Dear Marilee,
So glad you are interested in the meeting info that Donna Frankel sent me!
It¡¯s unfortunate that these issues affect more than one community college --but it makes sense to form larger coalitions and fight the trends! ?Stronger together!

Dear Linda,
? ?Thank you for sending the notice about the upcoming meeting on Sept. 7. ?I would definitely like to
attend as a member of OAEF and?
also as a member of HEAT, Higher
Education Action Team from CCSF.
CCSF¡¯s concerns regarding tiers
for faculty are the same and it appears to me that forming larger coalitions around this issue is essential if faculties expect change.

Hi Linda,

Our two faculty groups are in my mind working on some of the same issues of pay, working conditions, etc. and thought you and/or someone from your group might like to attend our next meeting. I will get you the URL for the zoom on Tuesday, but out meeting is this Thursday, Sept. 7,? from 10-11:30 am.? CFE is the Campaign for Faculty Equality, and our main thrust is that the community colleges need a one tier system for all faculty, instead of the present 3 tier system.? We currently have 20% full time (FTF) tenured faculty, PTF (part time faculty) who have far fewer benefits, certainly no sabbaticals or fabulous medical, dental, eye care, etc. nor offices, computers, etc. plus teach whatever is left after the FTF select what they want to teach.? Our 3rd tier is noncredit courses for older adults, disabled, etc. and they make slightly more than half what PTF make in for-credit, up to now haven't had paid office hours, nor much of any benefits other than sick leave, and no academic freedom, etc.

By advocating for one tier--all would be paid on the same pay scale based on the amount they taught, all would have proportional identical benefits, all would have some job security--which PTF and non credit faculty don't have at all, and all would have academic freedom.
We have started a major movement with unions, academic senates, and FACCC (faculty association of CA. Community Colleges) all deciding they need to do something to take us seriously, as this becomes a real movement across the US.

Anyway, let me know if you can make the zoom or if someone else from your org would like to be invited to see how we are doing this, where we are going with it, etc.
Thinking of you,
Donna
