Re: Help with VHFLOG to ACLOG

Hi Jim,

Thanks for trying out the software. I am planning to add a feature in a future version of ACLog that will review records logged/imported and add any missing data that can be determined from the call such as country, prefix, etc. I'm not sure if that will make version 2.4 or 2.5 of ACLog but it is definitely on the top of the enhancements list.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi All,

I wanted to let you know that I have added the following enhancements to
all of the N3FJP Software contesting programs:

- Option for CW keying by the parallel port (in addition to the already
existing serial port)
- ESC key terminates CW (ESC will still clear your fields when CW is not
being transmitted)
- Improved CW timing performance
- CW WPM speed can be specified
- CW word spacing is user modifiable
- CW text being sent displays on the main form
- Addition of prosigns
- Program retrieves system time for UTC offset on startup
- Addition of a utility to send on-the-air code practice
- Items on main list can be copied to the Windows clipboard
- Graph background color can be changed from black to white

In addition, the programs are now uploaded as self-extracting executable
files. That means that you don’t have to unzip the downloaded file
(although you can if you want to). Just double click the exe file using
Windows Explorer and setup will begin automatically. As always, the new
versions are free to registered users.

I will probably wait to send this announcement to the larger
"announcements only" list until Amateur Contact Log is ready, but I wanted
to give you a heads-up and the opportunity for testing and feedback before
we get into the fall contesting season. Please download the new versions,
give them a whirl and let me know what you think. In addition to the
performance upgrades, all of the above enhancements will also be included in
ACLog 2.4 when it is ready.

As always, thanks for your great suggestions, kind thoughts and spreading
the word about my software. I really appreciate it.

Hi Dee,

Thanks for your e-mail.? I have to confess that hardware is not my strength so I? used a parallel interface provided by W1GEE.? I'm sure that there are some schematics out on the web somewhere.? I wish I had the time to investigate further.? My other schematics came from a good ham friend of mine.

I'm sorry I can't be of more assistance right now, Dee.? I hope you continue to enjoy using the software.

Might be nice to have a notes area, maybe even have the notes
import to the "comments" columm of ACLog. It would also be neat
if the contest logging programs would keep a list of the
freqs to import into ACLog after the contest is over. This
could save loads of editing after the fact.

Just my two cents.

Taking notes

I like Scott's software - simple and functional, but one feature I
would love to see with the contest logging software is a way of
taking a note for a specific QSO. I want to track freqs, so I can
send a QSL card if I need the grid. Currently, I would have to keep
a paper log while using the logger.

CT has a notes function that takes a note on the QSO by using
<Alt>N. The notes are stored in a separate text file, but they
reference to the QSO number in the contest log.

So how does everyone else handle this situation?

Thanks,
Gregg

Hi Gregg,

Thanks for your suggestion.? I've had a couple of requests for notes, but not too many.? If there is enough interest in that feature it is certainly something I can add.? Any comments from the group are welcome and appreciated.

Re: CW Beta Testers NEEDED! & Status

Dan, thanks for the kind words and good report. So far, all the CW reports have been very positive. I would really like some additional testers who use a parallel interface (for your printer port) to send CW. If you have a parallel interface for CW and are willing to do some beta testing with ACLog 2.3, please e-mail me directly at snkdavis@....

I am adding the enhanced CW code to the contesting programs now. If all goes well you should start seeing the upgraded contesting programs on my website in the next week or so.

After that is complete I will be working on the RAM enhancement for ACLog. At this point I am planning the 2.4 enhancements to focus on the RAM and CW. If all goes well, 2.4 should be available in the next month or so. I have a lot of other enhancements for ACLog on the list and I will be starting on them as soon as the RAM and CW projects are complete and 2.4 is ready.

Thanks for all your help, ideas and suggestions. I REALLY appreciate it.

Sure, all I do is CW about 99% of my operation.
And QRP 100% of that...
And would like to try it...
Also Paul and Dick might like to also.
They used laptops and the connection to the QRP
rigs, as you saw in some of the pictures.
It is your choice.?
Also, I am ready for the update on the logging
with the RAM capability.? I am getting slower and
slower in logging now that I have added another
1,000 entries...
It takes forever to get an entry in now.? Seems like it
only takes a long search with the US and Canadian
entries though.? So I figure it must be searching the
database for the old entry and then the database for
the info for the name and location too.....
What do you think?

The reason I ask is that I have QSL cards going back to 1964. I
would like to put all of my contacts in one data base so that if an
old call is mentioned while I am in QSO I could check to see if I
have ever worked it.
Unfortunately some of the awards you apply for only use contacts made

contacts before I moved to my present QTH in August of 1998.
