TIME TO REGROUP AND RENEW YOUR COMMITMENT - TO YOURSELF
--Judy Flynn |
开云体育So, it’s time to get real. ?Apologies in advance for the rant, but this appears to be one of those nights where sleep will elude me and I’ve had this on my mind, so I’m just going to over-share as usual.
My hormones are making me crazy, my hips and unrepaired knee are killing me and, before we started this group, I weighed in at my heaviest weight ever. ?Nothing fits except what Jay diplomatically calls my “middle aged Carrie Fisher
look” wardrobe and it’s adding to my stress. ?I gave my assistant’s daughter 15 pairs of very nice heels that I realistically will not be able to wear any time soon. ?Looking at them collecting dust on my shoe rack was bumming me out.
My goal is to show up in DC and be able to be on my feet as much as I need to without having to resort to prescription anti-inflammatories. ?If I fit into the gorgeous dress I originally bought for Ft. Worth, that would be an added
bonus.
This week, Jay added an additional longer range goal - a trip to Cuba for an archeological conference in the late summer of 2021. ?Kicking off our empty nest and our 25th wedding anniversary in style at a beach resort. ?I want to
be back in a swimsuit by then!
I’m going to start with the basics - tracking what I eat and getting my fat ass on the Exercycle for 1/2 an hour 3x a week.
I have my physical scheduled next week, so hopefully my doc will be able to help with the plan. ?I have a feeling my insulin is out of whack again and I may need meds to get it back under control.

Jen,
First of all, I'm sorry that you aren't sleeping well and have various ailments bugging you, but I applaud you for laying it all out there to make yourself accountable to make change.? I hope you have WRITTEN in your cycle appointments on your calendar for three days per week, and that you will hold those times sacred for YOU.? If you have not, I am urging you to, because they will not happen if they are not given the same priority as those appointments that will otherwise override the Jen time. Second, you CAN do it ... you can feel better and less stressed walking around in DC ... I don't know if the dress is a realistic goal or not as I know nothing about it, but I suggest you HANG IT UP where it is visible to you first thing every morning, and the last thing you see every night.? Whether it is in DC or not, You will get in it.? And, you will look fabulous. Third, these shorter term goals will help you to achieve that most incredibly goal of being comfortable on the beach in CUBA (!!!!) for your 25th anniversary.? And, let's face it - the reason you will be celebrating your 25th anniversary to a great guy is because he can diplomatically refer to your fashion as your “middle aged Carrie Fisher look”?and still be alive.? He says it with love.? It could be worse - what if you weren't a Star Wars fan?! Please hold yourself accountable here for your three weekly cycles - they are important and must start now for all of the above reasons.? You can do it!!? -- Judy Flynn |
开云体育Greetings All; Frist, I want to thank Judy and others who thought up this idea.? I have not been writing much but knowing you guys were out there has been motivation.? Jen, how did your week go?? I hope Well.? So I wanted to let my supporters know that September has been mostly dry and Mark and I are firmly in out Keto diets. ??Some results but nothing exceptional yet. Here is to all of us, being better images of our selves by Washington.?? Cheers (with sparkling water and raspberries) to one day at a time. ? Bobbi K. Flowers

BRAVO Bobbi!? Thank you for sharing and congratulations on your mostly dry September and sticking with your KETO plan.? Nice work!??
I've been up and down like a yo-yo and my goal is to stop going back up ... what was the old yo-yo trick - walk the dog?? I want to get down and stay down. My first goal was to lose 7 pounds by the falmouth road race (aug 22) and I did reach that goal.? But then I laid off the workouts, and then I pulled out my back - a few weeks later and I regressed almost the whole way back.? So frustrating!? I've had a few chiropractic appointments and it is getting better.? I've upped my Orange Theory Fitness membership to unlimited and signed up 3 days per week (4 days some weeks) for the next several weeks. I PLAN TO WEIGH MYSELF MONDAY MORNING AND WILL COMMIT MY PLAN TO WRITING AT THAT TIME - WHAT I WILL DO TO ACHIEVE MY SUMMIT GOALS.? I WILL REPORT BACK HERE, AND I HOPE TO HAVE MORE OF YOU POSTING HERE TO SUPPORT ONE ANOTHER. Jen - hope you survived the physical and have some tangible next steps as a result. Bobbi - please let us know what is good/bad about Keto. EVERYBODY ELSE - WHERE ARE YOU???????????????????????????????? -- Judy Flynn |
开云体育So, the week and the physical went okay. ?The good news is that I’m off my blood pressure meds. ?The bad news is that I’m back on the insulin ones. ?And apparently, the 44 oz iced tea I get on my way to work every morning does not
count as drinking water. ?And, apparently, even if it did, that’s not enough for a day. ?So, I have a new goal - 64 oz of water a day. ?Yikes!!
Another yikes - I started this whole adventure tracking my calories and trying to lose some weight. ?Nothing happened. ?We started this whole dry September thing and I’ve lost 7 pounds. ?I wonder why??

Nice job, Jen!? Try adding some lemon slices, cucumber slices, or any other things you like for a splash of flavor.? If you google it, certain things you might add to water have other beneficial effects besides adding some flavor. |
Jen - i LOVE that you put it all out there. Way to go! I second Judy's recommendations on putting cycling on your calendar. My workouts are very important to me and they are on my calendar. The members of my firm (who shall remain nameless) are in no way supportive of exercise unless it occurs at 5 am or 9 pm. However, it is important to me so I do it - despite the negative impact it has on my position in the firm. At the end of the day - a healthy lifestyle and time with my family and NAELA peeps are more important than the money!
Bobbi and Judy - it sounds like you all are committed and getting somewhere. Nothing happens overnight - just keep on and believe in yourself. I'm not dry - not even close! But, I have cut down and gone back to major calorie restriction. AND I haven't touched the "emotional support" tub of frosting that my staff put in the Virginia Beach office fridge for me in weeks! I personally have gained 20 pounds since January of 2017 and my goal is to lose them and be back to the size I was that winter. More to come! I love reading everyone's messages. By the way, for a little inspiration - check out You Tube videos of my favorite Peloton instructor - Cody Rigsby. He makes me smile every time - even when I want to absolutely due on the bike - and he is motivating to love yourself! Happy Friday everyone! Letha |
开云体育You’ve got your priorities straight Letha!? Way to go despite the office politics.? As for me, well, I am dry this month, but it was forced.? When I was returning home from Hilton Head to avoid Hurrican Dorian the stress of packing up our home, getting the family out safely with the evacuation, dealing with flight cancelations at the airport, while wearing a heavy backpack with my office computers and all of my dog’s supplies in case we were stranding in Savannah for the week caused my right neck, scapula, shoulder and arm to seize.? So, in the past two weeks I’ve had about 7 hours of sleep in between sever nerve pain.? Finishing a round of steroids today, heavy muscle relaxants and intense physical therapy and I can finally start to see a little light at the end of the tunnel and hopefully be pain free.? I’ve got an MRI for the cervical area scheduled in a couple of weeks to see if this resulted from a disk issue – we’ll see.? Anyhow, trying to stay on track with diet despite this.? Letha, like you, I gained 20 lbs since I lost all that weight years ago – that will come off so I can get back to 168!? May take longer since my exercise is limited for now.? ? Michael J. , ? ? Jen, the flavored seltzer waters are also a good way to get hydrated.? I love the Spindrift brand.? Getting off the blood pressure meds is really good.? I am really trying to do that for myself.? ? ? ? ?I knocked out a colonoscopy and mammogram in the same week so I was happy to get those things off of my plate.? ?I have been pretty good at keeping up with my three days a week at the gym.? ?Aside from the health benefits, it also forces me to leave work at a decent time on gym nights.? ?I also really make a point to take at least a short walk during lunch to get in a few more steps.? ?I am still struggling with getting more sleep during the week.? ? No matter how tired I am during the day, I cannot seem to get to sleep before 11:00 p.m.? We are definitely trying to cut calories and watch what we eat.? We really look at labels and try to avoid eating processed foods and foods that are high in sodium.? I have barely had any alcohol all summer and I don't miss it.? Overall, it is definitely helping to have the group support to keep me motivated.? ?? On Fri, Sep 13, 2019 at 10:19 AM <lmcdowell@...> wrote: Jen - i LOVE that you put it all out there. Way to go! I am so excited that more of you are joining the conversation!? It really is so helpful - I urge all others that signed up for this group to join in.? I've scheduled my OTF workouts for M, W, and F at 6 am, for the next month.? I'll add what I can on the other days, but these appointments are my time and non-negotiable.? Since we started this, I got caught up on my medical appointments (mammogram, dental, etc. - physical is every november).? I had all my routine dental work done in one sedation visit - had to take a day off, but well worth it.? Now I'll take care of other dental stuff over time - that was a big one off my list since I have a fear of the dentist and always go back once or twice and then disappear for another two years... not good.? But, it's checked off!? :)? Great job Letha with your commitment to you and your cycling.? Mike, I am soooo sorry to hear of your situation.? Slow and steady - need to repair first, but you will get there.??

开云体育Oh my gosh Judy I am the same way about the dentist?? My major day of sedated dentistry is October 24.? I will need tons of support that day.?? OTF for me is Sunday, Wednesday, Friday (trying to fit in one more day but having trouble). ? ? ? Bobbi K. Flowers
