Subject: update on one of Sunday's topics

Hello, Kristen

I heard that the rally planned for Social Security Fairness (to be passed in the Senate) will take place on December 11, not Monday, December 9.?

Some of the pressure, at least, is on Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. I have heard about efforts to persuade/urge him to bring the measure to the floor for a vote, where it may or may not have enough votes at this time, notwithstanding the nominal support of 62 Senators. I also saw this comment in U.S.A. today, a recent issue:

>? ? A spokesperson for Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) responded late Sunday to USA TODAY saying the Act is “a high priority to get done this year.” That's the first time I heard about his opinion on the matter.

Schumer himself could use a procedure to bring the bill to the floor, bypassing the (Finance) committee.

One other strategy I've seen suggested. Attaching this bipartisan measure (S. 597) to a must-pass piece of legislation, such as the Defense Authorization Bill.??

Senator Angus "King said he remains hopeful the bipartisan bill will get attached to a??like the National Defense Reauthorization Act and pass."

And a final quote:

“It is shameful that such a widely supported measure has yet to be scheduled for a vote,” said Susan Dixon, 68, retired schoolteacher in San Clemente, California, and president of the California Retired Teachers Association. “I will be at the rally to ensure our voices are heard and to demand action for the millions of retirees who deserve fairness and respect. It is also critical that our Senators are present for votes the next two weeks.”

Best regards,?
