Recommended GPS Antenna for Q900 (v4)
I purchased a Quohetec Q900 v4 with all modules (GPS, DMR? and Compass). When I received it, it didn't have a GPS antenna. I contacted the seller and they responded that the Q900 with GPS module is no longer includes a GPS antenna. The manual simply states that it should be an "active" antenna. Seaching Amazon I see many active GPS antennas with a SMA connector. They all seem to require 3-5 volts.
So far I haven't been able to obtain any information regarding what GPS antenna specifications are required. Does anyone have a GPS antenna that works properly on a Q900 v4 or what antenna would be recommended. Chris - KE8VOD |

开云体育I simply added an SMA antenna from an old home router. That did the job. The antenna is receiving signal only so it will be very easy to add.?Sincerely, Brian On Aug 25, 2023, at 14:16, Chris Groman <cgroman@...> wrote:

开云体育If the GPS application on the radio shows correct latitude, longitude and altitude then you have good GPS signal.?Sincerely, Brian On Aug 29, 2023, at 03:51, bitmanEV m0wao via groups.io <jobsbw-ham@...> wrote:

开云体育The compass menu option will spin until it gets a solid signal lock. I use a small router sma antenna to speed up signal lock. Then it will show Lat/Lon and altitude. My personal GPS module (early model) has an issue where the compass just just spins and never gives you a solid direction that the radio is pointing. I really don’t care because it’s basically a useless feature. Maybe useful for satcom perhaps, or using YAGIs etc.?Sincerely, Brian On Sep 25, 2023, at 15:29, bitmanEV m0wao via groups.io <jobsbw-ham@...> wrote:
