Re: Zoom capsule hacking
For your project I'm not sure going the Zoom way is the easiest. You find a lot of easier builts in this group, and swapping can be done based on standard XLR connectors (XLR3 or 5). This makes up for

Zoom capsule hacking
Newbie here, so sorry if I missed previous discussion on this topic. (Yes, it tried searching but didn¡¯t find anything¡) I am working on a project to build a hand-held stereo sample

Re: 2nd order ambisonic
They mostly are. Check out several of the commercial ones for ideas. Interestingly, 8 capsules is not quite 2nd order, in theory you need 9. Whatever geometry you end up with. The Sparta Arrary2SH

The Schoeps cmc-6xt can be configured to record subsonic https://schoeps.de/en/products/colette/microphone-amplifiers/cmc-6xt.html just have to be careful with them in the rain
Re: 2nd order ambisonic
Thank you, what is the geometric position of the 8 capsules ? are they still based on a tetrahedron ?

Re: SimpleP48 figure 8
Hi Casey, Yes that's exactly what I did. I'm sure someone must have done it but couldn't find a reference anywhere. It's a very pleasing use of phantom power symmetry. I will match front facing

Re: SimpleP48 figure 8
I assume this is what you did, but in case it's useful here's the fig8 I've been using <http://caseyconnor.org/pub/audio/electret8/SP48_fig8.png>. As others have said on this board, it's important

Re: SimpleP48 figure 8
I should add, as my last post was a bit confusing, that the capsules are wired with capsule 1+? to pin 2 and capsule 2+? to pin 3,? which gives the right bias. Richard

SimpleP48 figure 8
Hi, I've been a long -time lurker. I thought I would post up something I'm working on. I've been interested in getting a small, inexpensive Blumlein pair together for recording piano and thought I

Re: 2nd order ambisonic
You could easily extend this to 8 capsules You would need to redo the design for the capsule mounts I would probably go to 16mm capsules if I were to do that to keep them closer. Best

Re: 2nd order ambisonic
Jules devised the AmbiAlice for his Instructable so he can advise, but I suppose since his design uses the "Simple P48" circuit, I suppose you could use 8 conductor tube microphone cable, maybe? You

Re: Bamboo housing for nature recordings
Thanks, Jules! Before ordering, I searched the Micbuilder Group on this topic and found a lot of useful information on capsule soldering. Many thanks!

That is good solder. I use the same except water based flux. -- Best Regards, Jules Ryckebusch 214 399 0931 Linkedin <https://www.linkedin.com/in/jules-ryckebusch/>

Re: Bamboo housing for nature recordings
Many thanks for your advice! For soldering I used a No-Clean Flux Core Solder, 63/37 with a melting point/range of 184 C (363 F). Do you think this is OK or would it be better to use a different

Re: Bamboo housing for nature recordings
yeah... with most electret capsules, you really have to avoid any kind of physical stress on those tiny solder-pads. It doesn't take much force at all to tear the metal pads off. For that thickness of
