My 1990 has the water heater installed beneath the galley drawer cabinet, there are 2 drawers and a slatted door just to the right of the sink, below the cutting board. Engine coolant hoses run into the bilge and up to the Yanmar 3GM30F.

I exchanged email with Pacific Seacraft and they have also installed them behind the wet locker in the head.?

The original owner of our boat never installed a water heater. We may do so in future. Is there a standard location where the factory installed water heaters? Have people considered alternative places? Is the key having access to the engine cooling system? Thanks.?

Traditionally for the 31's we have been defaulting to the Kuuma brand hot water heaters. They have several 6-gallon sizes that come in various configurations which hopefully will match up with your existing setup. If they don't there is a company called Seaward that might be worth checking as an honorable mention as well.

They are both available through West Marine or a?local chandlery. I'd give them a look over and see if any work for your particular needs. If you have any additional questions please don't hesitate to give me a shout.

I checked West Marine and? the Kuuma water heater seems a tad large for the cabinet in Intuition:?
My measurements of the opening were 13.25 Wide and 13.5 high (this is the opening underneath the cabinet where the heater slides under the drawers)? - the depth seems reasonable.
As the dimensions listed are:?13 3/4" Width x 13 5/8" Height x 19 3/4" Depth

West Marine does have the Seaward:?
And its dimensions (13x13x19) should work and it is stainless steel.

Still like the idea of the built in mixer on the Isotemp SPA 15.

Hi Daryl. I've hull 55. On my list is to replace same in spring. I ripped my Atwood 4 years ago as when i bought boat, buildup made it unusable. Don't have my notes handy but remember thinking the Isotherm slim may be a good choice use in same cavity. Remember it was a bit pricey too. Am curious what water heater the PCS factory put in last 31 built or in their retrofits. Do? you know?

The original Atwood Hot Water Heater came to a sudden end over the winter. Since purchasing Intuition, our 1990 Pacific Seacraft 31, decommissioning of the hot water tank has seemed an iffy proposition. The drain petcock is only 1/4 inch and seemed to be consistently plugged for decommissioning. As with most water heaters the sediment build up can be a killer. I had been able to eliminate enough of the water for the last 3 winter seasons, by blowing compressed air into the drain petcock and slowly getting the bulk of the water out. This year seemed to have gone well also, but upon visiting Intuition this past week, I found the water heater to have been frozen (as evidenced by the change in shape of the outer shell!

Atwood no longer makes marine hot water heaters. The original was approximately 13" x 13" x 16 inches deep; another 3 inches of electrical and hose fittings for the fresh water intake and hot water output took up space in front of the water tank; a few more inches in the rear for connection to the engine coolant / heat exchanger connections. So overall dimensions about 21 or so inches athwart-ship mounting space required.

There are several similar shaped / sized hot water heaters in production by Seward, Whale and others.

I found an ISOTEMP SPA 15 - which is 4 gallons and an ISOTEMP SPA 20 which is 5.3 gallons. The tank is 316 stainless steel and the outer shell is polypropylene.? Tank diameter is 12 inches; the smaller SPA 15 is 18' in length and the SPA 20 is 12' in diameter by 21.6 inches in length. They both come with a mixer, which is a nice safety feature and also maximizes the water in the tank , while reducing chances of scalding. We have often found the water so hot out of the Atwood, it could burn you without adding in some cold water.?

Wondering if anyone has had any experience with the ISOTEMP or other HOT WATER heaters?

I had a crack in the rudder on my Dana. It was caused by water intrusion at the top of the rudder post; then freeze/thaw cycles over the winter.

I went to PSC because I had a crack in the rudder and water was getting in. One thing lead to another.
Rebuilt rudder, checked rudder bearings
New shaft and drippless shaft seal
New water hoses on engine
New exhaust elbow and exhaust hose?
Pulled fuel tank, cleaned and inspected?
Rebuilt all portlights
Moved radar dome to mass?
All new rigging

Gorgeous boat Hank!? If you are on a PC, you should probably see a panel on the left side of the page several MENU items including PHOTOS.

Navigate to the PHOTOS page/section and you should see an existing Album for Emailed Photos, as well as several others.

At the top of the ALBUM page is a BUTTON with New Album. Press it and create an Album for your vessel. Then use the ADD PHOTOS button to upload photos to the site (there is a drag drop capability, as well as searching for photos on your computer.

What hull number is your PSC 31? Please do take a moment and enter owner information into the database setup for that purpose. I for one, would be interested in hearing your refit history.

Andy Reeve. I have owned my 31 for around 6 years. Have traveled as far north as lake Ontario and south to the Bahamas. Presently hauled out for the winter in Southold NY on eastern Long Island. I have continuously updated equipment on the boat. I spent the winter of 2018 at the Pacific Seacrest factory in North Carolina getting a lot of work done. Love the boat. My wife and I plan to head north next spring to cruise the maine coast.
