Someone mentioned there is an organisation or service that has fruit and vegetables suitable for shmita and delivers. Do you know anything about this? If so, I am interested to hear more details and contact information.

The store near us does not have mehadrin standard and uses a system we don't hold by. We are not traveling due to Covid what options are available

Many thanks

Shavua Tov to all.

I have been trying to get the word out about a father and son in Jerusalem we have been trying to help.

I can send letters from Rabbis Berel Wein and Zvi Schwartz about the family, and both are happy to speak on the phone about this terrible situation. Please contact me for details.

The group moderators ask me to keep it short, so I will try my best. If anyone wants more details or information, please email me and I will explain more if needed.

This is a father that is very ill with a son in a special school. The father worked for a company outside of Israel that went bankrupt, owing him a very large amount of money, which put him in serious debt.

They are alone, just the two of them, with no other family to assist them..

The father's health problems are getting worse. He is running around to different doctors and taking many tests in Hadassah, including his heart, lungs, liver, intestines and nervous system. He is in pain all the time, and does not sleep. He also has pains in his back, legs, and feet. He has vision problems, and has lost most of his teeth. It is heartbreaking to see this once strong man. He looks ten years or more older than his age.

The constant stress of the financial problems is making things even worse for his health.

They are in danger of having their electricity disconnected at any moment.? This is also the time of year they needed to renew their rental contract and their landlord would not renew their contract unless all bills and rent are paid. They paid part, but still owe more. They must stay in this apartment. They have nowhere else to go plus the boy's school is nearby.

This is a very nice man who always helped others, and now desperately needs help. We are trying to give him some peace before the Holidays so he can focus on his health and enjoy the Chagim.

Please kindly help them.

Please email to me with the donation details if you donate so we can get them the money faster, and also please help us pass this on to any friends and contacts that may be in a position to help.

There are American and Israeli charities accepting donations online for them. It is also possible to help through their local grocery store or by bank transfer to friends helping the family. Please contact me for details.

For USA tax deductible receipts, the Bayswater Neighbors Fund has a website to donate. I will write the link below. If anyone prefers to send a check, please email me and I will send the details.

Right above the SUBMIT button on the donation form is written "My contribution is for:" and then they have a drop-down menu to choose where the donation will go. Important to choose, "Family in Jerusalem", and push Submit button once.

This is very important or they will not know to whom to give the donation. Please also email me if you donate so we can follow up.
Here is the link.

For Israel donations/receipts, please see the link below. It is VERY IMPORTANT to write FUND 2110 in the comment box or the donation will not go to the family and to email me if you donate so we can follow up. Here is the link for the Mekimi organization donation page.

Then click on

"Secured donation by credit card" and please remember to write FUND 2110 in the comment box.

About zoning and new construction in Mirkaz Ha'Ir to attend.

Did anyone attend the planning meeting with Ofir Lang in August. I was unable to?

Is there actually a plan for the streets bordering on Rehovim Narkis, HaMaalot King George and Shmuel Ha Nagid?

I am hearing bits and pieces.

I have concerns about the pace of development, tearing down? viable? buildings and replacing them with high ones many more than the 6 or 7 that exist now.

Please let me know about the meeting. Perhaps a few of you would be interested to? follow this development?? You are welcome to post to any neighborhood watts app? group.?
I am not a member of the Nachlaot one. Perhaps there is already a wattsapp group concerned with the environment in City Center.

Re: HELP!! I'm Drowning in Books

I started to do this in the merit of my late father. Had to put on hold due to moving. If you figure out how to raise money to do a library in the merit of a parent, please let me know.

Also be careful about what seforim you accept. We got inundated with bad quality, musty books and books not suitable

D'var Torah from Rav Fanger

A man walked into the Interior Ministry and asked to have his name changed for the New Year.
The clerk asked: "Why do you want to change your name?"
Said the man: "Because everyone laughs at me."
"OK,? what's your name?" Asks the clerk.
"Joshua Flotzka," the man said.
The clerk tried to hold back her laugh. With difficulty, she said with a straight face, "And what would you like to change your name to?"
The man answers: "Nachum Flotzka? ."
A new year, new beginnings. This is an optimum time for change, but sometimes we are not so successful.
This week's Torah portion begins with the action - "????" - "Went"
?"???? ??? ????? ?? ?????? ???? ?? ?? ?????..."And Moshe went and spoke these words to all of Israel"
What does " Moshe went" mean? Where is he going? It would be sufficient to have written "and Moshe will speak these words" ...?
The sages explain that Moshes' words to Israel were always geared towards progress, movement, productivity - "will go" - to go and ascend all the time. What then do we do if past thoughts remind us of who we once were?
There is a story told of a righteous person who repented and mended his ways. He went to the Maggid of Mezrich z"l, to lament, that the thoughts of his past do not give him rest.
The Maggid told him: There was once a Jew living in Poland, and he owned a pub that was adjacent to his house. Every day the locals would visit him to drink until they got drunk and defile his place with their vomit. Not only that they would also break his chairs, cups, and bottles. The pub owner had enough of this trouble and decided to close the pub and turn the place into a clothing store. Once in the middle of the night some drunkards came, and started knocking on the door of his house shouting -
"Jew, let us have a drink, open up for us, we are looking for good wine".?
The Jew heard their shouting in the middle of the night and ignored their wails, did not get up or move. - They did not let up, they, kept knocking again and again on the door of his house. Eventually, he called back to them from behind the locked door -?
"I no longer own a pub, there is no wine here, and no beers, you have nothing to look for here anymore. From now on you will only find clothing here. The Maggid concluded
?"This is the way to deal with all kinds of bad thoughts. We do not quarrel with them, do not start a conversation and discussion with them, but simply decide - to open a new page. Recognize you are no longer the same person".
?Even if the thoughts from the past knock on the door and try to remind us of who we were - do not get dismayed or discouraged, do not let them in. They may come back again and again, but eventually, they will leave.?
We have opened a new year, do not let past thoughts drag you backward. No matter what happens, the main thing is to continue - "will go"."????"?
Keep in mind- every new endeavor takes time. Only if you keep pushing forward and do not give up will you reap the benefits.
Shabbat Shalom
?Rav Yitzchak Fanger

SEFER CHOFETZ CHAIM

Day 3 ¨C Lack of commitment
?
It is forbidden to say that an individual lacks commitment in fulfilling a particular commandment. Therefore, it is forbidden to say that a man sets aside little time for daily Torah study, or that he does not go out of his way to help others.
???????????
This would apply even if the speaker and listener themselves study little or are not known for their benevolence, and will openly admit to this without shame. Since the Torah commands us to make Torah study and chesed performance priorities in our lives, it is forbidden to say that someone else lacks dedication in these areas.
?
?

SEFER SHMIRAS HALOSHON
?
Purpose of This Volume
?
There are many factors which can cause a person to speak loshon hora. The three primary factors are:
?
(1) A lack of awareness of what a Jew is and is not permitted to say. It is in response to this that we have compiled Sefer Chofetz Chaim, which is a code of laws of proper speech.
?
(2) Satan¡¯s powerful efforts in this area, as he seeks to indict us Above and to cause our prayers to be rejected (as stated in the holy Zohar, which will be cited in a forthcoming chapter).
?
(3) Ignorance of the methods through which one can succeed in avoiding the urge to gossip. As Scripture states, ¡°For with strategies shall you wage war for yourself¡± (Mishlei 24:6).
?
It is in response to the second and third factors that we have authored this work (Sefer Shmiras Haloshon), a compilation of Aggadic teachings from the Talmud, Midrash and the holy Zohar, which speak of the great reward, in this world and the next, for guarding one¡¯s tongue, and of the retribution that can result from the terrible sin of speaking loshon hora.
?
We have also labored, with the help of Hashem, to compile from the thoughts of our Sages many methods and suggestions for how to escape the snare of the sin of loshon hora. It is our hope that this will inspire and aid the reader to overcome his inclination to speak the forbidden, so that he can develop the precious, sterling quality of shmiras haloshon.
?
Because this present work contains many topics that are of vital interest, it is therefore exceedingly precious to me. Therefore, I have given it a title of its own,1 Shmiras Haloshon, based upon the verse,? ¡°One who guards his mouth and tongue, guards his soul from tribulations¡± (Mishlei 21:23).
?
  1. I.e. Though this compilation of Aggadic teachings and insights is actually another section of Sefer Chofetz Chaim, the author gave it a title of its own.

Day 1 ¨C Loshon Hora: A Definition
?
?
Loshon Hora (lit. evil talk) is defined as information which is either derogatory or potentially harmful to another individual.? A derogatory statement about someone is loshon hora, even if it will definitely not cause that person any harm.? To focus on the shortcomings of another person is itself wrong.
?
A statement that could potentially bring harm to someone ¨C be it financial, physical, psychological or otherwise ¨C is loshon hora, even if the information is not negative.
?
(It should be noted that the term loshon hora refers even to true statements which are derogatory or harmful.? Negative statements that are untrue or inaccurate are termed hotzaas shem ra, slander.)
?
?
?

SEFER SHMIRAS HALOSHON
?
Food for the Soul
?
¡°One who guards his mouth and tongue, guards his soul from tribulations¡± (Mishlei 21:23).
?
¡°Which man desires life, who loves days of seeing good? Guard your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking deceit...¡± (Tehillim 34:13-14).
?
Why do the above verses single out shmiras haloshon, guarding one¡¯s tongue, as the key to a good life in both worlds?
?
The human body is composed of 248 organs and 365 sinews. Corresponding to this are the 248 spiritual organs and 365 spiritual sinews of the soul. As Scripture states: ¡°You clothe me with skin and flesh, cover me with bones and sinews¡± (Iyov 10:11). The various parts of the body are referred to as ¡°clothing¡± and ¡°covering¡± for they clothe and cover the soul within man. Each physical organ corresponds to a specific aspect of the soul.
?
Hashem has given us 248 positive commandments and 365 negative commandments which relate to the particular parts of the body with which they are performed.1 By performing a given mitzvah through a given organ, a spiritual light comes to rest upon the corresponding component of the soul; it is from this light that this component draws eternal vitality.
?
Thus, when a person fulfills all the Torah¡¯s commandments, he transforms himself into an adam hashaleim, man of spiritual perfection, whose every fiber is sanctified unto Hashem.
?
The converse is true as well. If a person commits a transgression and does not repent for it, then the component of the soul which corresponds to that prohibition will suffer accordingly.
?
1. See opening introduction to Sefer Chareidim.
?

?
Keep reading Day 2, the lesson for Rosh HaShanah day 2
SEFER CHOFETZ CHAIM
?
Day 2 ¨C Breach of Halachah
?
It is forbidden to relate that someone has been remiss in matters of Jewish observance ¨C be it a transgression prohibited by the Torah, a rabbinical prohibition, or even a breach of custom. Such statements are derogatory by the Torah¡¯s standards and thus are forbidden.
?
Therefore, it is forbidden to mention an incident in which one of the people involved transgressed a halachah, even in a society where that particular halachah is commonly ignored.
?
?
?

SEFER SHMIRAS HALOSHON
?
The Essential Quality
?
It is every person¡¯s hope and prayer that he or she be healthy, that every organ of the body function as it should. Similarly, it should be every person¡¯s hope and yearning that his or her soul, which lives on eternally, be spiritually healthy. It is therefore imperative that one strive throughout his lifetime to faithfully observe all 613 mitzvos, which provide the components of the soul with eternal life and vitality.
?
Shmiras haloshon is especially crucial to one¡¯s spiritual wellbeing. People who habitually speak loshon hora, and accept as fact the evil talk of others, corrupt their power of speech and hearing in this world ¡ª and their souls will surely be affected in a parallel way in the next world. How great will be their shame in the next world! For it will be obvious to all that their deficiencies resulted from the sin of loshon hora and their having been the cause of strife on this world.
?
The Torah states: ¡°And Hashem (God) formed man from the dust of the ground, and He blew into his nostrils the soul of life, and man became a living being¡± (Bereishis 2:7). Targum Onkelos translates the verse¡¯s last phrase as, ¡°and man became a speaking spirit.¡± It is the power of speech which defines man¡¯s essence and distinguishes him from other creatures.
?
Thus does Scripture state: ¡°One who guards his mouth and tongue, guards his soul from tribulations¡± (Mishlei 21:23). Shmiras haloshon is singled out because speech is man¡¯s essential quality. Impairment of this power deprives the soul of its essential quality in the next world and is the source of its ultimate tribulation.
?
David therefore declares, ¡°Which man desires life, who loves days of seeing good? Guard your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking deceit...¡±
?

The most beautiful painting, as well as long journeys, are made up of many brush strokes, and many small precise steps. Step after step, heel after heel, a drop of paint followed by another drop, until the painting appears in its entirety and in all its glory. The road to Rosh Hashanah is long and full of obstacles. Many stains cover a person's sheet, and he has to work to remove?the?blemishes and mold his Rosh Hashanah. The journey is long, yet short. One small step, step by step,?is the beginning of the long journey? One?brush stroke joining the other until the painting is complete.
Each and every person creates his or her own Rosh Hashanah.

Take upon yourself a?positive resolution?for Rosh Hashanah, a?positive action,?behavior, one mitzvah that you may have neglected last year.?
Let?us?come?to Rosh Hashana?with a "gift" in hand for?the upcoming year may it be filled with only good. May it be His will that we are?privileged to be written in the book of the righteous immediately for a good life and peace out of faith, joy, unity, and love.

Hiding from Supplicants

Said the Koretzer: "It is the royal etiquette that if guilty persons succeed in seeing the King, He pardons them. To prevent wholesale pardons, the King hides himself from the supplicants. It is thus with the King of Kings: He conceals Himself on the Judgment Day and we seek for the key which will open the door to the place of His hiding. We try our customary prayers, our hymns amd special prayers, the blowing of the shofar, and the varied intonations for the reading of the Torah. And when the traditional keys have all beeen used, one of them will surely open the hiding place of the Lord."
