PACIFIC ISLANDS FORUM SECRETARIAT

VACANCY

The Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat was established in 1972 by the South
Pacific Forum to encourage economic and political cooperation between its
member countries*, and between these states and other countries.

DEVELOPMENT COOPERATION ADVISER

The Secretariat is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced person to
work as Development Cooperation Adviser in its Development and Economic
Policy Division.

The Development Cooperation Adviser will be accountable to the Director,
Development and Economic Policy Division for:
¡¤ ensuring effectiveness of mechanisms for appraising, monitoring and
evaluating donor assistance provided to, through or on the advice of the
Secretariat;
¡¤ the preparation of policy papers on regional development cooperation
issues and the coordination of regional development programmes;
¡¤ all aspects of organisation of regional meetings on development
cooperation issues;
¡¤ assisting the Director in managing and coordinating donors' regional
programmes administered through the Division;
¡¤ collecting and regularly disseminating information and analysis on key
development cooperation issues
¡¤ the effective representation of the Forum Secretariat at meetings; and
¡¤ other duties appropriate to skills and qualifications as required from
time to time.

Applicants must be citizens of Forum member countries*, should have an
advanced university degree in Development Economics or related field and at
least five years experience working on development cooperation issues and
associated development issues. Pacific experience is strongly preferred.
Extensive travel in the region will be required.

The appointment will carry a competitive remuneration and benefits package
including medical and life insurance provisions. For non-Fiji citizens
remuneration should be tax-free in Forum member countries*. Appointments
are normally for three years, with the option to renew for a further three
years.
