Free large resonators (North Seattle) 3
Hi all, Long time lister Jerry G has been doing some storage cleaning and found the two mid "large" resonators that had been replaced by small mufflers on his long gone 87S4. These look pretty clean coming from a low mile S4 before being removed. They are available for free if anyone wants them. Note: These have been cut from the pipes, so it's just the two resonators. Pics below. Let me know and I can put you in touch with Jerry......otherwise they'll be heading to the recycler. P.S. date code of 07/86 for those of you that do that kind of thing :) .

Misfire from fuel injector? 6
I am tracing down a misfire. Occurs only at idle. Opening the throttle and it goes away. Last season I was chasing the same issue. New plugs. Tested and cleaned plug wires. As I understand it, the injectors have a screen in them that can get clogged. So, at idle, the standard fuel pressure is not enough to cause it to fire But when the throttle is opened, there is enough pressure to overcome the blockage in the filter and allow it to fire. Anyone had this happen to them?

Surging cold idle 9
Hey all, Back in the US. Got the car put of storage. 1979 with CIS. new injectors, fuel regulator rebuilt. Vacuum hoses replaced with silicon a few years back. I have a surging idle when cold. Normally, this is the AAV. I have tried pinching off the output hose, but it makes no difference. What else should I be checking? Cheers

Xpipe mod - flared ends 2
Howdy all, considering a wild hair (hare?) improvement the connection from the Xpipes to the cat back section by either heating with OA and flaring the pipes and eliminate the band clamps that are unsightly and seal half ass. Alternatively I could weld on two donor ends as well and flare out the Xpipe ends. I MiG welded the rear connection already to my high flow cats and eliminated the rear pair of clamps. I think the doughnut seals (928.111.246.05) and associated Dansk style clamp (928.111.427.00) would make for a quicker and more solid connection and look more Porsche. Dumb idea? Brilliant? I have an annoying exhaust leak which is minor to fix but can hear it. Good day at ERTC - German Car Day 8
Jason and I represented at ERTC German Car day. Beautiful weather and lots of great Porsches amongst other. I got there early enough to make the Center Circle area. First for my "10 footer" 928 that just rolled over 340,000km (approx 211,000 miles). When he put a yellow tag under my windshield wiper I was sure I was being relegated to the back room, so imagine my surprise when he said, follow the Mansory RSQ8 Audi to the Center Circle. !! Even saw Anthony (Sir Mix Alot) being pretty much incognito and ignored by most of the folks around him LOL. Cheers, Tom

85S running again 8
Finally got mine back together and running, but I still have a issue. Took it for a drive and have a vibration when accelerating, the reason I took it apart in the first place. I replaced plugs, plug wires, caps, rotors but something else is wrong. Backed it back into the garage and was going to check the new plugs to see if they are all firing, but the hood release handle popped off, the cable is not budging, so I can¡¯t get the hood open. I¡¯ll dive in at some point this weekend to try to get the hood open and plugs checked out, but what are your thoughts? Clearly a cylinder isn¡¯t firing, could it be injectors? In the Wild
Was driving South on 104 and saw a Red 928 driving North. Not sure if it is someone on this list or not. Not to often that I see another 928 on the road in the wild. In fact it has been a couple of decades in fat. Last one was in mid 2000's when I was at the Sharktober Fest. It was good to see one. David

Original WSM Documents 8
Does anyone in the Portland area have the original WSM documents that they'd let me borrow, so as to make new and improved scans of the wiring diagrams? I know this is sort of a big ask, but I'm willing to put in the time to get everything scanned and into an OCR'ed pdf. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers, Glenn

Hooked On Driving at The Ridge Thursday 6/6/24
So sorry everyone - I meant to send this note Monday and did not get it sent. Update: There is hardly anyone signed up for this event. Looks like it may be a total of only 9 cars combined on the track for the B&C groups - which we are planning on running together - so it will be 30-minute sessions instead of 20-minute sessions every hour. If you are an "A" driver (not Solo approved) there may not be enough spots left, but try to sign up if you are able - we may not have enough Coaches for additional "A" students. It will be a great day - Partly cloudy, 74F - Perfect for the track. My #41 Stock Car will be on track - new Clutch & new tires (with only one session on them) so hope to be really turning it on and seeing how it goes. If you are able to be free tomorrow/Thursday 6/6/24 sign up & come out for a great day! If you just want to "check out" Hooked On Driving" (HOD), come out, find me, and I will get you a ride with a Coach to see what The Ridge Motorsports Park is like in Shelton, WA. Keith R. Griots Garage Porsche Day (Sat June 1) 19
Caffeine and Gasoline Porsche day event at the Griots Garage store in Tacoma (S 38th St) this Saturday June 1. I'll try to be there unless it's a downpour. Forecast is showing some showers in the am, but it's early. Also supposed to be German Car day at ERTC but they will call it off if there's a 40% chance of showers forecast (they usually make the call on Thursday at some point). And a side note, Jeff Evans managed to get his 928 project (the one slated for a Maserati engine swap) into the showroom at Griots. So congrats Jeff and if folks are in the area, stop by and check it out. Griots Garage: 3333 S 38th St, Tacoma, WA 98409

Decided to do an engine swap on my 87 928, so the current engine is available, 153k miles. I believe it has GT cams in it, but I don't have any documentation to prove it. TB/WP was done in 2022. Come here it run and even drive it before it comes out. Car is at my mechanic up in the 7 Lakes area near Smoky Point. Price is $3k negotiable.

PDX car show @ Grant HS 5/19
For those who may be interested, a family friend¡¯s son is organizing a car show(not Porsche specific fyi). It¡¯s a senior class fundraiser. Elliott is a 928 fan, grandfather has a mint 914 and Elliott is a voracious student of things Porsche. His first car/truck is a F150 but am sure he¡¯s the next gen of Pcar owner in the making. 1979 & 1980 On PCarMarket 2
Has everyone seen the two 928's on PCarMarket this week? Only 1-2 days left on each. The 1980 has Phone Dials (15" however), Auto, low miles, looks pristine condition & a pretty good price for an Auto. The 1979 5-spd has "S" wheels, high miles and basically no bids - no reserve however & it looks like it will need some work. This is an Oregon car, but have no clue where it came from. Don't know if I have ever seen it before. Love the tan interior with a black 928 - wish mine had that. Just FYI. Door panels, switches, locks and such 13
Hi all, I've been lurking on our forum for quite some time as life projects have gotten in the way of 928 projects. Last week my right side window wouldn't return up to fully closed. Long story short I've replaced the switch, removed the door panel and refreshed the regulator, motor, and slider wheel/mechanism based on some great advice from MrMerlin on Rennlist. Before reinstalling the door panel I wanted to check to see if anything else should be done as "regular maintenance" since I had the panel off. So, getting to my (hopefully) simple question. Does anyone know how to secure the lock cylinder so that it's flush to the body of the 928? There's about a 1/8 inch gap as illustrated in the attached image. Mechanically, everything works great and It's been like this since I've owned the 928 but have never gotten around to fixing it. Many thanks in advance, and good to "see" everyone here again. Andrew

OB instrument cluster question time 5
Working on the pod/instrument cluster of the 79. Cleaned all the connections on the cluster with deoxit, and made sure there were no obvious breaks in the foil on the back. The foil seems to have been replaced at some point in the past as it's blue (not brown). Put it back in the 928 today and checked to see what's working etc. First try, all the gauges seemed to work and were responsive (including the previously non-functioning volt meter and oil pressure). Took it for a spin and speedo and odo still not working. Get back to check connections etc, and head back out, and on the second start up, the volt meter and oil pressure quit working. Also of note, on the first start, the ever present red "!" went away when releasing the parking brake and no warning lights in the cluster. On the second start (non-functioning oil pressure/volt gauges) I couldn't cancel or turn off the red "!". Questions for the group. Start with replacing the ignition switch? Just bite the bullet and get a new instrument cluster foil (or the new circuit board that's out there)? Any other potential culprits I should be looking at (like the sender for the speedo)? Any simple testing procedures for the gauges to see if they are DOA? and a final question: Checking the voltmeter when it was working it was showing up near 15 volts, which, when measured at the battery at the back (engine running) was about 14.5 at idle. Seems high for an OB? Haven't looked at the alternator yet, but is there an adjustable voltage regulator for the OB (I think Valeo) alternators? too high at idle? Don't really want to cook the new battery. Thanks in advance.........

Exotics at Redmond Town Center is "on" (Sat April 13) 2
Looks like stellar weather for Opening Day at ERTC. If you're not at the track with Keith, then head on over to Redmond. https://exoticsat.com/newsy/were-so-excited-to-say I won't make it this year (too many things to do around the house), but if you have the time, it's worth a visit. New stricter rules on getting in, but the 928 is usually accepted (as long as it's clean and presentable). Also, since this is opening day, you'll need to be there early (as in around 6am or so) if you want a space. Otherwise, park outside the area and walk in. I'm betting there will be some really cool cars there and with the weather being optimal and pent up need to get the cars out, I'm sure it'll be a great day. Tom
