This group and that transceiver 2
Let's submit experiences and opinions of the Q900 SDR transceiver based on hands-on experiences. I have many which I hope to share and receive answers to some of the problems I have had making this rig do what the ads say it can do. I have seen amazing videos in Chinese and in Russian and in English which show the Q900 at work. Why doesn't mine do that? Do you have a good manual for the Q900? The oneI downloaded from the manufacturer's website, Version 2.2, leaves much to be desired. Anyone have one in Chinese? George, W9ZSJ

Progress of this group, 2/14/23 Happy Valentine's Day
Thanks for putting the group together. Question - are ALL Q900's problematic? I see lots of grim info on YouTube but I also see some videos where people are finding them to be fine. I just purchased on used on ebay and am hoping for the best. Thoughts? Bob KT8DX

Got my "new" used Q900 in the mail today 3
Got my new to me Q900 today. Initial impressions are that it is solidly built. All the buttons work. And I'm able to receive 20 m POTA stations. I have SW v 3.2.1 in it and the HW is V3.0. Is this all current as far as we all know? I am a technical writer by education and wrote professionally for many years. I'm thinking of developing a manual for this thing around "use cases". In other words, instead of documenting that this button does this and this button does that, I would write sections around "Operating CW on the HF Bands" or "Using local FM Repeaters". Maybe folks on his board who have been using this radio can suggest a list of topics for the manual sections I'd write. Thoughts and ideas are welcome! Bob KT8DX

CNSDR 2
I am using Beta 1. It works - mostly. Is there a manual floating around for this application, and are there any newer versions around? Bob KT8DX

Blue box or black box? 6
Hello, I have browsed through several offers for the Q900 from different shops on AliExpress and some display the Q900 with a black enclosure some with a blue enclosure. Knowing that the former Ailunce HS2 had a blue enclosure and roughly the same aspect as the Q900 I am a bit confused. Are these blue Q900's real Q900's? Does anyone have a clue? ARRL Intl DX CW Contest 5
Thinking of trying out the Q900 in the contest using N1MM. I think if I master the various filters and IF/RF gain settings thus could work. Am I crazy? KT8DX

Just purchased a Q900 from ebay (shudder) 12
Ok - been watching all the youtube videos both good and not-so-great. Found one on ebay from a reputable seller second hand. Hoping for the best and preparing for the worst. I'm an avid Xiegu fan, owning and having a lot of fun with my G106, G90, and x6100. We don't talk about the GSOC in the house anymore as things do tend to get thrown around a bit. Like George - looking for a better manual and what support places there are for this radio. The WhatsApp channel seems to have gone away. Bob KT8DX

Web links to Q900 info 8
The attached PDF contains a number of links to materials on the web which contain real information about the Q900. Many pages I have seen are just quoting ad material. None of those are listed here. Unfortunately, the best videos are not in English. We cold use a good Chinese ham who actually knows English. You should be able to click on the links to go directly to the site. The links are live. If you find similar (or better) sites, let us know and the list will grow.

DMR menu - what is CH_TYPE DFM? 6
In this menu, you have the choice of DMR and DFM. Can't find any reference anywhere to DFM. Anyone know what this setting does?

Keyboard Usage 7
I've been using a USB keyboard with my Q900 today. Made myself a cheetsheet about what each of the keys do. I didn't think much about keyboard operation, but it really does make operations a bit quicker and easier. Tuning around with the arrow keys is fast and slick, access to saved CW messages similarly quick, and the engineers seem to have picked the correct radio functions to be able to control from the keyboard - Power, band selection, filter bandwidth, RF IF and AF gain, mode, spectrum etc. Try it. One caveat - it might be my imagination, but the case might be getting a little warmer with the keyboard plugged in - if anyone else notices this let me know. The more I use this Q900, the more I like it. Bob KT8DX

Warning About Grounding
It is very important to ground this transceiver, if RF gets into the rig it will lock up, I have had this happen to me and the transceiver would not shut off (it was on internal batteries) I would suggest if one is confidant enough to solder a switch across the battery terminals to quickly shut off the rig in an lock up state. all the best, VE7KFX - Cory

[GRP] Testing a new group for general info about the Group
I would like to implement a scheme of standard groups to help keep messages organized. This is built in to 开云体育 with an algorithm that decides where to put your message if it relates to an earlier one. More about this later. This is a test.

[MAN] A sample entry for [MAN]. Did you know this?
I'd like to see more posts like this: *** FM Radio on [MENU] This is not described nor mentioned in the Manual 2.2: Set the mode to WFM Press [MENU] and navigate to the yellow [RADIO] spot at R4/C3. Audio level displayed by small speaker and controlled by up and down keys. However, each change requires toggling frequency as described below to get good quality. Press key FM dial appears with 5 numbers below for memory locations. Use < or > to tune to known FM station. Sometimes one must toggle off frequency and back to get on frequency correctly. To use 5 memory locations marked at bottom of screen: Press [SPLI} Press 1 thru 5 to select. Tune to F1 with < and > keys *How does one set the 5 frequencies?* Sound quality is excellent and volume range is OK for quiet room. To leave FM radio, press [MENU] to return to MENU display. Press [MENU] again to return to frequency display.

Firmware Version 3, Q900? 5
Any idea where to download the latest firmware? In trying to solve my no-transmit on VHF/UHF, I thought it would be on the USB stick, but it wasn't. So I downloaded what was said to be the latest firmware and put it on the USB stick, 'upgraded', but it turned out to be a version two firmware, which didn't improve anything, and on boot-up, shows that the gyro module is not detected! Now I can't find the Version 3 firmware! -- Bob, KL7EAL Los Angeles

Q900 not transmitting on VHF/UHF 6
Has anyone else had this problem? After all the confusion of finding an understandable and useful manual (it was in the USB dongle that came in the box, I thought that was for firmware-only so never looked on it), I finally have exhausted all options and cannot get the radio to transmit a usable signal on VHF or UHF. I can hear the transmissions on an HT in the room, but no real output, and the ammeter on my power supply for it shows only a slight increase in power being drawn, maybe half an amp, no matter the "PA" setting . In addition, the receive sensitivity seems to be a lot lower on those bands, and the UHF has a constant pulse noise on the one frequency I want to tune it to, even if nobody is on it. Has anyone else had this problem, or do I have a defective radio? Or worse, did I transmit before knowing which output, (SMA or PL259) is the proper port, and blew the finals on VHF/UHF? That is a possibility, I agree! In addition, here are the instructions from the 2.2 manual re: antenna ports usage: Optional DMR module 144MHz / 430MHz input and output from ANT1. Note:if optional DMR model. in 80 ~ 520 MHZ antenna 1, DMR and DFM mode for sending and receiving antenna interface.Frequency in 80 ~ 520 MHZ model for SSB, the CW, AM, WFM, (NFM), RTTY interface for TX.Antenna interface 2 in 100 KHZ ~ 80 MHZ frequency, mode for SSB, the CW, AM, WFM, (NFM), RTTY for incoming and outgoing interfaces.Antenna receiving frequency range of 2 to 100 KHZ to 2000 MHZ.For radio inside two rf amplifier, share the different frequency band signal amplification. So in 80 ~ 520 MHZ SSB, the CW, AM, WFM, (NFM), RTTY modulation mode, the antenna interface 1 as launch interface, 2 as receiving antenna interface interface, need to pick up two antennas at the same time. No optional DMR model ,not connect. Confusing, huh! To make matters worse, the picture of the back of the radio in the 2.2 manual shows ANT1 as the SMA port, but on the real radio Q900 version 3 I got, that is labeled Ant2! At any rate, neither output SO239 or SMA puts out any signal. I have the "FULL" version, with DMR, compass, GPS modules added. -- Bob, KL7EAL Los Angeles

Audio Out for beautiful sound 3
I hate the scratchy speaker on this radio but the audio out from the speaker jack seemed to be very low, having to turn it all the way up in the audio settings to get anything amplifiable. Then tonight I noticed that the headphone audio was perfectly fine if I unplugged the microphone that came with the radio! What? So then I was about to open up the microphone and disconnect the speaker in it, (it's a speaker-mic), when I noticed a tiny hole next to the wire going in! A headphone jack! So I plugged my little Anker blue-tooth wired speaker plug into that and Wahoo! Beautiful full-quality sound! So the speaker-mic was taking all the audio from the headphone output, and I'll probably disconnect the wire inside but for now I can listen to this little wonder like it had a large sound-system hooked up to it! After years of listening to SSB on older radios, it is a pleasure to hear SSB on these new radios, as you can set the bass in the audio settings to your taste. Many people have a pleasant bass component to their voice when in conversational mode on local 40-80 meter nets, so this is a big plus. That, plus the DSP settings and the radio begins to sound like the people are in the room with you! -- Bob, KL7EAL Los Angeles
