsapp group, and if you are new there, you can't see history.. I have seen a WiKi and maybe that would be something to use too.. Would be nice of Guohetec to sponsor.. :-D 73, Dick

Audio Out for beautiful sound
3
I hate the scratchy speaker on this radio but the audio out from the speaker jack seemed to be very low, having to turn it all the way up in the audio settings to get anything amplifiable. Then tonight I noticed that the headphone audio was perfectly fine if I unplugged the microphone that came with the radio! What? So then I was about to open up the microphone and disconnect the speaker in it, (it's a speaker-mic), when I noticed a tiny hole next to the wire going in! A headphone jack! So I plugged my little Anker blue-tooth wired speaker plug into that and Wahoo! Beautiful full-quality sound! So the speaker-mic was taking all the audio from the headphone output, and I'll probably disconnect the wire inside but for now I can listen to this little wonder like it had a large sound-system hooked up to it! After years of listening to SSB on older radios, it is a pleasure to hear SSB on these new radios, as you can set the bass in the audio settings to your taste. Many people have a pleasant bass component to their voice when in conversational mode on local 40-80 meter nets, so this is a big plus. That, plus the DSP settings and the radio begins to sound like the people are in the room with you! -- Bob, KL7EAL Los Angeles

Q900 not transmitting on VHF/UHF
6
Has anyone else had this problem? After all the confusion of finding an understandable and useful manual (it was in the USB dongle that came in the box, I thought that was for firmware-only so never looked on it), I finally have exhausted all options and cannot get the radio to transmit a usable signal on VHF or UHF. I can hear the transmissions on an HT in the room, but no real output, and the ammeter on my power supply for it shows only a slight increase in power being drawn, maybe half an amp, no matter the "PA" setting . In addition, the receive sensitivity seems to be a lot lower on those bands, and the UHF has a constant pulse noise on the one frequency I want to tune it to, even if nobody is on it. Has anyone else had this problem, or do I have a defective radio? Or worse, did I transmit before knowing which output, (SMA or PL259) is the proper port, and blew the finals on VHF/UHF? That is a possibility, I agree! In addition, here are the instructions from the 2.2 manual re: antenna ports usage: Optional DMR module 144MHz / 430MHz input and output from ANT1. Note:if optional DMR model. in 80 ~ 520 MHZ antenna 1, DMR and DFM mode for sending and receiving antenna interface.Frequency in 80 ~ 520 MHZ model for SSB, the CW, AM, WFM, (NFM), RTTY interface for TX.Antenna interface 2 in 100 KHZ ~ 80 MHZ frequency, mode for SSB, the CW, AM, WFM, (NFM), RTTY for incoming and outgoing interfaces.Antenna receiving frequency range of 2 to 100 KHZ to 2000 MHZ.For radio inside two rf amplifier, share the different frequency band signal amplification. So in 80 ~ 520 MHZ SSB, the CW, AM, WFM, (NFM), RTTY modulation mode, the antenna interface 1 as launch interface, 2 as receiving antenna interface interface, need to pick up two antennas at the same time. No optional DMR model ,not connect. Confusing, huh! To make matters worse, the picture of the back of the radio in the 2.2 manual shows ANT1 as the SMA port, but on the real radio Q900 version 3 I got, that is labeled Ant2! At any rate, neither output SO239 or SMA puts out any signal. I have the "FULL" version, with DMR, compass, GPS modules added. -- Bob, KL7EAL Los Angeles

Firmware Version 3, Q900?
5
Any idea where to download the latest firmware? In trying to solve my no-transmit on VHF/UHF, I thought it would be on the USB stick, but it wasn't. So I downloaded what was said to be the latest firmware and put it on the USB stick, 'upgraded', but it turned out to be a version two firmware, which didn't improve anything, and on boot-up, shows that the gyro module is not detected! Now I can't find the Version 3 firmware! -- Bob, KL7EAL Los Angeles
