This may be a long shot but here goes... How hard would it be to have ACLog notify you when a new DX entity that youdon't have in your log has been spotted in the DX spotting window? All youwould need would be a simple pop up window or sound that would notify the user that there's a new DX entity that's been spotted. Maybe even give the frequency and the time? Reason I ask is because alot of times I'm setting here at my PC and have ACLog minimized and conntected to the Telnet cluster while doing other things on the computer. It would be helpful if you could somehow notify the user that there's a new DX entity thats just been spotted. Just a thought. Matt

ACLog with QRZ CDROM or Buckmaster data
3
Scott, I downloaded ACLog yesterday and am currently evaluating it. So far, it looks like just what I need. Question: If I were to purchase the QRZ CDROM or the Buckmaster CD, will ACLog "pick up" and display the grid square and county data (or any other available data) with each contact logged? Frankly, I'm not familiar with the data contained on the QRZ CD for example, but I would make the assumption that it contains the same data that is shown when performing a callsign lookup on QRZ.com. This would certainly be easier than manually entering grid square and county data that the FCC database doesn't include. TIA, Scott, N8ILG

Calculate with date
3
Hi Scott, Would it be possible for you to add the date to the choices under the calculate section. This would allow you to use only QSO's after a certain date in your calculations. The reason I ask is that I have QSL cards going back to 1964. I would like to put all of my contacts in one data base so that if an old call is mentioned while I am in QSO I could check to see if I have ever worked it. Unfortunately some of the awards you apply for only use contacts made at the same QTH so when calculating these I need to exclude all contacts before I moved to my present QTH in August of 1998. 73's Glenn WA5ZJK

CW Beta Testers NEEDED!
4
Hi Gang, I am adding a number of CW enhancements to my software including: - An option to use the parallel port to key your rig - A new timing method which will allow you to specify words per minute - The ability to adjust the spacing between words - Prosigns - Display of the characters being sent on the main form I have just finished adding the CW enhancements to ACLog this afternoon and I'm about to start on the contesting programs. While I'm at it, I would REALLY appreciate it if you would be willing to beta test the new CW code in ACLog. If you are willing, please send me an e-mail. I will send you a couple files to replace in your current ACLog 2.3 directory. You can then give the new features a whirl and let me know how they are working out. Getting feedback from a variety of users and operating systems is really helpful. Thanks in advance for your help. I really appreciate it. 73, Scott, N3FJP snkdavis@... www.n3fjp.com Serving the Amateur Radio Community with general logging and contesting software since 1997.

CW Beta Testers NEEDED! & Status
Dan, thanks for the kind words and good report. So far, all the CW reports have been very positive. I would really like some additional testers who use a parallel interface (for your printer port) to send CW. If you have a parallel interface for CW and are willing to do some beta testing with ACLog 2.3, please e-mail me directly at snkdavis@.... I am adding the enhanced CW code to the contesting programs now. If all goes well you should start seeing the upgraded contesting programs on my website in the next week or so. After that is complete I will be working on the RAM enhancement for ACLog. At this point I am planning the 2.4 enhancements to focus on the RAM and CW. If all goes well, 2.4 should be available in the next month or so. I have a lot of other enhancements for ACLog on the list and I will be starting on them as soon as the RAM and CW projects are complete and 2.4 is ready. Thanks for all your help, ideas and suggestions. I REALLY appreciate it. 73, Scott N3FJP http://www.n3fjp.com/ Serving the Amateur Radio Community with contesting and general logging software since 1997.

can't import adif file--aclog
4
I've exported data from the iaru log program and want to import it into aclog. However the aclog program attempts to import it--it opens the file ok and I don't get any errors after it is imported but no data ever goes into the log program. Thanks Jilly KF4ZEO

Taking notes
2
I like Scott's software - simple and functional, but one feature I would love to see with the contest logging software is a way of taking a note for a specific QSO. I want to track freqs, so I can send a QSL card if I need the grid. Currently, I would have to keep a paper log while using the logger. CT has a notes function that takes a note on the QSO by using <Alt>N. The notes are stored in a separate text file, but they reference to the QSO number in the contest log. So how does everyone else handle this situation? Thanks, Gregg kb3gmv

notes
Might be nice to have a notes area, maybe even have the notes import to the "comments" columm of ACLog. It would also be neat if the contest logging programs would keep a list of the freqs to import into ACLog after the contest is over. This could save loads of editing after the fact. Just my two cents. 73, Eddie KG4EFR

Contesting Software Upgrades!
3
Hi All, I wanted to let you know that I have added the following enhancements to all of the N3FJP Software contesting programs: - Option for CW keying by the parallel port (in addition to the already existing serial port) - ESC key terminates CW (ESC will still clear your fields when CW is not being transmitted) - Improved CW timing performance - CW WPM speed can be specified - CW word spacing is user modifiable - CW text being sent displays on the main form - Addition of prosigns - Program retrieves system time for UTC offset on startup - Addition of a utility to send on-the-air code practice - Items on main list can be copied to the Windows clipboard - Graph background color can be changed from black to white In addition, the programs are now uploaded as self-extracting executable files. That means that you don’t have to unzip the downloaded file (although you can if you want to). Just double click the exe file using Windows Explorer and setup will begin automatically. As always, the new versions are free to registered users. I will probably wait to send this announcement to the larger "announcements only" list until Amateur Contact Log is ready, but I wanted to give you a heads-up and the opportunity for testing and feedback before we get into the fall contesting season. Please download the new versions, give them a whirl and let me know what you think. In addition to the performance upgrades, all of the above enhancements will also be included in ACLog 2.4 when it is ready. As always, thanks for your great suggestions, kind thoughts and spreading the word about my software. I really appreciate it. 73, Scott N3FJP http://www.n3fjp.com/ Serving the Amateur Radio Community with contesting and general logging software since 1997.

Help with VHFLOG to ACLOG
3
I downloaded vhflog and aclog to give a test run and seem to have a problem. I set up a test contest with a few dx contacts in vhflog then used the adif export function to import the log file into aclog. All went ok but some info for the dx contacts is not showing in the fields. ie. country, continent, freq, and prefix info. Is this due to the contest pgm only looking at calls and grids or am I missing something in aclog? The reason I ask is I like the clean layout of Scotts programs and do mostly vhf contests but want to use aclog to keep track of my 6 meter dxcc info. If I do a calculate dxcc in aclog it is not showing the dx worked from the imported vhflog file. Thanks for the help in advance . Jim N2NRD.

Help!
I need help with my N3FJP Sweepstakes program. I have not used the software before. I recently received the CD, got my password, and loaded it. It worked fine. However, for some reason, I recently misplaced the shortcut on my desktop and thought I had deleted the software, so I tried to REload it! That's when the trouble started. I found that I could open the software and begin playing with it, until I tried to enter a call worked, and then the CHECK in the second window. I would immediately get "INVALID SECTION" in the large window below that and nothing else would function. I have tried several times to remove the software and reload it, but must be doing something wrong. Is there an instruction sheet for the CD? Has anyone else encountered this problem? Thanks! 73, Gary - W1ECH

CW Parallel Port Schematics
6
Hi All, Huel, K4DRQ was kind enough to send along some links he found to build a parallel interface for CW keying: http://users.pandora.be/on5zo/cw_int.htm http://www.qsl.net/ae0q/contest/opto_key.htm Several words of caution. The code for the parallel port CW keying enhancement was designed for and tested by using the W1GEE parallel interface (available on my website for anyone who doesn't want to build their own). The W1GEE interface uses pin 17 to send CW and pin 1 for ground. I don't know if the above schematics will need any modification to work properly or not. If you feel adventerous and give either/both of the above schematics a try, please let me know how they work out. I'm looking forward to your comments and feedback. 73, Scott N3FJP http://www.n3fjp.com/ Serving the Amateur Radio Community with contesting and general logging software since 1997.

Can't get ACLog to read freq & mode
6
Greetings to the group. I'm a long-time user of ACLog who has just purchased the cable to connect my rig so I can read the frequency and mode directly into the log. I've tried everything I can think of and so far am unsuccessful; I could sure use some suggestions. The setup: PC is an older model IBM ThinkPad laptop Pentium II running Windows XP Professional. Rig is Icom IC706MarkIIG. I have the cable from W1GEE and it is connected to the serial port of the PC and the remote jack on the back of the 706. In the Interface Setup window of ACLog, I have set to Comm Port 1, 19.2 baud (the rig is also set to 19.2), connection power to DTR (I've also tried RTS). I've set the string to read frequency to "FE FE 58 E0 03 FD" and the string to read the mode to "FE FE 58 E0 04 FD" (values come from the 706's manual). Having no idea what the other values should be, I've tried them all, I think. The response is always "No Response" in the Frequency window, either "No Response" or nothing at all in the Mode window, and a running string of garbage, which changes as I change the tuning dial on the rig, in the "Unprocessed data returned" window. Does any other Icom owner have any hints for me? Thanks, Chuck, K9PLX

Success reading freq and mode with Icom
Problem solved -- already! A HUGE thanks to David Whaley, NT9E, who replied with the suggestion that the problem probably was with the Comm port settings more than with the settings within ACLog itself. Sure enough... I went to Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager > Ports > COM1 > Port Settings and set it for 19200 BPS, Data bits = 8, Parity = None, Stop bits = 1, and Flow control = None. Then I went to the ACLog Rig Interface Setup window, set it for Comm Port 1, 19.2 K, Parity = None, Data bits = 8, Stop bits = 1, Connection power = DTR, and Polling rate = 100 ms (any speed works, I think). In the string to read frequency and string to read mode I made sure that the 3rd character was "58", which is the code for the 706MKIIG (the manual for the radio shows the code), and KAZOWIE! Everything worked! Thanks again, David. 73, Chuck K9PLX

When are going to be repair "problem" with the QSO record #: this field its a alphanumeric, instead of numeric or incremental field; Also: Why not get print ACLOG like traditional hand logbook? 73 Radhames, hi3ab _________________________________________________________________ Charla con tus amigos en lnea mediante MSN Messenger: http://messenger.yupimsn.com/

UTC and Daylight Savings
5
Hi Scott, I just noticed that when Daylight savings occurs, the ACLog program does not adjust for that. Is this expected behavior? I know that Windows takes care of it automatically, however, ACLog still has 5 in it from when I set it up. I found this out when I got a QSL card back saying I was an hour off... Anyways.. so is the remedy to remember to change the UTC offset when the clocks change over? Thanks! Jason Hissong N8XE http://www.qsl.net/n8xe

few questions
2
Hello: A few questions: a) Ver. 2.4: Why not convert QSO RECORD # in a true field instead of a counter? b) Are out your plans sometimes add code, for allow user select the individual fields "that they would like to print" instead to user any spreadsheet; Thank You. 73 Radhames, hi3ab >From: SNKDavis@... >Reply-To: N3FJP_Software_Users@... >To: N3FJP_Software_Users@... >Subject: Re: [N3FJP_Software_Users] qso # field/print >Date: Fri, 01 Aug 2003 07:03:57 -0400 > >Hi Radhames, > >Thanks for your e-mail. > >The code for numerically sorting the QSO# field when clicking on the column header is already completed for version 2.4. > >With 31 fields, printing a single line QSO entry would not be possible on 8 1/2" by 11" paper (unless the font was incredibly small). CW interface capabilities
8
I am very interested in using the CW interface, but before either building the circuit or buying the cable, I wanted to make sure the software did what I hope. Perhaps I missed the full description, but in the help screens for CW setup, I only see mention of using F-x keys to send preset strings. I figure there has to be some way to send arbitrary text once in the middle of a QSO, but I'm not 100% sure and would want to be able to do that. Does this feature exist, and how does one use it? Thanks, Jim (kb9dna)
