Re: Bluetooth and FT8cn
Rick N8SDR
In the FT8CN application there is an option to connect via Bluetooth. You have to use that.
Same for the QueBLE app that has to be connected from within the application itself.
It doesn't connect in the standard way that most Bluetooth devices do. There is pin code.

Use MSHV it doesn't disconnect
Used it for hours and never disconnected
WSJTX and JTDx always disconnect on the q900 MSHV does not!

SSB TX
Does anybody use their Q900 on SSB? VHF or HF. Both have the same problem. Extreme over drive. AM is fine as is FM. They all share the same audio chain I would think. The only difference is the balanced modulator for SSB if they even make SSB that way anymore. My first modern radio so alien technology to me.

Re: PTT jack on the back
Hi Bob. The radio provides a dry solid state active level low. What I do is put a micro relay on the back panel and an RCA plug like most radios. I never trust the solid state keying circuit. ?Real easy to wreck the key circuit. I drive an amp with mine and works fine. I can send pic of one I've done if that would help. Does yours TX on SSB? That's my issue. It is very distorted like the audio is slamming the balanced modulator to hard.

开云体育Great thank you Brian. My debut into modern radio’s. I do have a couple of questions. As you said probably a software issue. Does your sound good on SSB? Does your SSB squelch work?Dave

Re: Recommended GPS Antenna for Q900 (v4)
Brian C KJ7NYI
开云体育The compass menu option will spin until it gets a solid signal lock. I use a small router sma antenna to speed up signal lock. Then it will show Lat/Lon and altitude. My personal GPS module (early model) has an issue where the compass just just spins and never gives you a solid direction that the radio is pointing. I really don’t care because it’s basically a useless feature. Maybe useful for satcom perhaps, or using YAGIs etc.?Sincerely, Brian On Sep 25, 2023, at 15:29, bitmanEV m0wao via groups.io <jobsbw-ham@...> wrote:

开云体育Dave it has been my experience that most issues are softer related.?Each new release fixes 1-2 things, adds 1-2 things (they may or may not function), then they break two more.? They are promising a new binary in November. We’ll see…… But I wouldn’t beat your head trying to remediate SW issues with a HW fix.? That’s just my opinion man. Hold on until the next release, they will have had 7 months to bang on it, so hopefully it should be ok. I’m trying to be optimistic. ? Re: Bluetooth and FT8cn
开云体育Good to see activity even if I don’t know what your talking about. I’m a retired RF tech and my primary interest is the radio. I’m on # 3 now and about to send it back. They all seem to have a problem. Have you measured sensitivity and power out? The last two acted like the coax that runs from the SO-239 to the RF board weren’t seated all the way. But I didn’t want to break the seal. So I sent them back. Ordered another one and wish I’d fixed the other ones as the problem was simpler. The one I’m on now appears to have ALC issues. I tried changing the acoustics of the mic and padded down the audio leaving the mike. Adding a 220 ohm resister across the audio pad helps with the back ground noise. To no avail.Works good in all modes except SSB transmissions. To much drive! Anybody been through this? Does anyone have one that the SSB squelch works properly?I put in the latest firmware and the squelch works just takes about 50uv to open it and it has no delay. Needs a fast attach slow decay circuit. Think it’s a software issue? They say three’s a charm. I might try one more but so far I havn’t seen one make spec as a radio. I’m new here and don’t know if this goes through so would appreciate a response of any sort just so I know this is working. Even just a piss off mate would be good. Thank you 73 Dave

I have the same issue. I'd like to know how to find the correct PIN. But when I connected?with the QRadioBLE app it doesn't make me do any of that - no PIN required.
I'd like to use WoAD directly with the Q900 to do Winlink from my Android phone over Bluetooth.

The q900 radio has Bluetooth built in. My Android tablet sees this Bluetooth. But when I try to connect to it from my tablet it asks for the PIN. It suggests 0000 or 1234 but neither of these work. The FT8cn software claims that it can connect to the q900
radio via Bluetooth. However I'm at a loss as to how that can be when I can't get my tablet to connect with the radio via Bluetooth without entering the correct PIN which isn't listed in the user manual or anywhere else online that I can find. Do any of you
have any suggestions?

Q900 ALC
Let me know if this reaches you. I’m old and retired out of the communications field. I hired people to do the IT stuff so am now playing catch up. My computer skills are poor. I had to hire someone to get me onto your site. That said…….
I’ll keep it short to see if this works. I have bought three of the Q900’s. None work properly. The last one I feel is just a software issue. The main thing that I am chasing is it appears the ALC does not work or is extremely out of adjustment. I put a .01 across the cartridge thinking maybe it was RFI at first. Then padded the audio way down as the MIC gain seems to have no effect. It has the latest firmware. When I finally got a beautiful wave form and it sounded great I looked at the watt meter and realized I was only putting out a couple of watts before over drive. I have more but let's test the water. Thank you Dave Bohlen |
Q900
I’m old and not much on the computer. I’ve had three of these and all are broken. The last one I have down to an ALC issue for SSB. Can anybody help me? I updated the Firm ware and the rest of it works good. Done some mods to the mic and got that cleaned up but there appears to be no ALC? And compression works backwards? Would love to chat with someone about this radio. I see amazing potential if we could get the firmware correct.
