Location of Hull #

I am waiting for my survey report and getting pretty excited about being a PSC 31 owner. ?She¡¯s a 2005, currently in Norwalk, CT. ?I was wondering where one would find the hull number?
Thanks

Hull #

Hello,
Where would one find the hull # for the PSC 32?
Thanks

Original Lewmar 16 Halyard Winch for Sale

I have just finished installing an electric halyard winch (Harken Unipower 900) in place of my original Lewmar 16 Self Tailing halyard winch for my boom furling main.? ?I am going to post my old winch on ebay, but thought I would offer it up first on our owners site.? ?My boat, Discovery, is a 1990 PSC 31 and this winch is original equipment and is well maintained.

Yes I add soap also.
Helps with hoses too.

I flush my head with fresh water. Less stinky and the bowl does not get stained from tannin. The only exception to this is on the Bahamas. Water is always a concern despite my water maker.

?Most of our Pacific Seacraft Sailing Vessels have the ubiquitous GROCO HF head/toilet! I have often found that the head will flush when water is dispensed into the bowl, but will not draw water from the thru-hull! Dock mates of mine, the founders of Good Old Boat Magazine (Karen Larsen and Jerry Powlas), offered their solution to the problem. They wash their dishes in a tub and use the gray water to flush their heads with.

So, during my commissioning this spring, I thought I would try something similar. I also immediately had problems drawing water with the hand pump from the thru-hull: so I took some dish washing had soap and drizzled some down the pump handle shaft into the pump body! Voila - Merci the pump miraculously started working again.

Re: Stay Sail setup

I got a wonderful boat at a really great price because of a few odd choices the prior owner made like that. Not real biggies just things like changing canvas colors midstream and I know the liner thing freaked out the traditionalists.??

Cannot imagine someone painting the head liner...

Daryl, the previous owner of my boat painted the head lining and the zippers don't work for sure now - possible they didn't prior and that it why he didn't give a thought to painting them.? Otherwise, the headliner is in good shape and hoping I have no reason anytime to have to take any of it down.? I'll probably start with a set of blocks like you have for the sheets to start and add the cabin top tracks later.? I've already decided that when I do, am going to through bolt the tracks and have some stainless steel backing plates made for inside the cabin, leaving the liner in place.?

With the chrome port holes and lights so close, figure it won't look too bad.? May use backing plates with some welded loops for extra attachment points for 'stuff'.

Lots of great info here - am going to be copying some of your setup! - Vicki

Vicki,

Intuition also had pretty much unused hanked on staysail, with no deck hardware to support it - other than the tack fitting and tang on the mast!

I had a new staysail forestay made up with a Wichard quick release lever (they call it a baby stay adjuster). I built a fore-deck bag from materials acquired from Sailrite. I do have their LSZ-1 sewing machine, so the build was very easy.

The cabin top hardware for the main halyard and reefing lines were led through a Schaefer deck organizer back through rope clutches to a bronze single Lewmar #8 single speed winch (not sure if was a factory installation or owner/marina installed).

I purchased two new Lewmar ST16 bronze winches on sale from West Marine (2 for one) and several more Lewmar #8 bronze winches. Also replaced the original rope clutch starboard side and added one to port side with triple SPINLOCK XTS rope clutches. Installed a Schaefer marine stainless steel triple sheave deck organizer to port side cabin top.

The boat came with a single pad-eye port and starboard outboard of the deck organizer locations - I believe they were installed by owner/marina to test out the staysail; there was a stay, but not hardware to support it and it was too long to be fitted as a staysail stay - might have run to the mast head - as a Solent fore stay.

I use three lines for the two reef points on my loose footed main: one for each reefing point clew through the boom (through a Harken block, deck organizer, rope clutch, etc); and a line with quick release snap shackle for the tack reefing cringle, which I place on the correct reefing ring on the sail as needed. (Note, I am tempted to just route the Main Halyard to a new Lewmar #8 winch on the mast, it is much easier to raise the main at the mast! My two-cents...

The main halyard is run to starboard side cabin top. I use the Lewmar ST16's to service the lines in each rope clutch. I use a Lewmar #8 for the staysail sheet.

The roller furling 120% yankee halyard terminates on a Lewmar #8 and cleat on the mast .

The staysail halyard runs back to same setup on the port side.

I purchased track and cars for the staysail sheets, but not sure if it really buys you much, as the track is only 2 foot long; that is not installed yet, worried about how the screw holes will work above the head liner. For now, I just have a Harken block Port and Starboard? for the staysail sheets mounted on those pad eyes by the deck organizers. Staysail sheets are terminated to a carabiner for now, which is attached to the staysail clew when deploying the staysail. Looking at possibly adding a DOWN HAUL for the staysail - line to head of sail, this would allow me to drop the staysail and secure it without going forward, until I was ready.

The performance in heavier winds with the staysail is excellent, as she was designed to be cutter rigged! The sheeting angles in heavier winds with a sloop rig are not optimal, found I was lucky to trim to weather within 60 degrees to apparent wind with the yankee furled to the double reef point and the main double reefed in 30 + knot winds to weather.

With the staysail I get about 30 degrees to apparent wind - similar conditions with double reefed main and staysail alone.

My staysail also has one reef point, imagine that could get interesting. Though Intuition will hove to rather nicely.

I will post sole photos in my Album for Intuition...

I cannot imagine there being a down side to providing more ventilation in those areas- could also add some small computer 12volt fans to provide more circulation I would imagine.. build nice teak or other hardwood frames for them too.

Re: Groco HF - Toilet/Head

The Fisheries Supply website has both: warm and cool to choose from. The West Narine seem warm to me, they do not provide that characterization in the specs online.

Amazing difference in wattage required to power them.

Stay Sail setup

My boat came with a stay sail, cover, attachment point on the deck and mast, and wire.? No tracks.? I guess what I'm setting up is what I see the the main photo of this group.? Can anyone with this setup show me some pics so I can see more detail? Particularly interested in attachment points of the sail and how you are running lines aft?? My boat is setup so everything is running to the cabin.? Thanks much! Vicki? ?SV Bent Whisker, PS 31 Hull 55, 1990? Annapolis

Storage under seats inside the boat

I've had the boat long enough to be plagued by storage that I can't use so going to make some changes.? As I'm much better at deconstruction that construction, thought I may run these by y'all in case you've solved these problems already.

The storage underneath cushions in the boat.? As I'm living on the boat more than not, am on it in MD winter and MD summer heat.? Boat so well insulated that with heat and AC, get not a drop of condensation. However, stuff in these lockers go from freezing to rusting and have inherited wood covers that are going to be replaced sometime soon as they are splintering from 30 years of moisture.? I'm thinking about three round holes in front of each compartment and doing the same between the connected compartments- providing the opportunity for more air flow.? At some point, am going to Armaflex them (and paint white) along the inner hull as well.? Frequently flipping up the cushions and opening compartments not really a great option.? Is there a down side to this idea I'm perhaps missing?
