Well, he had to get it out of there quickly, so it went to pick and pull.
Lesson learned....always keep on top of your timing belts (no matter the car) :D...

928 engine parts / engine / etc.

Hey everyone -
I've reached a project redirect point on my 928.
I'm replacing the engine with something other than the m28 engine.

Here's what I have. A running M28 4.5 16v in the car, you can hear it run. New timing belt, porkentensioner, hoses, head gaskets, oil pan gasket, delco alternator, water pump, new o2 sensor, lots of other new parts. 85/86 exhaust manifold, and a lot more on this engine. I'd like to sell this as a complete unit - basically a drop in for someone without an engine.

I have a lot of spare parts as well, it's a good chance I have a spare of something. engine fans, 16v oil pan, throttle bodies, intake plenums, fuel rails, injectors, etc.
I'm not looking to get rich off this stuff, but I do want to sell it to someone that can use it. I've got way too many 928 parts in the shop, and not enough room for them.
Parts are located in Tacoma.

The fronts are 944/951s but rears are the same. ?I have a set. ?I’ll post pics of them along with part number stampings?

It's currently at Pete Lea's in downtown Olympia.

Will check in with my son and see how long he has to "get it moved".

Stay tuned,

Tom

open to offers.....pick and pull says $300 and it'd be a shame to dump it there....

If I was closer I would consider this for sure.?

The head job on those cars is not a bad job at all.?

I thought people had talked about either these rims or another set of the same thing.? My comments below include this info and also my input on Track Tires for 928:??
  1. These are NOT 928 Club Sport Rims.? The rears are the same dimensions & offset, the fronts are not.??
  2. I believe these are 944 Club Sports.? The 928 Club Sport Fronts are 16x8 with 60 offset.? ?
  3. For track, 928 (with 16" wheels) should run 245-45x16" tires all around.? 928 is basically a 50:50 weight balance car.? The front will push a bunch with only smaller 225-50x16 front tires.? Although most tires say you need wider than 7" wheels with 245-45x16 tires, I ran that size on my S Manholes (7" and 8") and my Club Sports (8" & 9") and they wore and worked great.? For Track, best to run the Front & Rear Camber at -1.5 degrees.? This will make the tires last much longer.? You do not need that much for street, but car still drives great, but will wear off inside of front tires first, so keep an eye on that.? With "stock" 928 alignment in track use, tires will wear out twice as fast (on outside) as running -1.5 degrees camber.? This is not My Own Design - I believe it was first recommended by Motorsports in Utah, but told to me by "Middleman".? Using that setup, I doubled my front tire usage time/mileage.? ?I was very satisfied when I began using -1.5 on all 4 corners.? Again, this is using 245-45x16 tires on all 4 corners.??

Look well used, but a good deal for someone wanting to refresh them and a fairly decent price as I've seen the 7s and 9s go for around $2k lately.

Re: 81 tuning help

copy all so far.?
I have replaced the green wire and found that trimming was required.?
I do have a smoke tester coming to check for leaks.?
Following that, I will try and set the engine timing again. Shop manual gives a 3k rpm set speed, which is challenging when you're doing it by yourself.?

Regarding the Seattle drive, It was idling at 2k rpm the whole way up and back. Currently idling at 12-1500, but with significant issues cold running and misfiring under load. Especially?around 2500 rpm. I do have a new O2 sensor that I can install early next week. Working all nights this weekend, so time is a bit limited.?

Hi Jeff,

Not a L-jet expert by any stretch, but your issues sound like vacuum leaks.? That's where I'd start, and then go back and check the timing and also the "green" wire.? Not sure if yours is new or old.. Have heard that some new replacements are faulty.?

You did get it up to Seattle, so is it running worse now, or was it a challenge to drive the whole time?
Tom

81 tuning help

Hey all,?

I'm still having some challenges with the 81.? I've been at it too long and need to raise the help flag.?
Issues are mostly running/tuning related. Car idles high, skips and misfires under load, and generally runs but randomizes how well it does.?
Willing to pay for some help to get this part sorted out, kinda at the end of my rope with this build and the consistent challenges.? Located in tacoma.?
