Re: Too simple P48
This is a PiP mike but pretending to be a P48V with its XLR. It needs PiP with probably 5V (10V max) The reviewer tried it on P48V, and would have trashed the 2sk596. His preamp, expecting a

Re: Electrets going bad?
Casey, you don't say if these are in Simple P48basic circuits. If they are, check that you don't have more than 10V across the capsules when connected & running. The FET in Primos have changed ...

Re: P12 & P24 Phantom power
Thanks for your suggestions Tom & Jules. I suppose I could carry a 2kW Honda generator to power my prototype mains supa low noise P48 supply which I made at Calrec (weighs more than a MOTU Traveler)

Re: P12 & P24 Phantom power
Hi, Tascam DR-100 MKIII can be set to +24V, excellent recorder :)

Electrets going bad?
I have a 4-capsule blumlein array made from Primo EM184's -- I recently realized one of the capsules went bad and had to replace two of them (to match each other). I'm wondering if it was user error

Too SimpleP48
received a sample CHinese mike today: EMB EMC900BK, it has a ~16mm capsule, no R's no C's, just a 2SK596 rank-C !!? XLR P3 is not used, 2 goes to Drain, capsule-center goes to 2SK596 gate, capsule

Re: P12 & P24 Phantom power
good to know, but which is the effect of reduced powering on sound quality ? I suppose it is reduced the maximum accepted SPL (by 12 dB?), that is not a problem for nature recordists. I'm right

Re: P12 & P24 Phantom power
Absolutely you can use an external phantom power source and turn off the internal one. Jules [micbuilders] <micbuilders@...> wrote: -- Best Regards, Jules Ryckebusch 214 399

Can you use an external P12 source and turn P48 off on the recorder? Tom

P12 & P24 Phantom power
If a condensor mike is optimised for a lower Phantom Power supply than the usual 48V, it can result in much less power consumption. This is particularly useful with Portable Nature Recording where

Re: EM172 matched pairs
Nick Roast from MicBooster, here. We match the EM172's by sensitivity at 1kHz. We measure a batch of 288 and then pair them. When we solder the capsules we heatsink them heavily as you have now

Yes!, thank you Ricardo. When I added Vdc labels on the first three SPL History graphs I inverted the values.... Anyway I tested also the modded capsule and the Simple48RCA. I'm going to update the

Re: SimpleP48 PUI 5024L HD
Stefano, is there also an error in the Voltage markings on your last 'SPL Vs. Time' curves? V0, V1 & V2 show low Vdc at 94dB spl while the tabulated Vdc is high at 94dB spl (as expected). V3,

EM172 matched pairs
So I've just fried one of a matched pair of EM172s I bought from Micbooster. I've learnt my lesson and made a heatsink for future soldering! I'm thinking of exploring PUI 5024s next: people

Re: Starting out with EM172
I thought I'd give an update here as I've made good progress. Thanks to the advice in the thread I've been comfortably using long cable runs, entirely satisfactorily, with the Simple P48 circuit.
