Contesting Software Upgrades!
Hi All,
I wanted to let you know that I have added the following enhancements to all of the N3FJP Software contesting programs: - Option for CW keying by the parallel port (in addition to the already existing serial port) - ESC key terminates CW (ESC will still clear your fields when CW is not being transmitted) - Improved CW timing performance - CW WPM speed can be specified - CW word spacing is user modifiable - CW text being sent displays on the main form - Addition of prosigns - Program retrieves system time for UTC offset on startup - Addition of a utility to send on-the-air code practice - Items on main list can be copied to the Windows clipboard - Graph background color can be changed from black to white In addition, the programs are now uploaded as self-extracting executable files. That means that you don’t have to unzip the downloaded file (although you can if you want to). Just double click the exe file using Windows Explorer and setup will begin automatically. As always, the new versions are free to registered users. I will probably wait to send this announcement to the larger "announcements only" list until Amateur Contact Log is ready, but I wanted to give you a heads-up and the opportunity for testing and feedback before we get into the fall contesting season. Please download the new versions, give them a whirl and let me know what you think. In addition to the performance upgrades, all of the above enhancements will also be included in ACLog 2.4 when it is ready. As always, thanks for your great suggestions, kind thoughts and spreading the word about my software. I really appreciate it. 73, Scott N3FJP Serving the Amateur Radio Community with contesting and general logging software since 1997. |

Thanks for your e-mail. ?I checked the ADIF site but couldn't find an ADIF tag for the Fists #. ?Does anyone know of an established ADIF tag for the Fists field? 73, Scott N3FJP Serving the Amateur Radio Community with general logging and contesting software since 1997. Might be nice to have a notes area, maybe even have the notes
import to the "comments" columm of ACLog. It would also be neat if the contest logging programs would keep a list of the freqs to import into ACLog after the contest is over. This could save loads of editing after the fact. Just my two cents. 73, Eddie KG4EFR |
Taking notes
I like Scott's software - simple and functional, but one feature I
would love to see with the contest logging software is a way of taking a note for a specific QSO. I want to track freqs, so I can send a QSL card if I need the grid. Currently, I would have to keep a paper log while using the logger. CT has a notes function that takes a note on the QSO by using <Alt>N. The notes are stored in a separate text file, but they reference to the QSO number in the contest log. So how does everyone else handle this situation? Thanks, Gregg kb3gmv |

Thanks for your suggestion.? I've had a couple of requests for notes, but not too many.? If there is enough interest in that feature it is certainly something I can add.? Any comments from the group are welcome and appreciated. Thanks for your kind words on the software.? I really appreciate it. 73, Scott, N3FJP snkdavis@... Re: CW Beta Testers NEEDED! & Status
Dan, thanks for the kind words and good report. So far, all the CW reports have been very positive. I would really like some additional testers who use a parallel interface (for your printer port) to send CW. If you have a parallel interface for CW and are willing to do some beta testing with ACLog 2.3, please e-mail me directly at snkdavis@....
I am adding the enhanced CW code to the contesting programs now. If all goes well you should start seeing the upgraded contesting programs on my website in the next week or so. After that is complete I will be working on the RAM enhancement for ACLog. At this point I am planning the 2.4 enhancements to focus on the RAM and CW. If all goes well, 2.4 should be available in the next month or so. I have a lot of other enhancements for ACLog on the list and I will be starting on them as soon as the RAM and CW projects are complete and 2.4 is ready. Thanks for all your help, ideas and suggestions. I REALLY appreciate it. 73, Scott N3FJP Serving the Amateur Radio Community with contesting and general logging software since 1997. 开云体育Sure, all I do is CW about 99% of my
operation.
And QRP 100% of that...
And would like to try it...
Also Paul and Dick might like to
also.
They used laptops and the connection to the
QRP
rigs, as you saw in some of the
pictures.
It is your choice.?
Also, I am ready for the update on the
logging
with the RAM capability.? I am getting
slower and
slower in logging now that I have added
another
1,000 entries...
It takes forever to get an entry in
now.? Seems like it
only takes a long search with the US and
Canadian
entries though.? So I figure it must be
searching the
database for the old entry and then the
database for
the info for the name and location
too.....
What do you think?

The most common problem occurs when an export is done in one format and then the import is done in another.? Make sure that you export the file in ADIF format from the IARU program.? Then from ACLog click File, Import - ADIF format and select the file that you exported.? The file you want to import is IARU.adi. feature request
This may be a long shot but here goes...
How hard would it be to have ACLog notify you when a new DX entity that youdon't have in your log has been spotted in the DX spotting window? All youwould need would be a simple pop up window or sound that would notify the user that there's a new DX entity that's been spotted. Maybe even give the frequency and the time? Reason I ask is because alot of times I'm setting here at my PC and have ACLog minimized and conntected to the Telnet cluster while doing other things on the computer. It would be helpful if you could somehow notify the user that there's a new DX entity thats just been spotted. Just a thought. Matt |
ACLog with QRZ CDROM or Buckmaster data
Scott,
I downloaded ACLog yesterday and am currently evaluating it. So far, it looks like just what I need. Question: If I were to purchase the QRZ CDROM or the Buckmaster CD, will ACLog "pick up" and display the grid square and county data (or any other available data) with each contact logged? Frankly, I'm not familiar with the data contained on the QRZ CD for example, but I would make the assumption that it contains the same data that is shown when performing a callsign lookup on QRZ.com. This would certainly be easier than manually entering grid square and county data that the FCC database doesn't include. TIA, Scott, N8ILG |

Thanks for your suggestion. Yes, alerting to needed spots is definitely a possibility, especially now that I am modifying ACLog so that all the contacts are in RAM.? I am also indexing lists such as Countries, States, etc., so the lookups will be MUCH faster. Here is my situation, and I'm really interested in everyone's feedback.? I have a long list of enhancements for ACLog.? Many of them won't take much time, only a day or so individually, but lumped together it will be some time before they are all ready.? I can either wrap up version 2.4 with ONLY the enhancement of faster lookups and indication of "New" for each field that is new, and have that ready to go shortly.? The other option is to incorporate more of the enhancement list into 2.4, but it will be a while before it is ready.? I'm excited about the faster performance and I'm leaning towards making that available as soon as I can.? So, if some of the feature requests don't make 2.4 hang in there.? There are lots more on the way and I'm getting more great suggestions all the time. 73, Scott, N3FJP snkdavis@...
