Re: OAEF website questions

Great idea to include the powerpoint!?

And we could also have a resources page.?

This is the website I created for Adult Ed Sustainability -

You can see that sometimes I provided links to Google Docs - that makes it easier for me to update things.?

There was a short discussion about the OAEF website at yesterday's meeting. Last year when Kristen and Amy went to the convention in LA, I quickly created the website because was registered by someone else. But now is available, and I just registered it.

In general, the .org domain extension indicates a non-profit, which OAEF definitely is. Being a non-profit isn't a legal requirement for a site -- i.e., it doesn't have to be registered as a 501(c)3 -- but it generally is an organization that isn't a profit-making company by design. For future reference, here's Forbe's general info, potential expense, and legal requirements for NPOs:

So now... what should be on the website? Any mission statements, goals, general thoughts? Something else?

Hope you're having a good holiday off. It's been dreary all morning in lower El Cerrito, and its just now getting relatively sunny. Think I'll go do some errands.

Asm Damon Connolly had this to say on May Revise and Budget:

From Connoly on Budget

  • May Revise coming out in about a week

  • Maybe 30 billion in the red - worse than anticipated

  • Wildfire funding intact

  • Education solid

  • Climate and transit - taking hits

  • There’s a lot of money out there - already allocated

  • This budget will be still be big but less than anticipated.

  • Working with proposed cuts and seeing what is doable.

  • The Fair Plan - the state back up plan - is inadequate

  • Covers primary residence - could be mobile home

  • Rural counties getting hit hard by these issues

  • Question about intersection of affordable housing and fire safety and quake safety

  • Transit getting cut in the budget right now

Maybe this is what it takes for community colleges to start being interested in older adults again (though it sounds like job-related courses, not dance, art, or languages!).

Hi, Kristen and Cynthia,

I thought?“maybe" some of the OAEF group might be interested in these seminars, especially about lobbying and influencing public policy --
but then I realized they are charging $60 to attend each of the webinars. ?Maybe you know someone with extra time and money on their hands!
Maybe it costs less if you are a member (but then they will probably bug you for money, forever!).
One of the webinars is for people with a (501) (c) (3) organization?— which maybe would pay for the training!

Just passing it along to see what you think.?

?
Upcoming Public Webinars
May 2023 | ONLINE | $60 for Non-Members?
May 4 | 2 PM ET | $60
After this workshop, you will have a clear understanding of?what?advocacy?activities your 501(c)(3) can engage in,?what communications count as lobbying, and how to maximize your non-lobbying advocacy.?
?
May 23 | 2 PM ET | $60
Social media?has the power to further your reach, your story, and ultimately, your mission.?If your organization uses Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat or any other social media platform, this workshop is for you!
?
May 24 | 2 PM ET | $60
If your organization is gearing up to engage in coalition work with multiple types of tax-exempt organizations, this workshop will help explain how to?do so?while staying in compliance with the law.?
?
Can't make it this month?
?to see more events happening in 2023!
