Re: Bennington Co On The Map For VTQP
Very Cool Nathan! It sounds like you scored well by devoting time to it and coming up with a good strategy. It's always fun to better your previous year's score! I started out planning to operate QRP CW only, but quickly bailed on that plan as competition for bandspace with the guys doing the FOC CW contest was pretty fierce. So I changed to 100 watts and made my challenge to beat my last year's score. It seems the last several years I always come in at 5th place- this year I hoped to achieve 4th. At the top is some real tough competition that I will never catch, such as my friend Ron, KK1L who is a very skilled contest monster and always quadruples my score. (Chittenden Co) In the end, judging by reported scores on the 3830 score page, I should alas, be in 5th spot again! Lol. It is strange how close our SSB and Digi numbers are. My results: CW- 314 QSOs - 62 multipliers Digi- 125 QSOs- 25 multipliers SSB- 79 QSOs- 35 multipliers Always a fun contest. Don't forget the New England QSO Party in May- Bennington Co is rare on that as well. Randy On Wed, Feb 12, 2025 at 10:06?PM Nathan Mazanec via <nathan.mazanec=[email protected]> wrote:

VOACAP Propagation Predictions
Greetings all,

I just finished the writeup for the presentation that I will be giving at our club meeting on the 26th. I thought I might give you a "sneak preview" here on the groups page in hopes you may review and provide any comments/ suggestions if you wish- that is what the group is for! Just click the reply button below to respond to everybody (Only 9 so far) in the group.
?
I will have some handouts of this text at the meeting, but viewing on your computer will make my screenshots more clear- plus you can expand them to see better. After the meeting I will email this to everyone on the newsletter list.?

HF Digital ARES/RACES Net
I had mentioned this on the ARES net, but as a reminder this weekly net and YouTube session will begin tonight. I encourage anyone who is interested to join in.
The original invitation follows:
?
Hello;
?
This is an invitation for Vermont and regional amateurs to get some weekly practice setting up and using "FLDigi" to send and receive text and files over the radio.
Text and standard formatted messages are useful for emergency communications, plus, the ability to use FLDigi opens up scores of interesting digital modes.
?
The net will occur weekly at?7pm Eastern, Wednesday evenings on 80m 3.570Mhz using THOR22.
?
Simultaneously, there will be a Zoom meeting:??
Meeting ID?880 8990 7163
Passcode
spCA7P
?
Our focus?initially will be to establish keyboard to keyboard communications, using the basic FLDigi application.
We will use the Zoom meeting to help folks get their set-ups working.
?
The net will use 3.570 Mhz and THOR22 to start with, because it is part of our?"Communications Down Scenario & Self-Activation"?procedure, see page 8 of the?Vermont RACES-ARES Comms Plan.??For a current copy of the plan, it can be found on our??webpage "Files" section:?
?
Over time, as we learn our way through this, we will explore other components of the FLDigi software suite, such as FLmsg, as well as other modes available in FLDigi.
We can also explore other software packages as well, such as "AndFlmsg", for Android/smartphone depending on participant interest.
?
Please feel free to contact me if you have any comments or questions regarding this net.
?
Thanks;
- John Colt

Rainy Saturday Tape Measure Foxhunt Yagi
I was getting very tired of my beat up, kinked tape measure when an article I had read a long time ago came to mind:
?
I had the tape measure, a piece of 3/4" PVC pipe, hose clamps, coax, solid wire- all I needed was the PVC Tee and Cross Unions. A trip to Home Depot and 2 1/2 hours and the antenna was born.?
?
Please note in the picks that the director element is indeed shorter than the driven and reflector elements- the camera angle makes it look longer!
?
I haven't put it on an analyzer yet but have confidence that it will be close. I also ordered a $10 rf attenuator kit from 3rd Planet Solar to build as a mounted addition to the antenna.
