The Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat was established in 1972 by the Pacific Islands Forum to encourage economic and political cooperation between its member countries*, and between these states and other countries.

?

TRADE FACILITATION OFFICER

?

The Secretariat is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced person to work as Trade Facilitation Officer in the Trade and Investment Division.

?

The Trade Facilitation Officer (TFO) will report to the Director and will work closely with the Trade Policy Advisers and officers in the Trade Policy and Facilitation Unit of the Division.? The °Õ¹ó°¿¡¯²õ responsibilities will include:

?

¡¤assisting in the development of the Trade Facilitation Work Programme;

¡¤liaising with donors on funding of Trade Facilitation Work Programme;

¡¤reporting on the operations of bilateral agreements and options for their effective and efficient operation;

¡¤providing advice and regular information to FICs on tariff and customs policy, quarantine, standards and conformance, and associated matters;

¡¤research into the development and implementation of intra-regional trade agreements;

¡¤liaising with national and regional agencies;

¡¤other duties as directed.

Applicants must be citizens of Forum member countries* and should have an advanced tertiary qualification in trade, economics or other relevant discipline and at least 8 years relevant work experience.? They should also have a sound knowledge of international and regional trends in multilateral trade and familiarity with regional, sub-regional and bilateral trade agreements including trade facilitation issues.? Experience working in the international environment (particularly in the Asia Pacific region) is desirable as well as a sound understanding of issues and problems facing Forum Island Countries in relation to trade and investment.

The appointment will carry a competitive remuneration and benefits package including medical and life insurance provisions.? For non-Fiji citizens remuneration should be tax-free in Forum member countries*.? The appointment will be for three years.
