Re: Missing QSOs

Fred:
?
Jim is correct.?? Go into the top banner menu of ACLog, and choose FILE -> SHOW FILE LOCATIONS.?? This will open a dialog box showing the location of logs and file, and also the path to the current log that is being used (which may not be the one you desire).? Notice that there is a backup directory there, with multiple copies of your log file.? On most windows systems, all of this will be under path? C:\Users\<your name>\Documents\Affirmatech\N3FJP Software\???????? unless you, or something else, moved it.
?
Another point for possible debug:??? Did the Windows update turn on OneDrive?? Or did it get enabled recently???? A year ago on my computer, one drive turned on and suddenly
all the files in my DOCUMENTS folder were vanishing and getting moved to the OneDrive cloud online.?? It took a little work to reverse this, restore my files, turn off and remove
OneDrive, and curse at MickeySoft for the 449723065843th? time!??

And, as Scott already pointed out, even if you do not perform backups on your computer, and even if the above steps do not find where your actual log file is, you can simply download from LOTW to restore those QSOs.
?
I can assure you that this is not a flaw in ACLog;? Something or someone has changes where your main log file is at, or else someone accidentally messed with menu FILE -> NEW or else FILE -> OPEN, but that is less likely.? Either way, checking the FILE -> SHOW FILE LOCATIONS,?? then checking the contents of C:\Users\<your name>\Documents\Affirmatech\N3FJP Software\ ? (or whatever show file locations says), and then checking if OneDrive emptied your Documents folder are some of the first simple diagnostic steps.
?
Let us know what you find.

I agree in principle. But this is Windows. I am an award chaser and have over 26,000 QSLs in ACL dating back to 1999. I think the first thing I would do is go into File > Show File Locations and see if the path to your log file has changed. Newer versions of Windows can do strange things (I'm looking at YOU, Onedrive). You could also have Windows to a brute force search for *.mdb files on your hard drive. It may also turn up data files from other programs but it should be obvious which ones are your log. The largest file with the most recent date should be the one you are looking for.

Agreed.? But my point is that if it were a flaw in Scott’s program, there would be several reports or more by now.? What we are seeing here is a single instance of a problem.? Simple logic says this is not an N3FJP program problem, it is a Fred’s computer alone problem.

It doesn’t help you fix the problem.? But at least it will keep you from wrongly fixing the blame.? Or are you insisting that Scott’s program did this to your computer alone out of the thousands using AC-Log?

To err is human.? To really foul it up takes a computer.

Hi Fred,

?

Thanks for your follow up.? I'm sorry that you are still having trouble.? Losing log data on an update is obviously not typical.? Your log data is not touched during an update, so something else is at play.

?

There isn't anything difficult in any of the recovery methods I referenced in my previous reply, so choose the one easiest for you, provided it has the most current data.??

?

If your LoTW uploads are current, doing an All Since download from AC Log's LoTW form dated to 1/1/2024 is probably the easiest.? It may take a while to complete depending on the number of records and how busy the LoTW server is, but just let the program run while you are doing something else and it will finish.

Re: Missing QSOs

Fred W3ICM

Thank you Mike.

I upload daily to ClubLog and LoTW, sometimes several times during the day, depending on the number of QSOs,?and when I work a DXpedition where I want to see an immediate?match on ClubLog, e.g., VU4AX.

But ACL is my QSO record. ?I am into the DX Marathon Challenge, an annual competition so I need accurate data.?The ACL Awards feature provides?the annual data on the number of countries and zones in each band. Very helpful. ?But it’s useless if many QSOs are missing.

The DX Marathon Challenge (this is not the ARRL Challenge)?requires that I upload my 2025 QSOs to their website at the end of the year. ?Thus it’s critical that I have all of my 2025?data.

The ACL record also helps me to avoid duplicating past QSOs.

I didn’t know that I had missing QSO data until I was going to QSO CP6UA on 40 meters. I wanted to check past QSOs because I didn’t want to waste my time with another QSO. ?So I entered the call into the call slot that results in a record of the past QSOs. ?I knew that I had a
?QSO with him on 10 meters earlier this year. The 10 meter QSO did not show up, leading me to investigate further, discovering that all of my?2025 QSOs disappeared. ?AND manyM?QSOs from 2024 are gone.?

QSOs should NEVER disappear from a software update.

Tony,

Some spotting networks are now requiring you to be a registered user or even have a password to log in to make spots. Maybe that had something to do with it. The two nodes I use now require it and one even requires a login password.

Re: Missing QSOs

Hi Fred,

Thanks for your e-mail.? I'm sorry that you ran into trouble.? The most likely cause is that when your PC did the update, it reverted to a previous restore point prior to 2025.? You can restore from backup or your LoTW uploads as detailed here:

Enjoy!

Hello,

I use the ACL, and I see that all of my 2025 QSOs, except for those today, have disappeared.? ?

I don't recall ,,,but there may have been a reminder box message to update which I did, but I would expect that all QSOs would be retained.

Would appreciate? help or advice.

Re: WI QSO Party

Echoing other's comments ..... I participated in the Wisconsin QSO Party (in-state).
?
I worked one mobile rover 5 times during the day.? Four of those were on the same Band.? He was roving through various Counties and apparently could hear me pretty well.
?
The software (using Super Check Partial) will complain and warn you when entering a previously worked Call.?
But once the new County was added, it was happy.

Re: WI QSO Party

Thanks for the response. I will attribute the error to the interuption in connection to the 7300 that occured.? I only operated phone, but noted after the fact that some entries were noted as PHN while others were SSB. Again maybe due to the interuption.
